How did you decide what swing you were going to have? What made you choose S&T; or One plane swing, et cetera.

I've been told that I have a two-plane swing. I didn't consciously decide that's what I wanted. It just happened.

idk what kind i have all i know is its just what happens and it works

I would completely agree with this comment. I am sure you can change your swing to have what ever type of swing you would like, but if you don't have hours a day to dedicate to it, it may be quite difficult.

Nobody chooses a swing and then goes after it. What happens is that you BUILD your swing from day one. As you learn and get better, it rounds out and what you have is your swing. I recently adjusted my swing so that I my wrists do not hinge during the entire backswing, what happens is that my wrists naturally hinge at the top of the backswing by me just rotating my arms and chest. Its still a work in progress but it is a little more consistent and I can draw or fade the ball with this swing, how I do either, I have no clue, but once I figure it out I'll be ready.

I do.

At any given time on any given round I might be swinging or hitting or as TPI calls it rotating or thrusting. Arnold Palmer was a swing with his woods and long irons, and a hitter with the rest of his clubs. There are very many different ways to skin a cat.

Choose a swing? My swing is what it is and it's been built (sort of!) over many years. Does anyone choose what sort of swing they want??

Sure they do! Thats what all this hooplah surrounding S&T; is about. Many players are adopting it.

For me, I use a simple (slightly flat) and repeatable 1-plane swing. Still a work in progress, but its a work in progress for everyone!

my swing is half stack and tilt and half home made.

i use the s&t; method of pressing the shaft forward at address, and i plant the majority of my weight on my left foot at takeaway and almost all of it at impact... i had issues shifting my weight from my right and left feet with my old swing... so this works better for me... i press the shaft forward like i would do with a wedge because it promotes a draw.

works well for me with my iron play.. but not with my driver. i still sweep the ball off the tee ... i could never get used to the S&T; method of swinging straight down at the ball with my driver or 4 wood...

i lost a bit of distance but i now have pinpoint accuracy. and im WAY more consistent...

i've got a pretty old school swing - the sam snead "one piece" swing where the hips and shoulders all turn together as one. i also have the old school habit of kind of dragging the club back with my hands in the takeaway and letting the clubhead catch up to my hands later on in the swing, a la julius boros.

I don't wanna sound rude, but a 21 handicap with now "pinpoint" accuracy-that made me chuckle, ha ha.

its true actually. i kill my irons most days and my wedge play is better than most people i play with...

i actually play to a 14.7 hc. i put 21 down because ive been playing all winter long and i suck badly when its 20* outside and the ground and balls are rock hard and i usually change my hc here based on how im playing currently.. not my true index potential.. hit 7 of 18 gir's last weekend.. my biggest weakness is my putting. i actually missed a 4 foot putt for eagle after reaching a 492 yard par 5 in two... if i can get the flat stick to work on these bermuda greens... i'll be very happy.

I have my swing. I take a club, position myself infront of the ball, take the club away and behind my head. I start shifting weight and rotating the body. The club follows and strike the ball.

Isn't this what most people do? The biggest variations are S&T; and swings like Furyk, but nobody plays like Furyk. :P

The basics are the same, it's just a matter of details and minor differences.

I have a one plane swing. I hit the ball farther and higher as a two plane, I just couldn't stand not knowing where the ball was going. Either is comfortable for me, but as I have a bad back decided that one plane made more sense, since the amount of practice needed for tempo and consistency with a two plane exceeded by backs limits.

I've tried EVERY single method out there, and it was the worse decision I've ever made.

Now, I'm back to what works, my natural swing. May not look pretty (i'm not video taping it so I haven't seen it), but it gets the job done. Shots are better because my mind is at ease, hence more target-oriented.

The type of swing is basically a setup like S&T; - on top of the ball in a sense. Then the backswing is focus on width, feel the stretch of my left arm and rib cage... and then just let go and strike the ball.

Has been working well - just need to work on the short game more. Recently took out the bag from the trunk - only my wedges and putter, not to mention 9-7 iron for bump and run, remain there.

    • Day 76 - Pretty sore today, so I opted for putting over my Stack session. Primary focus was on starting line, as my putting has been pretty poor this year.
    • Been a bit of delay in updates but I needed to come back east as my mom's health has taken a serious turn for the worse. In a 3 day span we learned she had a tumor to she has stage 4 cancer and stopped eating and drinking for the most part. She has had a rough 3 months but certainly didn't think we'd be at the point of setting up hospice for her. My mom was never into any sports really other than following the Red Sox because my dad was a big fan. She always cared about what we were involved in including asking about how golf went.  I have kept up with my 5 minutes of daily practice and will go to the gym here in NH tomorrow morning. Despite the somber nature of this trip my family has commented more than a few times about my weight loss so it's important to me to keep it up. I know my mom always wanted us happy in whatever we did so I'll continue with my fitness journey keeping that in mind.
