I used TopFlite D2 Feels for most of last season, but tried out a dozen Gamers for comparison. The only difference I could notice was that the Gamers' cover shredded much more easily than the Feel.

Top-Flite Gamer. I'd buy some, but I'm broke. Think they are about $20.

Ditto. You'd need to be a 5 or better to justify spending more. The Gamer is a great ball for most of us. I gave up expensive Bridgstones for them and never missed a beat.

well, i'd say it depends on how well off you are financially :)

I got 4 boxes for christmas, purchased another 5 dozen for $35 and got 4 dozen used pro v1x's for $30 to use for practicing. So i'm set for the year. As far as an alternative, I believe I tried the Srixon Utri tour ball and they were about $30, not sure if they still make it.

Srixon had a 2 for 1 offer in Germany since i think late 2007 - so i just bought boatloads of Z-URS for 50% off which was nice, since my balls dont last for 27 holes.

If you are only losing one ball every 27 holes why would price be a concern. I know after 9 I wish I would lose my ball so I can hit one in better shape.

thats what i was thinking too. one ball every 27 holes is nothing to be concerned with

You can buy Bridgestone B330s for about $40 a dozen. That would get you very similar performance to a Pro V1 for less money.
You could also go to a mid-range ball (Titleist NXT, Bridgestone E5+/E6+/E7+) for about $30 a dozen.
You could also go to an inexpensive/distance ball for about $20 a dozen. The Bridgestone Treosoft, Precept Distance 180 iQ, Titleist DT Carry/DT Roll and Callaway Warbird are some good ones that I know of.

I recently switched from Pro V1x to Bridgestone B330 - RX which were about $A20 cheaper here in Melb. The NXT Tour is a really good ball as well. Don't forget the cheapest ball is the one you find and if you like to hit Pro-Vs you're better off wandering up the left side of the fairway. I've found that Pro Vs are usually played by better players and from my experience better players tend to lose the ball to the left off the tee. That's where you'll find them.

Played my last 27+ holes in October with a Callaway HOT, instead of the ProVs I'd played all of the last 2 years, which is just under 60 percent of the cost of the Titleists. I actually liked it. On the recommendation of someone here in a similar, but more recent thread, going to try the new "Plus" version of the same ball this Spring. Hit it just as far, it stopped on the greens, felt good putting. Before I went with ProVs, I had played a black Slazenger I really liked for a couple of years, but they stopped making them, so I went with the Titleists, which have been great. Still, played some great golf over a couple of days with that Callaway and can't think of any shots it cost me . . .
