Of course I would.

50 and up shorts.

Putt from 30 yards? Never. I mean, why? I guess if your wedge game is that bad, do what you have to. That just seems crazy to me. I won't even putt from the fringe in morning rounds due to condensation slowing the ball down.

50% - 50 degree 40% - 56 degree 10% - 60 degree Up until mid way through the middle of last season, I used the 56 for almost everything except for instances when I needed a lot of loft (which I would use the 60 for). When I dropped my matching set gap wedge for a traditional style wedge, I started experimenting with it more around the greens. Now, it's a pretty even mix between the 50 and 56, with a slight nod to the 50. Once I got used to the angle and rollout, I really started to prefer it in situations where I had a decent amount of green to work with.

Walking by myself, on a relatively hilly course, probably under 3 hours. I almost always drop random balls, work on pitching, play two balls, etc. So, I'm not sure what the actual time would be. It's usually 3.5 hours including extra shots and holes. I don't know how the hell people take 5 hours in cart. I remember walking 18 last Summer on a vacation day. The course was one of the tougher courses to walk, and I caught up to a group on the 18th hole that was teeing off on #10, while I was on #1. So, I walked the entire course in the time they took to ride 9.

Scrambles can be fun, but you would be insane to go out behind one. Lots of people that never play golf end up in them. As long as there is one decent person in the group, it's okay. I won longest drive twice, which yielded $100 once. So, that was nice. Lol @ semi-pro teams. I've never played in a scramble without those guys winning. I should put my own together sometime (I'll be the coach!).

Anyone else have a choppy feed, like it's buffering? Our internet is 20 mbps download (just tested), which is way more than enough to stream this. edit: They're using flash player for some absurd reason. So, that's probably contributing to it.

Are the controls still shit? Still playing 2012 due to the awful putting style change in 2013's version.

I usually think, "Hey, there's my ball", because I play yellow balls often. I started playing them in my evening rounds after work, because I was loosing balls due to the sun setting and blinding me. Made a huge difference in that regards. Then, I started playing them if it was foggy in the morning, and sometime just because I felt like it. Overall, I do prefer white balls, but there's no denying that yellow are much easier to spot when visibility is an issue.

How to Quickly get your game back after the winter?
anthony replied to MattM's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
Last year, I birdied the first hole, on the first day out. Then proceeded to shank it off the tee on the next hole. lol. During the winter months I hit pitch shots with plastic balls all the time inside my house. Ceilings are too low to take full swings, or I would set something up inside. Aside from playing, I don't really know what you could do. I really like the idea of recording your swing before the end of the previous season. Or, maybe, writing some notes about swing thoughts and setup cues to review at the beginning of the next season. -
- 5 warm up sets of squats between 135-175. I do these on Wednesday strictly for warmups, so I don't count reps - Deadlift warmup: 225 1x2, 275 1x1 - Deadlifts: 305 2x2, 305 1x1, 275 1x3 - Kneeling Landmines: 45 1x7, 1x6, 1x5 - Shrugs: 155 2x8 - Calf Raises: 155 2x10 - Weighted chin ups (+10lbs.): 1x10 - Chin ups 1x8, supersetted with curls: 65x?x1 Been stuck on 305 deadlifts for a few weeks, and probably will be until I get to my goal weight and am able to eat a calorie surplus. Was doing 2 sets x 3 reps up until then, but have to give it all to get two up. Might try to get at least one @ 310 next week.

A couple guys I play with use the covers, and they seem to do a pretty good job. I considered them, but really can't be bothered. Hell, I even took the cover off my putter because it was annoying. That said, I wipe down my club after every shot. Always keep one side of the towel damp for wiping it off. Keeps them clean, and I don't have to worry about cleaning them after a round.

