Need to elevate my game...
Ping for life replied to Dr. Slice's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
Your local course should have someone on staff certified by the PGA ask the folks for a couple of lessons. Having someone qualified spend even 30 miutes with you will really help. -
Sorry to pile on and I do believe your intentions where good BUT! the others are right it is always best to keep ones advice to himself unless it has been solicited. Even then unless it is something so blatenly obvious I believe the best response is. "I am still working out the kniks in my own game, and since my last name is not Haney I don't feel I am qualified to give advice." This way if some piece of advice given completely screws him or her up more I cannot be blaimed for it.

Aj's the truth about golf

Hold the phone do you mean wearing nike shirts and hitting a nike golf ball will not make me play like Tiger ;( -
The Story is for you if... • You often hit your chips fat or thin • Your chips fly too far or too short of your target • Your chipping impact sounds like a "thud" instead of a "click" The Solution You have an easy up-and-down opportunity from light rough, but you blade your ball across the green. Why did I do that? You hit up into the ball instead of down and through it. You could have just as easily caught it fat. How to stop doing it As with most shots, you can eliminate the majority of your errors if you make sure your setup is correct (turn the page to learn how). The goal of your chipping address position is to situate your body, arms, hands and club to create a descending blow without chunking the clubhead into the ground, or striking the ball with the leading edge of the clubface. Your setup and technique are correct if your impact position looks like this. Key Move - Clubhead Low Compare the height of the ball with the height of the clubhead: The ball is high and the clubhead is still very low to the ground. This proves that a downward strike—not an upward flip—gets the ball rolling up the clubface and into the air. SHOULDER DOWN An easy way to create the desired descending blow is to keep your left shoulder down through impact. Don't raise your left shoulder—keep it low and square to your target line. WRIST FLAT You won't chip well if you flip your hands through impact or bend your wrists. Your left wrist should be as flat as possible. If you have trouble keeping your left wrist from breaking down, try using your putting grip. TOE CLOSE Although your hands should be passive and your left wrist straight, they do need to rotate so that the club turns over on its heel through impact. Try to smoothly rotate the toe of the cub toward your target (don't jerk it) as you swing through the impact area. WEIGHT FORWARD At address, distribute the majority of your weight over your left foot and, more importantly, keep it there throughout your stroke. If you hang back on your right side, you'll swing up into impact—and that's the problem that got you here in the first place. Set up for Solid Chips Get the toe of the club up and the handle forward for a solid, consistent chipping stroke Read more: http://www.golf.com/golf/instruction...#ixzz0kRV81UYL

How do you mark your ball for identification?
Ping for life replied to SergioFan23's topic in Golf Talk
So far I seem to be the only one playing Bridgestone so it has not been a problem for me yet. But I do keep a sharpie on hand just in case. -
I agree 100% don't see the need for 2 56's

The Stack and Tilt Golf Swing
Ping for life replied to iacas's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
I purchased the S&T; book saturday read up to the part in the book where you go out and hit 50 shots. On sunday I went out and practiced what I had learned, I was a bit skeptical at first but 30 shots into it I was hitting the ball with more compression and hitting it farther and straighter than I did all of last year. Suffice it to say I was looking forward to reading more about it after such a eye opening practice session. One question I have for all of you people that are shrugging this off as a fad or just because Hank isn't teaching it the S&T; must be a passing fad. Whatever it ends up being if you keep an open mind and READ the whole book instead of giving analysis on something you A. have not tried or B. have not read completely to understand the why's and how comes of the swing. Your bashing of it is unfounded in any practical hands on application of it. Will it work for everyone? NO I don't believe it will, some people just will not be able to break away from what they feel is the best way to swing a club. But for some it may be a light bulb above the head moment where they realize this is what it's like to hit a golf ball well and consistantly. Is that not what we all would like to do? If what you are doing now works for you GREAT!! you have no need for it. If what you are doing now makes you want to give up the game and play tennis, try it out you just may end up keeping your clubs and enjoying the great game of golf for many years. It's true the great players seemed to be able to do things we mere mortals cannot. But if you look closely much of what they did well is incorporated in the S&T; method. If the S&T; is not for you reply to other threads where you may know of what you speak, instead of dismissing something you don't. If you tried it and hated it, well sorry that it didn't work out for you I hope you eventually find something that does. -
I still remember the days when you had a choice between the 90 or 100 compression ball or the balatta balls. And I am only 39 now they make so many different kinds of balls it's difficult to know which is best. What is your swing speed? 105+ you need this 105 to 95 you should hit that below 95 well then you need this ball. I found the Bridgestone Tour B330-RXS fits my needs. I will sacrifice a little distance for the added benefits around the green Optimized for AMATEUR AVERAGE < 105 MPH Swing Speeds Very SOFT Urethane Cover for players seeking extra greenside spin control Large & SOFT Gradational Compression Core with a soft feel and added forgiveness Mantle layer for high repulsion and workability I used to be a Titlelist guy and will still play one from time to time I just wanted to try something different and found that I like the Bridgestone products.

