I'm a pitch it and let the ball drop and stop/backsip type of approach player.

My dad on the otherhand always hits low pitches and rolls the ball onto the green, and he always seems to get that "lucky" bounce off the bunker berm etc and knocks his ball towards the hole.

Most American players are drop and stop, and Euro's favor the pitch and run.

What type are you? (I'd make a poll but I dunno how ) (N/M common sense prevailed!)

I think that less shit can go wrong and I don't have to worry about break if I drop it next to the hole.

I'm with you. I can't vote in the poll because I make these decisions as I'm going along, depending on conditions. If it's uphill and I have a lot of green to work with I'm more likely to play a Pitch and Run. Vice versa if it's downhill. I don't want the ball to run too far past the cup so I'll play a Drop and Stop and try to get it to check up near the pin. If I play it right it'll stop just a little ways past the pin on the downhill side, leaving me a short uphill putt.

I voted fly and drop because it is my favorite but I do both equally (like others say, it depends on the situation).

My son and I were talking about this not 10 minutes ago.

For me, it depends on the approach. If there are no bunkers guarding or other hazards that will imped the ball from moving forward then I'll pitch and run. If, on the other hand, I have to negiotiate a possible obstruction, I'll fly and drop. For him, he's a deadly flopper and a master of the wedges.

I do see more Americans fly and drop - bullseye shots I call them. When I'm in Scotland, the majority of golfers pitch and run. Courses are different to be sure but they are generally better at pitching and stopping the ball nearer the pin. It took me a long time to get the technique down.

pitch and run is the easier shot to make. 20% air and 80% ground rule.

Well i used to be a drop/stop, but now I lost my technique and I'm more of a Drop/Roll 4 feet past the hole kind of deal.

I prefer pitch and run. Unless there is no green to work with. As has been said before, its situation dependant, but I'd favour the pitch and run.

Drop and stop for me. More control on length, bump and running can get me way past the hole.

Pitch and run.

I'm not accurate, neither with distance or with contact (spin). So the best option for me is to get the ball going in the general direction and let it roll. If I were to try to fly and stop, I might be stopped 10 yards to the left or right, usually in a sand trap of some kind. But, as long as I get it rolling in the right direction, the worst case scenario would be to roll it past the hole into the fringe.

That's the goal, anyway.

i play a course with fast greens and fairways so i hit low balls and allow the break to put it close to the hole.

the rough is absolutely deadly. its tall and thick and you never get a good lie. if the pin is close to the rough or i have to get it over the rough a grab the 60* and take a 70% swing

Unless i can pitch&run; it most of the distance over the green and knowing the break i prefer "hop & stop".

Of course there are many situations where you just dont get it to stop from that yardage so i try to figure out what kind of shot gives me the best chance for up&down;, considering lie, whats in front of me, slope of green, wind and everything else i might have forgotten...

Drop 'n stop. If its windy though, I may hit a pitch 'n run. Different conditions call for different shots.

It really depends on the situation but I'm all about gratuitous loft. Honestly I don't flub too many chips so playing high drop and stop shots is much more fun and gets just as good results if not better than bump and runs. If I have a back pin from a good distance out though I'll try to play a low spinner or maybe a bump and run.

      Day 56: 4/19/2024 Okay, even though I'll be teeing it up in a tournament in less than a week. I couldn't find time to get to the range today.  I spent time on the indoor putting mat.  And I spent time in front of the mirror with my 7 iron. Then again later with the driver.  I also thoroughly cleaned all my clubs.
