Why do so many golfers spend $500 on a new driver every year - yet continue to curse and abuse their old, cruddy putter?

Why do my playing partners curse the groundskeeper for the fairways being too soft when they chunk the ball fat? Then complain about the hard fairways at the other local course when they skull it?

Why do people complain about other golfers playing too slow, then get upset when asked to pickup the pace themselves? They don't want to be rushed either.

Why does my buddy insist he hits his 8 iron 180 yards, then whines he hit it fat when it only goes 140 yards (every time)?

How come everyone's a golf pro, and begins offering on-course lessons, when they finally hit a decent shot? And why does their lesson usually begin with "You picked your head up!"

How come everyone I know is a 12 handicap? Especially they guy I just played with, who shot a 110 and took 4 mulligans.

What's with all the golf excuses? How come it's never your own fault when you play poorly?

Why did I make this thread? I should be working!

the only thing I ever complain about is slow greens. I hate having to take a full swing to hit a putt 15 ft. I can deal and adjust to just about anything else. I don't care if they are too fast and the ball comes back to your feet. I would rather than than slow greens.

My swing thoughts:

- Negative thinking hurts more than negative swinging.
- I let my swing balance me.
- Full extension back and through to the target. - I swing under not around my body. - My club must not twist in my swing. - Keep a soft left knee

Because many feel that a putter is a putter. If you think a $15 putter is just as good as a Cameron, then why would you buy anything but the $15 one? Plus, companies push their drivers more than other clubs.

Seems strange then that the club that is used on most of the shots on the course is less important than the one used perhaps under 10 times during a round. If they think a $15 putter is as good as a Cameron, why would they need a new driver? Surely the one from last year is good enough.

For the driver/putter question - because their priorities about playing the game are misplaced.

Cursing the groundskeeper - making excuses for their inability to adapt to dynamic course conditions. Slow play - no one's ever accused me of being slow, not sure how to try and answer that one. Trying to hit an 8-iron 180: Why? I hit a 6-iron 180, that's good enough. Trying to be a pro: Insecurity, maybe. I never give advice to anyone on the course, no matter how well or poorly I'm playing. For obvious reasons, no one gives me advice, either (see rants). Reverse-sandbagging: I admit I did it when I was 14-15 years old. Getting my ass handed to me made me work very hard to legitimize that handicap in the future.

1. Driver tech constantly changes, but putter tech rarely does if it can at all.
2. Never experienced such whiney cry babies.
3. I can hit an 8i 180 with a little wind, but I'd always fess up to a fatty.
4. I am victim to this, but that's only if they ask and if it's blatantly obvious
5. I will agree with this one though. I read an article in Golf Digest about how people lie about handicaps and the most used number is 12. LOL
6. My play will be and will always be my fault, good or bad.
7. You can make any thread you want

Why oh why after numerous lessons does it still take time to adjust on the course to make better scores?

Why is golf so painfully addicting?

To the OP: Mostly Ego, for all of them, except why you made the post, for that one sometimes it is good to state rhetorical questions on a public forum.

I have 2 drivers (A gamer and a backup) and about 14 putters. Doesn't mean I putt better though! I spend more time looking for just the right putter, since the most drivers I can hit on most courses will be 14, and I usually have around twice that many putts. Just makes sense to spend more time on the clubs you hit the most.

Re: the putter/driver thing

I think it makes sense. The putter is the simplest club in the bag. It doesn't matter how often you hit it. Hence, the lack of a million different types of putter shafts on the market. You're making such a small stroke as well... it's the easiest club to hit solidly the most portion of the time.

I think a better comparison is why do people by a new driver every year and play the same old ugly wedges and irons. Wedges ACTUALLY wear down over time so that would make the most sense to replace that club, IMO.

I could care less what putter people are using... what irritates me is a $300 driver with a bag full of crap irons/wedges.

People keep saying how often you putt. You hit the same amount (and in my case -- and im positive MOST cases -- MORE) of strokes betwen the tee and the green.

I agree! I get new wedges every season. The turf down here is very sandy, and I play and practice quite a bit so it's necessary to replace my wedges every year or so.

Some PGA Tour pros get new wedges every week! Vijay is one of them. That way he's always got fresh grooves and that clean face every week. Must be nice to have an equipment endorsement...

Q: Why did I walk off the course after waiting 10 minutes on the #2 tee for the world's worst hacks to clear the landing area?

A: If want to spend that much time waiting, I would go visit the doctor.

    • 46+40 for an 86. I just need to play 9 holes on the range before each round. 🤣🤣🤣
    • I don’t measure my intake either. I generally have a black coffee, a bottle of soda, some sweet tea at home, and anything in between is water. An ice cold bottle of water is one of my favorite things. It feels like an immediate refresher for my body. I’ll admit that I need to drink a little more though.
    • For such a nice membership, there have been some bad incidents in the past few years.  We had someone voted out a couple of years ago over something he did and he harassed the board members for three months until he moved out of the area.   Generally they’ve tried to do things like tournament handicaps and identify certain people who they know should be lower and adjust it somehow.  I can understand not wanting to go thru something like the guy who was voted out again i emailed the pro who forwarded it to the handicap committee.  They are going to see what can be done.  I walked someone thru what happened and they are going to nudge him to post the score from the match and see what he does.  Since he didn’t put anything in the electronic scoring past 13, based on how he played 14 and 15 plus having to take bogey on 16-18 for after he left, he should post 83.  We’ll see if it’s even higher,   Since he was really even thru 13, then doubled 14 and parred 15 my guess is he really shot 75 being generous and giving him 2 pars and a bogey on the three holes he didn’t play.    i shot 88, getting 16 shots for my course handicap which is net even and I lost on 13.  We do brackets where handicaps should be within 4-5 of each other.  Most matches only have 1-2 shots as a difference between players  neither of us posted the score yet.  There was something in the match play rules about whether or not to post your score.  I couldn’t remember if we were supposed to or not.  I don’t think he was going to post that, because even with his inflated score it would be the lowest score in his recent 20. Lucky I didn’t because they want to see what he does post and they don’t want me posting so he can try to calibrate his score.
