UPS is 0-2 in my book, and if I have any control over my shipping choices in the future, I am going to take my business elsewhere.

My first package, Callaway X-22's off of eBay, took nearly two weeks to reach cross country. It was originally schedule to take a little over a week, maybe about 8 or 9 days, but then for no reason it got pushed back another 4 or 5 days! But overall, that wasn't too bad. I figured it was just an isolated incident, and it didn't really put my off to UPS.

Now, the second time i'm on the receiving end of a UPS package, my Scotty Cameron putter that I have been eagerly awaiting for a week (and very excited for my round I have later today)thanks to a scheduled delivery date of 8/13 (today). I've found out that basically either UPS lost my package OR that it has been sitting in Illinois for 5 days. And there is nothing I can do about it!

I've been tracking the package for the past week or so. It was shipped 8/06 from Indiana. It arrived at 8/08 in Illinois (yes, 1 state over in 2 days, good job UPS!). For the next three days I checked every day and just was confused wondering why there was not yet a departure scan from Illinois. I figured it was just regular shipping issues, and didn't think it was a big deal. By the 3rd day, I was starting to get nervous and hoping that UPS didn't royally mess up the shipment. On the 4th day without movement, I attempted to contact UPS and after fighting a stupid automated voice system for a while without figuring out how to reach an actual human being, (it's actually exceedingly simple I realized later, just hit 0, but the automated voice system never mentioned this option to me...) I just hung up in frustration. The 5th day (today) I called, fought with the automated system again until I finally got a hold of an actual human being (who did a fine job i'll add, not her fault that UPS couldn't do jack about my package).

She was very nice and professional and told me that we would have to put a trace on the package to locate it. Oh, and by the way, the only person who can initiate a trace on the package is the SENDER. So I had to contact the person who sold me the putter, and gave him the phone number and tracking number and told him to please call and initiate the trace at his earliest possible inconvenience.

All this had me wondering, if I hadn't bothered to check my tracking progress, would my package just have been lost forever? probably.

So I advise all of you to take your business to USPS or FedEX instead. I know that for only a buck or two more than UPS' lousy ground shipping you can get USPS priority shipping, which I've had much more success with. I've had 2 successful deliveries with USPS, receiving two separate packages completely cross country (Maryland and New York I believe) in lightning fast time. One was about 3 days I think, and the other was 3 days (1 day drop off at the post office, 1 transit, 1 drop off at my doorstep), no issues at all with either!

i've never had any trouble with UPS - FedEx about gave me fits this past christmas, though. i had purchased a GPS unit from a fellow poster here at the sandtrap, and he sent it via FedEx. i'm tracking it from my computer here at work, which says that, right on schedule, it's sitting on my doorstep.

except i get home and there's nothing there. i look around the front porch, back porch, all around the house, and there's nothing there. i contact the seller, inform him of what's going on, and he and i both start pressing on fedex via phone calls. they swear up and down that it WAS delivered, and that it's out of their hands - it was left on the front doorstep and that's the end of their involvement. the seller refunded me the money i'd sent for the unit, even though i insisted he keep half of it because there was no sense in him getting completely screwed because of this. anyway... we moved on and forgot about it.

about a month later, what shows up on my doorstep? the GPS. the package was a bit battered, and it had clearly been opened once and then re-sealed - probably sent to the wrong house and they opened it before realizing it wasn't theirs is my guess - but all of the contents were there. i contacted the seller again and told him that, well, i'd already kinda bought a different GPS unit so i didn't need this one, so i sent it back to him. like i said, he'd already refunded my money, so i was glad to be able to give him back his GPS.

that was so lame of fedex, i thought. "oh we delivered it. we KNOW we did. it's YOUR problem that it disappeared, not OURS. we are NOT responsible." yeah. good job, fellas.

I've had occasional problems with every shipper. DHL is the only one that, imho, whose service is significantly lower than anyone elses.

UPS? The ship a million boxes a day (literally). They are going to have occasional problems. Just the sheer numbers gurantee it. That's why if you ship an expensive item you insure it with them (you do know the 1st $100 insurance coverage is free.)

I''ve had to claim insruance for a damaged item for UPS. Had no problems. I'd tell you what happened when I tried to claim insurance on a damaged item with the postal service, but I don't have time to write a 30 page story.

I've dealt with UPS, FedEx and USPS. All three were excellent. Delivery on time, everytime (that's a slogan for one of these companies right?). The delivery was even made earlier than expected one time with FedEx.
I like FedEx the most though, their tracking page is the best.