I agree completely with you darkprince if that makes us wierd than so be it. Why would you spend good hard earned money to play a round and not take the time to loosen up find your swing and get a feel for the greens (assuming the putting green is a good representation as to how the course greens play) 50/50 chance on that. Some people can pull it off I just don't happen to be one of them. I find it also helps me get my head into the game and find out what my ball flight tendencies for the day are likely to be. If I am fading the ball consistently on the range I can play that fade to my advantage during the first hole.

I would tend to agree and disagree with the previous posts Agree that is more balls than needed, a bucket of about 60-75 on friday fallowed by some putting and chipping. Sat. Short game 100 yds and in if you have the facility to do it bring in some of your own parcatice balls and a shag bag and hit 100 or so from varying distances than a little putting. Sunday let's play some golf after hitting a warm up bucket of 20-30 balls. I cannot stand starting off a round cold.

I try to encourage people that have never played golf to give it a try, if it is a sport that they would like to get into i always encourage them to learn the rules and etiquette. I will even lend them my books on it I may seem a little strange to some people but I was taught not to go to the golf course in jeans or work clothes. I always wear clothes appropriate for a Clountry club i.e. golf slacks (black) nice golf shirt or sweater look like a respectable golfer. Not sandles cut off jean shorts t shirt that says "I am not fat this is just a gas tank for a beer machine" I do not guzzle a six pack before the turn and will never laugh at you for hitting a poor shot. I do not give swing advice unless someone asks for my input. Act like a gentleman obey the rules and a fun time will be had by all. I do not look down upon those that approach the game differantly, I feel they where not taught the same reverance for tha game than I was. It's just how I was taught the game, unfortunately other view it as a good way do guzzle beer and act like a fool. They usually will not end up playing with me for long, that's not my thing. But I will always encourage people to play the greatest sport known to man and maybe the way I act will rub off on someone else. Sorry to be long winded but I feel strongly about this particular subject

All Ping Irons are made and assembled in the U.S. the driver heads and hybrids are China :( That being said, this could be my older age speaking but I could care less how they look as long as they get the job done. Many people have commented that they are ugly or I just couldn't get used to the look (WHAAAAAT) I hit it well but it's ugly these comments leave me dumbfounded and scratching my head. But to each his or her own as long as we are playing the greatest game created on some of the prettiest courses we are all the better for it. Now get out there and smack that little white ball around and don't forget to have some fun :)

Those that are sticklers for a certain brand (myself included) have found the feel or look or playability they are happy with. And they tend to stay with what works for them. The only club in my bag that is not a Ping is my Inza putter. But I have been eyeballing the new im putters :)

