This is meant to be just a light-hearted, poke-fun-at-yourself type of thread. I joke around with my bro-in-law a lot about the game, when one of us has a bad round that other usually says "so, what's your excuse today." And the goal is to make up something that is just utterly ridiculous. Even if it has some truth to it, you just throw it out there for that day- sometimes as an insult to the other person.

My latest..."well I'm a taller player. We taller players have a more difficult time grooving a swing than players of average height. If I was a short little twirp like you I'd be a 3 handicap by now."

My excuse. "I have a job, family, and not enough time" Also "This F**king game is hard" "I am just getting used to my new clubs" (Had them for 7 months.

After my typical wicked slice into the woods, water or two fairways over, I just say "I like to work my ball from left to right".

Of course, I blame everything, and the guys know I am full of shite, and they all laugh. Or I blame the course, or weather. Too much sun, not enough sun, too much wind, not enough wind. Grass is too long, grass is too short. My other set of clubs are being laundered. Too many dimples on the ball, not enough dimples on the ball. Dave Pelz and his books are the devil . . . stuff like that.

This thread is too good!

10. I'm trying not to break the course record. I don't like all the publicity.
9. I'm in the middle of a swing change.
8. I'll just make it up online.
7. These balls fly weird.
6. I've got too much pressure following my last round. It was a 67.
5. Normally, I drive it 300, but I'm trying to shorten it up to gain some consistency.
4. A mosquito landed on my eyelid on my downswing.
3. These clubs fly weird.
2. I used to be scratch.
1. I'm planning on a couple of hole outs to bring this round back.

One of my personal favorites from my bro-in-law. Say you hit a drive pretty well but it's in the wrong part of the fairway, it rolls through the fairway into a bunker or other hazard, the only logical thing to say is......."this course doesn't reward exceptional ball striking."

I normally blame solar flares or the Earth's rotation.

The air is so thick and humid

I lose balls that I hit fairways with. Watch them stop then they are gone when we walk up. I'm seriously bewildered because other people see it too. Gophers?
