I have titleist 735 combo, but I'd much rather have a full mb set.

Tall golfer (6'2") looking for lie angle info?
hero12 replied to handlez42's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
6'4", I play 1/2'' longer and standard lie. I have never ever doubted my irons, honestly haven't even thought about it until I read this thread. -
A repeatable swing is not all it's cracked up to be
hero12 replied to tshapiro's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
When I hear repeatable, I think of it as the swing I can rely on to be consistent under pressure, or anytime really. Thats like practicing driving your car into other cars, planning for head on crashes.... -
The secret to golf: Lessons from Jim Furyk
hero12 replied to bunkerputt's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
Here's a story most of you won't care about. I played many sports in high school and was always decent at golf purely because of my athleticism. After high school I started to focus more on golf and really worked on my mechanics. I've been comfortable with my basic mechanics for a couple years now. This year a started out with major slice issues, but because I had decent basic mechanics, I knew it wasn't my swing that was the problem. Turns out I was simply standing too upright at address. One week to the next was a 16 stroke difference, and I have been happy with my scores since then. Moral: Having solid fundamentals will allow you to trust your swing. You can't trust fundamentals that will continue to deliver bad results. Practice doesn't make perfect, perfect practice makes perfect. -
Hogan's "Secret" (Hinged Left wrist)
hero12 replied to bkoguy07's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
I tried cupping my wrist last year when having snap hook issues. I didn't read too much into it, just made sure it was cupped at the top. It felt a lot easier to get a lot of clubhead speed, and I hit amazing iron shots. I shot my first round under par doing this, but a week later my game went down the tube, and I went back to my natural swing. -
You always want to keep your hands ahead of the ball when chipping. This is easy for me if I make sure my top hand is in control. If you don't do this, you'll need a lot more consistent precision. I don't know what is right, but for short chips, set hands ahead and make a stroke similar to putting.

Time for new wedges...recommendations?
hero12 replied to RichWW2's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I am also a 6'4" lefty. I bought my first set of vokeys when I was a sophmore in high school. I replaced two of them this year with more vokeys, extended half an inch. I played a few rounds with a cg15 56 and didn't really like the look of it at address. My guess is this thread will turn into another titleist vs cleveland, but I recommend something that gives you confidence behind the ball. -
Which blades to get? Titleist or Mizuno?
hero12 replied to strongbow14's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I've had my titleist's for over 5 years, and I won't get rid of them until there are no grooves. That being said, check out some wilsons, they've had great blades forever. -
To start, I hate, and wouldn't be comfortable with anything other than a 35'' blade putter, but I see no reason to ban longer putters. When tiger was at his best he used a regular putter. Jack used a regular putter. Can somebody name me a player who they feel is or was one of the greatest putters of all time and also uses a belly putter? I'd see a restriction on head size (mallets bother me) before shaft length.

Do you make changes to your bag?
hero12 replied to noefi13b's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
You really need to pick a driver and a putter to stick with. On certain courses I will take out my 3 iron and switch my wedged to have 4, but normally I stick with the same 14. Imo you need to get used to a certain putter, driver, woods/hybrid, and set of irons. Changing involves too many swing changes, you should be looking for consistency. -
Stock shafts vs. After-market shafts
hero12 replied to Slappy9's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
98% of other players: Play golf using their "Oh so terrible" stock shafts and enjoy their time out with friends, seeing the beauty of the courses and enjoying the game that is clearly a "joke" because not enough money is spent on it. OP: Plays golf to show off the amazing "stuff" he/she can buy to make him/her look amazing, money that would be better spent on a trip to St. Andrews to learn what golf is really about. Sure the right equipment helps, but at the end of the day I prefer to play the game for the game, not the equipment I can afford. -
Mid golf pride cord on everything except my irons. Winn g8 mid's on my irons. I will eventually switch the irons over to cord, but my money is best spent elsewhere at the time because I really don't mind the g8 grips. I don't use a glove and play in Minnesota, this means my hands are always sweaty. The g8's get slippery in the rain or humidity, but the cord grips are always awesome.

It isn't uncommon for friends who rarely golf to out drive me. None of them are consistent, but it does happen. A baseball player plays golf for the first time can hit the ball a ton 1 out of 20 times, with the wind I don't doubt 320 is feasible with a lucky swing and perfect conditions. That being said, the doubters have given good advice. You are probably at the point in your game to work on perfecting your swing before investing in your clubs, but if you must, you need to get fitted. If you work on the swing, you might find that the consistency of a slower swing will outweigh the benefits of a 1 in 20 ratio of long balls. If this is the case, you'll need to get a new driver to fit your new swing.

Completely the opposite. Their putters look terrible, but I love the feel. They provide just enough feedback to know you struck it well. They actually do produce better roll on longer putts.
-
I use my 60 around one time per round. I use a 54 degree and that is my favorite. I can get it up when I need to, but it has the control for almost every other shot game shot. I never hit my 60 full, too un-reliable, use it for short sided bunker and extremely delicate shots.
-
Ha imagine the divots this guy would take if he played iron shots.
-
I pick my landing spot, then pick the club from there. I normally land it half-way to the pin with a lot of spin and let it check after the first bounce then it rolls out to the pin.
-
It might be unorthodox, but on bunker shots where I need to carry it around 20-25 yds, I take a pw and swing full and smooth. It comes out a little lower, rolls a bit more, and gets the job done. If you short side yourself and have no green to work with, well good luck I guess because this won't work as well.

Ball Placement - Forward vs. Variable?
hero12 replied to PiustheDrGolf's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
I think it depends more on the shot at hand rather than anything else. If I am playing a long iron shot from the fairway into a green, I will play middle or a little in front of mid. If I am playing a wedge to an easy pin position, I will play it back of middle for a one hop stop. Punch shots are back of middle etc. For me a preferred shot is middle for all irons, but my situation dictates my ball position because that is the easiest variable for me to change. -
How Do You Hit 170 Yards With 7 Iron?
hero12 replied to ronaldkuntoro's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
But you are at a disadvantage from the get go if an opponent is hitting a 9 iron from the same spot as your 7. This is something I see a lot of. I can out shoot some of the guys I play with, but when they hit an 8 on a 175 yd par 3, my 6 can't consistently put it inside them. I'd rather approach with an 8 than a 6. -
Frustrated, at a crossroads - HELP!
hero12 replied to Floger's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
On days like that it is best to just forget about your swing, just keep it smooth and in tempo until you can hit the range. I have never had a lesson, I just play all the time. Golfing in the morning by myself is the best practice. It gives me time to put myself in positions I need to work on and maybe hit an extra ball or two from there. My best advice, work on your game 80yds and in. Wedge game and putting is extremely important, getting up and down can turn a terrible hole into a success. Plus, if you hit two good shots on a par 5, an up and down can possibly get you back a stroke. -
My irons are lengthened by a 1/2" and my wedges are not; I definitely notice this when trying to hit a full wedge shot. I should probably get fitted again because I've grown about 3 in. since I bought my irons. It makes a world of difference.

How to tell when you need new irons?
hero12 replied to PuttPutt's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I've had my titelists for a little over 4 years. Even though my pw-8 irons are getting very wore down, I don't want to change because I hit them well. Even if the victory red blades are really cheap now... -
Feel 'nothing' when hit sweet spot with blades
hero12 replied to khale's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I played cavity back irons until I starting playing a big draw with them. I am left handed, so it is near impossible to try out a set of irons, even hit them in store, before I buy. Luckily one of the guys at the store let me borrow his for a round, I immediately placed my order for my titleists and love them. I think blades are harder for certain people. If you struggle to get cb's in the air, there's no way you will be able to play blades.