To 2/3 iron or not....that is the question.
anthony replied to Holdaway03's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Agree totally. There are a few options available out there currently. Mizuno MP-H4/H5, Titleist 712U, and the Callaway X Utility iron. I've actually just got a complete set of H4's, because I liked the 3 iron I've been playing so much. I think there is definitely a growing market for the hybrid iron, that feels like an actual iron. I could never get on with hybrids, but absolutely loved the H4 3 iron from day one. Can't recommend them enough. -
Current goal is to get to 160 lbs (currently at 175, down from 195). Then, do a very gradual bulk up (200 or 300 calories over maintenance per day) to whatever I feel is good. - 4 warm up sets of squats, ramping up to 225 - Squats 235 3x5 - Bench Press 160 3x5, one drop set of 135 1x7 - Pendlay Rows 160 3x5 - Close Grip Bench - 125 2x8 - Tricep extensions - 65 2x8 - As many chin-ups as possible (think I got to 15)

Lots of reps @ light weight = cardio, and does jack for any "core strength". Plus, "toning" is some silly word made up by fitness people trying to sell you a rubber band or something. If you want to get stronger, the best way is a routine based around compound exercises at relatively low rep schemes like 5x3 or 5x5, 3 times a week. Compound exercises would be: Squat, deadlift, bench press, barbell row, and overhead presses (if your shoulders allow. Landmines are a great substitute). Plus body weight exercises like chin-ups and push ups. That's it. Start as light as you want, and increase some weight each session, or each week. You will completely, and totally amaze yourself how much stronger you will become. I've lifted weights for a few years now, and can throw weight through the roof that I used to struggle with. Also, it's ONLY benefited my golf game. Stronger, more flexible, more stamina, and other things I can't think of, I'm sure.

Looks like more than 20 lbs to me. Somewhere closer to 30 from the looks it. Not sure how tall he is though, which is a factor. Plus, everyone stores extra weight a bit differently. Whatever the case, good on him! You guys suggesting him dropping that gut is bad, must be kidding. Dude needs to get on some sort of weight training program though, pronto. I don't see any sort of muscle tone on him. Even a moderate, 3 days @ 45 min, weight training program will increase his strength buy a lot.

I'm within a month (hopefully!) of being able to play again, so I can safely talk about golf again without sobbing. Like others have mentioned, it's all personal preference, and even the course you may be playing. Personally, I'd rather have a higher lofted option closer to the greens, than a club to fill a gap 220+. I'm not shooting darts at 225, but every inch counts when I have 30 feet to the pin, and no green to work with.

Depends on the day. In the afternoon after work, I'll make practice swings with two irons on the tee box, a couple practice driver swings, and off I go. On Saturday mornings with the boys, I'll play down and back #9 with a 50 degree wedge (No one is on it since we're first or second out), hit some pitches, putt for a little, and drive a shag ball into the woods.
-
Sorry to hear man. Same sort of thing happened to me a few years ago. The course was less than 2 miles from house, and was just closed one day. Always thought someone would buy it and re-open, but it's just overgrown now.

Most courses around here have Blue, White, Gold (sometimes), and Red. Once in a blue moon, if I'm up to it and the course is relatively empty, I'll play the blues. 98% of the time, I'm playing the whites. If I ever dip down under 10 or so, I'll consider moving back a set. To take this a little bit OT, I see guys way worse than me playing the blues all the time. Guys who I would be surprised if they are shooting under 90 (or 100 even). In fact, when I played Monday after work there were two guys in front of me hitting short, off line drives, followed by shitty second shots, from the blue's! I can never tell if these guys are doing it for kicks, or if they legitimately think they have the game to play from the back tees. I was walking (they were riding), and I was pretty much on their ass. Wasn't even playing that fast either. Hit some practice balls, practiced putting, still caught them on most holes. /rant

Most of the "players" sets of irons don't matching wedges. The Mizuno MP line only goes to PW, and I suspect that's the case for most other manufactures with their low-handicap targeted sets. Plus, you can have way more touch with traditional style wedges, than any that would match a set. Mostly, imo, because the faces are too hot for shots around the green. Personally, I'm inching closer and closer to dropping my matching Gap (50 degree) wedge for something with a less hot face, and more traditional. I'm sure I'll prefer the matching for full shots, but it's much tougher to control on shorter pitches and half shots.

Voted 3 iron, but I'm pretty sure I could hit a 2 since my 3 is one of my favorite clubs to hit. Kinda crazy to write that, as I couldn't hit a 5 (or 6 for that matter) worth a shit just two years ago.

I'm the same way, sorta. Lefty: Write, eat, soldering iron, etc Righty: throw, kick, golf My girlfriend noticed something when I was making a sandwich the other day. Apparently, I chopped up a tomato and an onion with my right hand, but I spread mayo on the bread with my left. Also, I use a mouse with my right hand, which seems like is should be a left handed, more precise move. What a weirdo!