Which one? Ping G10 3 wood or 15 deg Hybrid?
Ping for life replied to KimboSlice's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I had the same problem last year so I went with the G10 14 degree 3 wood and the 15 degree hybrid and the 18 degree hybrid that FOR ME anyway filled the gaps I had -
Callaway X18r's or PING G5/10/15
Ping for life replied to Balto's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I am biased towards Ping, with that being said I would steer you towards the G10's now that the 15's are out you could pick up a set cheaper and the differnece between the two is not significant. You can make the Callaway take back easier by stating you where fit for a set of clubs (Ping) and the lie angle on the Callaways do not match your physical makeup. If the Callaways and the Pings you get fitted for are identical angles you are on your own :) Your club fitting may say your a Red and your swing speed may indicate you need a stiff flexed shaft then I believe you are home free :) -
First thing I noticed was the colr, second was the 9.5 and third was lack of serial number also. As far as people not registering they're clubs. You spend tons of money on a club they are individual numbered and the web site makes it easy to do it. Why the heck would'nt you do it, Heck I have every serial number in my Palm on hand at all times. Maybe I am a freak but it works for me :) I LOVE PING

Stick with R9 or go back to Ping!!??
Ping for life replied to mazza78's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I would tend to agree with deronsizemore hit every club you can and go with the one that gives you the best results. How a club looks at address is a personal issue, I could care less if it looked like a twisted willow branch if it worked. Every club in my bag minus my Inza putter is a Ping, I still go out and try other clubs when they come out but I still have yet to find another brand that works as well for me. I am sure ther is someone that can say that about every other brand out there. My G10's are still a great club the G15's are not enough of an improvement to get me to change. -
Looking for Swing Analysis (Video Included)
Ping for life replied to adamgoodman's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
I would ask what club where you hitting? Ball placement seemed deep in stance but if you where hitting a higher lofted club that would make sense. I might wager a 7 or 8 iron but I really can't tell. I am not a trained swing analyzer but it seemed like you where breaking your wrists at the moment you started your back swing, let them break naturally keep them straight at takeway. Watch some slow motion clips of Tigers swing there a a bunch of them out there. Then watch yours side by side if possible you will notice that his hips move less than it appears yours do (less back and forward movement) once again I am not a trained swing coach or even a perfect example of a golf swing myself. -
It's more mental than anything, you also need the right situation do do it in. Short cut fairway with a hard ground underneath is risky at best, I used my G10 of the deck when needed and when possible. My playing partners are amazed but it really is not that difficult if you have parcticed it.

If You Were Tiger's Coach, What Would you Change About His Swing?
Ping for life replied to colin007's topic in Tour Talk
Not a lick of advice for his swing, heck I would ask him for his advice on mine. My advice would be for his personnal life climb back on that beautiful wife that gave you two wonderful children and stay out of the trailer park shorts (dummy) once he can get that personal stuff in check the golf part will just come naturally. -
I would ventture to guess that you start thinking to much when you are by yourself. Others may keep your mind elsewhere which is often a better place to be, rather than always thinking about your backswing or is your grip perfect etc. etc. Or it may be that golfing with others takes you out of your routine, your pre shot routine get's quicker because someone else is waiting on you and you feel you need to rush it. Just my 10 cents the first 2 where free

Drive for show and putt for dough is as true now as it has ever been, sure you may be able to smack a ball somewhere in the neighborhood of 300 yards but if you are taking your second shot from the adjacent fairway and have to pull of some sort of miracle to get it on the green much less close to the hole how much does that help lower scores. I can fly a ball out to 250 until I can get a handle on more short game I will forever be a 11 hdcp, far more than I would like to remember has a 275 yd drive gone to waste because my approach shot bit me in the hinder and I could not get up and down for par much less birdie. My best advice for those of you that always want to be the longest in your group, forget about it don't even watch the other person's drive because more often than not you will over swing trying to out drive the long ball hitter in front of you and you will end up off in the trees or in the drink. Stay loose and relax, have fun, enjoy the scenery and enjoy playing the greatest game we have ever been blessed to participate in. So whether you carry it 200 yds. or 270 yds. as long as you can rip her down the middle and give yourself a shot at the green in two, it sure bits no shot at all. That's my 10 cents the first 2 where free