I wonder why nobody uses DHL that much.

I think the best way to avoid leaving your items unattended is to the ship to an address you know you will be available at most of the day, which is probably your business address. I'd never ship to a home address unless I am 100% sure there is someone there to take the item. I can't imagine my purchases being left in the street for anyone to pick them up.

I'm going to have two USPS deliveries soon. Hope nothing goes wrong with them.

i prefer fedex over UPS as well. a few times UPS sent my orders to the wrong address. If thats not the case, then they always leave the item at the front door. When i purchased my MP-52 set, they left the package there for the whole day!! i would be crying if someone took it.

I order so much stuff that the UPS guy knows me by name and knows how to find me at work or home. I always get my packages ;)

Been playing just a few months but I play almost every day.

What's in my bag: Distance Master Driver, Maltby Trouble Out woods/hybrids, Maltby KE4 Irons (all assembled by me so I can never blame my equipment).

UPS managed to drive me into a frothing hatred over the past couple days. I'd ordered a couple wedges from GigaGolf (Which I finally received. SGS 52* and 58* with wraps for 21 bucks each. I'm loving the 58*. At the moment, I don't feel like even thinking about another club from 50' in)...

Tracking showed them arriving in San Antonio 2:30am on Saturday. I thought there might be an outside chance of getting them Saturday, but no. Not a big deal. Weekend passes. Monday I'm thinking, "Yay! Club day!" No such luck. Come Tuesday, my last day off work, it seems I had the misfortune to decide to take a shower during the minute that UPS dude came to knock on my door.

I get the note, call UPS. UPS person tells me they can come back tomorrow between 8-6. I won't BE there, I observe. The sole option that fits into my schedule that remains is to drive across town to pick the package up myself between 8pm and 9pm. I won't get too long winded, but what part of the UPS Customer Service manual includes the phrase, "Well THAT isn't our problem. You can pick it up at this time or we can send it back to the vendor."?

Anyway, after driving all the way across San Antonio and getting lost multiple times, I find the UPS Warehouse. I've been in military bases with less enthusiastic security people. After my complimentary body cavity search, I finally received my wedges.

Currently in my bag:  Under Revision

I have definitely had many more problems with fedex than I have with ups. Fedex is late a lot more often and the delivery guy for my area isn't the smartest. I see him pull up to my apartment complex 3 separate times a day instead of getting rid of everything for the area at once.

    • I've played Bali Hai, Bear's Best and Painted Desert. I enjoyed Bali Hai the most--course was in great shape, friendly staff and got paired in a great group. Bear's Best greens were very fast, didn't hold the ball well (I normally have enough spin to stop the ball after 1-2 hops).  The sand was different on many holes. Some were even dark sand (recreation of holes from Hawaii). Unfortunately I was single and paired with a local "member" who only played the front 9.  We were stuck behind a slow 4-some who wouldn't let me through even when the local left. Painted Desert was decent, just a bit far from the Strip where we were staying.

    • Honestly, unless there's something about that rough there that makes it abnormally penal or a lost ball likely, this might be the play. I don't know how the mystrategy cone works, but per LSW, you don't use every shot for your shot zones. In that scatter plot, you have no balls in the bunker, and 1 in the penalty area. The median outcome seems to be a 50 yard pitch. Even if you aren't great from 50 yards, you're better off there than in a fairway bunker or the penalty area on the right of the fairway. It could also be a strategy you keep in your back pocket if you need to make up ground. Maybe this is a higher average score with driver, but better chance at a birdie. Maybe you are hitting your driver well and feel comfortable with letting one rip.  I get not wanting to wait and not wanting to endanger people on the tee, but in a tournament, I think I value playing for score more than waiting. I don't value that over hurting people, but you can always yell fore 😆 Only thing I would say is I'm not sure whether that cone is the best representation of the strategy (see my comment above about LSW's shot zones). To me, it looks like a 4 iron where you're aiming closer to the bunker might be the play. You have a lot of shots out to the right and only a few to the left. Obviously, I don't know where you are aiming (and this is a limitation of MyStrategy), but it seems like most of your 4 iron shots are right. You have 2 in the bunker but aiming a bit closer to the bunker won't bring more of your shots into the bunker. It does bring a few away from the penalty area on the right.  This could also depend on how severe the penalties are for missing the green. Do you need to be closer to avoid issues around the green?  It's not a bad strategy to hit 6 iron off the tee, be in the fairway, and have 150ish in. I'm probably overthinking this.
