By "under" or "over" sized grips I mean any of the following: extra wrap(s) of tape, grips that are specifically oversized (midsize, oversize) or undersized (typically just called "undersized"), stretched grips (a way to thin 'em out just a tad).

I have larger hands than average, so just recently I had an extra wrap of tape put on. I figured it would be a very small difference, and at first it was quite noticeable, but I'm already seeing results. I don't find myself gripping the club quite as tightly and my hands just fit on the club a teeny bit better. One wrap of tape is like 1/64" of an inch bigger, so it's not a massive change, but already, after one round and one range session, they're starting to feel normal every time I grip 'em, and my old clubs feel a bit thin in my hands.

I started this thread because getting your grip size down right is something every pro does, but which very few amateurs do, and for no real reason. It's basically free - you just have to buy the right grips and/or ask your regripper guy to put an extra wrap on or stretch your grips a bit.

I have pretty small hands. Had an extra wrap of tape added when I had my clubs re-gripped (did so after swinging a friends identical set of clubs with an extra wrap). They feel more secure to me with the extra 1/64". The other day I hit another friends driver (same driver as mine with a different shaft and standard grip) and it didn't feel as near secure as mine does.

I've got kinda big hands, and I've tried a few different things. On all of my clubs, I'm using midsize Golf Prides. The driver and 3w are DD2s, the irons are New Decade Multi Compounds, and the Vokey has the Tour Velvet.

-Difference between driver and 3w is that I have 2 extra wraps on the 3w, no extra wraps on the driver.

-Difference between irons is that I have a couple extra wraps on my 4i and 5i, one extra on the 8i and 9i, and no extra on the PW or GW.

-Vokey has no extra wraps.

On the DD2's, the difference was hardly noticable for me for some wierd reason. I was able to feel the difference a good bit more on the irons, which have the ND MultiComps. All of them definitely feel much more secure in my hands and none feel too big at all. I think anything more than 2 wraps would begin to be too big for me. I say that because my hands line up the way they should, and it's comfortable, but anything bigger, and I'd worry about everything lining up correctly.

I'm odd and working on what to do about grips. My hands are pretty average sized but my pinky fingers are very short. So if my ring finger can hit the palm of my hand my pinky can't come close and it makes holding the club harder. I've thought about regripping a couple with smaller grips because choking down really helps on my normal clubs.

My pinkies don't reach the last knuckle on my ring fingers :/

I now have oversized grips on all my clubs except putter. This is to accommodate my hand arthritis and has made a big reduction in the soreness during 2nd nine and afterwards. It took some practice on the range to get used to the swing and ball striking feel with the new grips, but am now very comfortable with them. The grips are Winn Master Wrap (Winn Excel RF Oversize +1/8” Weather Black); Golfsmith put them on for me.

I have slightly larger hands, so I use Jumbo Velvets because they feel more "natural" and my middle finger isnt digging into the bottom of my thumb

Mine don't either. Whose does? My pinkie ends a very, very small amount before the creases beneath the last knuckle on my ring finger (the palm side).

Isn't your option "Smaller or larger hands, standard grips."???

I have big hands (as in, most XL gloves I try on are too small)

I've had midsize grips and might move up to larger. Took me trying on like 15 types of XL gloves to find some that fit right too.

It's a touch shorter than that though for me. It's a family thing. My little toes do the same thing but the rest are REALLY LONG. My first 3 fingers are longer than normal but my pinky is shorter than normal. It makes the fat end of the grip hard to hold on to. Choking up for me helps a lot. been thinking about smaller grips

I usually use GP Tour Velvets with three wraps of tape but today I installed GP DD2 Midsize grips on my irons, which feel perfect to me. I would say my hands are slightly larger than average, I wear a size L glove.

I wear a medium size glove, but would say I am closer to the small side than large side. I play Winn DuraSoft Midsize (+ 1/16") because I feel the bigger grip takes out my wrist action. Also, my hands just feel more comfortable on a softer grip for some reason. Initially I made the change on my wedges, then my driver. Now I am putting them on everything, except putter. No question there is a difference for me.

Interesting. I just measured my pinky to crease on my ring finger and my pinky goes 3/8" past the crease. I'm a freak!

I'd just traded my 7.5° Ping G10 with a Graffaloy Prolaunch Red shaft for a 7.5° Ping G10 with an Aldilla NV 65-S shaft. The grip on the club with the Aldilla shaft was way too small and worn out. Had a new grip put on...... +1/16 It felt great!

    • Best drive I've ever hit: I will not be answering any questions about the rest of the hole. Or the round, for that matter.
    • I tried hybrids way back when TaylorMade introduced the copper orange Firesole Rescue, the clubhead having been made of titanium which was still relatively new even in drivers back then. I couldn't hit it well at all, and while the success of hybrids suggests that the modern ones must be quite good,  I'm perfectly happy with the 5, 7, and 9-woods.  Early ones of mine were Top Flite Intimidator 400s made by Spalding... and also made of titanium, now that I think of it.  I still have them in my basement. I do bag a driving iron, but it's a one-trick-pony that never sees fairway use.
    • The last time I played Maxfli balls, Dunlop was still making them. How long ago was that? Mostly, though, I used to play Top Flites (original 336 dimple model) when Spalding was still making them. Now I play the Pro V1x. Last time that I ordered some, Titleist was still making them. Let's see how long that lasts.
    • Once, on a course in Middleton, Massachusetts that I used to love but has since closed down,  I hit the wrong half of a huge, UK style double green.  Then I made the hundred foot putt.  Tough to  forget that one.
    • No. But if I can still play next year, I'll almost certainly be even worse. That's the reality of not being young.🙁
