i have a 60 degree wedge in my bag right now, but i am really having trouble with touch off of my chips. So i thought about putting a 56 degree vokey with a high bounce into my bag for the conference tournament. i have always chipped better with this club, i simply need the 60 degrees in case of flop shots or ridiciouls chips from sand or rough. do i really need a 60 degree and is it my technique, or does higher bounce help chipping?

Wedge reads 60 degrees, but plays 62 degrees and has almost no bounce if any. Vokey has 10 degrees of bounce.

coming from my opinion, i never like using a 60degree. my 58***edit has done the job for me throughout whatever cause i needed. but in your case, i would just honestly put both clubs in. it would seem to solve both problems, and still be able to hit your flops. i can't see the problem in taking out one club unless you hit every one.

It's all about preferences and what you like best. I've got a 56º and a 60º in my bag. Definately use my 60º the most. The course I play the most have got touch greens, bunkers right in front, hard to reach if I don't go high.

I've practiced a good bit with my wedges, moving the ball around, putting the weight on my front foot. I get the occasional fat and thin shots, but that's a result of my swing. I love my 60º, sticking it within 1-3 meters of the pin. What other wedges do you have? I've got a 52º too, then there's a jump down to 47º on my PW. I find this combination very useful, mostly use 56º and 60º, not so much the 52º.

I was playing around with my wedges today and notice that I can deloft my 60 degree by playing it behind my back food and closing the club face and it will change the ball flight similar to a pitching wedge with solid contact.

Personally I find the 60-deg to be too open for my liking. So, I've settled for a 58.12. If you cannot have the 2 wedges (56 & 60) perhaps you want to settle for the in-between 58. If you can carry both, then just use the 56 and 60.

I carry both. 60 is good for green side chipping in addition to flops. 56 with more bounce good from traps and longer pitches. Two important clubs! 54/58 combo would be good too.

It's all preference. I don't like using my 60* for chipping, b/c it usually leaves it short b/c it gets too much loft on it and doesn't roll up . I've been looking at getting a 56* and 52* soon to add to my bag.

I'd go with the 56, especially since you even stated that you "always chip better with this club."

How many flop shots do you figure you'll need in one round anyway? I honestly don't think I've had to play a flop shot all year and any higher lofted shot that I do need to play I can play it easily with my 56 by opening the face a couple degrees and essentially turning it into a lob wedge.

Maybe you put yourself in a lot of odd situations on the course? I don't know, but for me, a flop shot is hardly ever needed and should be a last resort since it's definitely one of the most difficult shots to pull off successfully and get close to the hole since you cannot control how hard the ball will bounce or spin once it hits the green.

It's not easy, but a straight shot with a 60º isn't that difficult. I hit it clean most of the time. It doesn't take more than an akward hole position and bunker in front of the green before you need some elevation. Of course, most of the time it works with 56º, but I use my 60º very much. Put the ball in the middle of the stance, maybe a bit behind and just make sure I hit down on it. Pops the ball out very nicely.

Everyone must decide for themselves what they want in the bag, with a limit of 14 you must stop at one point. Today I've got 6-PW irons, two hybrids, one wood, one driver, one putter and three wedges in my bag. I've got the hybrids since I can't hit the irons well enough yet, once I'll get it down I can take them out, maybe put a 4 iron in there if I can hit it. Or I can just keep the hybrids instead of longer irons. I like to hit irons better, but I'm not good enough at this point to use them.

I'm using Pro V1, with my 60º the ball usually stops pretty dead as long as the green is level. It is just a matter of practice, for me that shot is much easier than fi. long irons.

I play alot on a small 6-hole course with very small greens and elevation around, to land the ball withing 1-2 meters of the flag I have to go high. This has definately made me better on these kind of shots. I'm not too comfortable with the flop shop, I prefer a straight 60º shot. But I might get better at that in time too, if I can have 56º instead of 56º and 60º it'll be one less club in the bag.

In something like a conference tournament, I would definitely go with the club "that you chip well with"...no matter what club. Take what you have confidence in, what you know will work for you, and your score will show it.

Good luck!

Keep the 56* and put the 60* on the bench. If you are chipping well with the 56* don't risk using the 60*. Case in point: I love my 56* RAC nickle; I mean, I loved my RAC. I left it on the 8th hole of a course and never got it back (another story...). I had an old Cleveland 56* started using it again and life was getting back to normal. I used the 60* once or twice but grooved on the 56. Last week I was in a tournament and had an in-between chip/flop and pulled out the 60*. Mistake! I flopped it alright... 15 feet in the air and 2 feet forward. Grabbed the 56* and put it 6 feet from the pin. Coulda, shoulda...

Go with the confidence builder.

I like having a 54 w/high bounce and a 58 with medium bounce. I chip a whole lot more with the 54 and PW than the 58 which is basically for flop shots around the green and full shots from 65yds.

I basically never use my lob wedge. I do most of my chipping and pitching with a 52* gap wedge. i use the 56* once and a while, and basically only use my 60* if hitting a very high flop shot, or if there is basically no room to land the ball.

i would recomend trying to use a gap or sand wedge, chipping and pitching with a lob wedge isnt good imo.

Wedge set up that will improve your irons

1) rear shoulder dropped lower that your front shoulder
1A) pick up the club naturally
2) take the club back to with your shoulders in a slow and deliberate tempo
3) unwind your shoulders back toward the ball
4) you should hear the click of a solid contact with your club to ball

once you hit your wedge shot solid and consistently you can test your other irons on the range including your hybrid, fairway woods and even driver with the same swing.

A 56º it´s a decent tool to have. You only need to master it and don´t need to carry a 60º
I´ll give you two good examples : below his 50º gap wedge, Lorena Ochoa only uses a 56º...
And Tom Walson does the same, too
Don´t you think they are capable to make all the shots they need, including stopping the ball on a dime, spin it back or make pitch-and-runs?

I don't like to compare with PGA or LPGA pros, everyone got their own preferences. Ochoa (who's a woman btw) and Walson may use 56º, but the worlds best golfer, Tiger Woods, has got a 56º and a 60º in his bag. You can discuss this all the way through the PGA roster and end up even more confused. Don't do what everyone else does, experiment with your own clubs and your own game to find what suits you the best.

- I do know that Lorena Ochoa it´s a woman, btw. And that is not related to her short game skills

- If can agree you in not to compare our game with the pros, so then what Tiger Woods carries doesn´t matter (even if is it a 60º) - If you take notice, I carry three wedges : 50º GW, 54º SW, 58º LW. I do know this setup is what suit me the best - You can go through the Pelz system carrying 4 wedges or use Stan Utley´s theory in use-your-most-versatile-58º-for-all, or experimenting your own, or make what you want, but... - ... if someboy ask for help because has some problems deciding, I feel comfortable giving him my opinion. I don´t deny yours and I don´t agree I´m confusing people, only giving some help, what I think is what was asked
