I was playing golf yesterday and I was playing with a person I knew.
He plays off 8 and we did a flat matchplay.
I was 2 up going onto the 14th hole and then he hit 3 drives in a row into the trees and started shouting and then threw hit G10 driver into the trees.
I was thinking "wow, it's only a game"

Have any of you ever have a massive blow-out like that?

A few years ago I was playing at a short University course near me. I was a single and got paired with a couple other guys. One of them was just there to enjoy golf, but you would have thought the other guy thought he was a pro. If something wasn't right he swore. If he hit a bad shot, he swore.

Somewhere around hole 12 or 13 he hit a bad drive, and as we were walking up the fairway he breaks the club over his knee while yelling, "F*** you God!"

The other guy looked at him, and then me with a "I'm sorry" type look on his face.

I take my golf very seriously, but I'm not a good enough player to get angry to the point of throwing clubs. If I find myself #1 in the OWGR, I'll reconsider whether I'm good enough to get angry and throw clubs. Until then, I'm not good enough to react that way to a bad shot or bad round.

Sounds like both those a.h.'s deserved to have crappy rounds with that kind of attitude. I've tossed my 60 degree into the rough a few times but that club is evil, lol. I think we've all said a 4 letter word after a bad shot but kept it to ourselves without ruining perfectly nice stranger's rounds. I remember playing Riverstrand in Sarasota and this guy who thought he was a pro kept bitching at the starter for pairing certain groups in front of him. The starter chuckled and said "you'll be alright pal". I was like "thankyou!" I hate playing with people that have no respect for the game, themselves or other players.

I never swear or do anything to show my anger when I play with other people. Out of complete respect. If I am playing with my buddies I swear but usually keep it somewhat quiet and not a huge deal. Luckly I've never had anyone bad like that. I've just had a few people that would slam thier club into the ground or lob their club back toward the cart instead of walking it. Nothing bad.

Oh man, I've seen this many times... One instance that immediately comes to mind was back years ago in high school... Dude hacked up the last two holes and just lost it... He signed his fellow competitor's scorecard then picked his bag up over his head, spun around a couple of times, then slammed his bag to the ground and started kicking it and cussing... This was in front of a lot of other teams coaches and a couple of college coaches... It was embarrassing to watch... Several of my friends were standing there watching it and we finally started laughing at the guy... Not sure what that dude was thinking but he sure looked like a jackass... It's tough to be paired with a person like that

A few lads i play with get really agitated when they hit a bad shot. One of them just gouges his putter into the green, and I just repair it right in front of him and he's too angry, or embarrassed to say thanks. Another guy i played with yesterday was getting annoyed too. He's just one of those guys who plays off 20, and thinks he is a lot better than he is, and so he expects more. He just chucked his clubs about when he hit a bad shot...

I try NOT to swear, curse or overreact emotionally because if I do get to wound up I am mentally fried for the rest of the round. A bad shot is a bad shot, so I try not to make it 5 or 10 bad shots by throwing a tantrum.

I used to get real out of wack back in highschool. Then I invented the doctrine of cool, that I adhere to 98% of the time. I will occasionally tell God what I think about his lack of blessing on a particular shot here and there, but for the most part...be cool.

I do love watching someone have a Woody Austin blow up...but not I.

Whenever I see someone having a temper tantrum (lasting longer than a couple expletives or a club dropped to the ground while holding an exaggerated tour pro finish pose) I think to myself, "Grow up!" and then I move on.

I play with a guy that will slice his drive in the woods on the second hole, get mad, slam his club, then go sit in the cart, write an 8 on the score card, and not speak to anyone the rest of the round. I can deal with a guy who has an occasional outburst, but keeps playing, and is still sociable, but its hard to enjoy your round with someone who does'nt speak to anyone(especially if your riding with him).

Last year I played with a guy in the second round of a county tournament. We were in the second to last foursome, which meant we were all in contention at the beginning of the day... but as the round moved along, we all blew up here or there and put ourselves OUT of contetion. When we got to the eighth hole... this moron started FLIPPING out when he pulled a tee shot and it kicked off a tree, all the way across the fairway... and into the woods on the other side. We all saw where his ball landed, so it was fairly easy to find. He took off real quickly up the cart path, leaving his cart partner back at the tee. We all knew the guy was a douche and would UNDOUBTEDLY attempt to improve his lie.

As he got about halfway there, a course ranger happened to step out of the woods and pointed to where his ball was. It was classic! The guy was LIVID because now there was NO WAY he could cheat. He slammed on the breaks, RIPPED an iron from his bag and STORMED to the ranger. We arrived at his cart and dropped off his cart partner, then we drove up to where he was. The ranger was called on his radio to assist with something elsewhere and said 'good luck' to the guy and headed away towards his ranger cart down the path.

The guys ball was sitting in a tough spot with a tree obstructing his backswing and the ball sitting ON a good sized rock in the ground. If he hit the ball, he WAS going to mark up his club. Now... earlier in the round, like the third hole or so, he told MY cart partner when his ball was sitting AGAINST a concrete wall (told ya we all blew up at some point) that it was a stroke play tournament and he HAD to play the ball as it was.

So he immediately starts bitching about how the course sucked and wasn't maintained well. He then tells us that his iron set is only a few weeks old and he doesn't want to mark up his clubs. He's basically pleading with us to improve his lie so he doesn't mark up his clubs. I removed myself from the situation immediately, telling him that by the rules, he wasn't allowed to move the ball without claiming it as unplayable and taking the appropriate penalty PLUS he was REAL quick to point that out earlier in the round. My cart partner said the same thing and pulled out his club that he scraped against the concrete wall earlier for emphasis. His cart partner tells him that if he chooses to move the ball it's an unplayable lie and he will need to accept the penalty.

We ALL watched as he ATTEMPTED to swing at the ball and whiffed. He THEN claimed it was unplayable and took his drop and penalty. It took him three more shots to reach the green and then two putts. By EVERYBODY'S calculation he should have scored an eight but he claimed a seven and said that when he whiffed, he was testing what kind of swing he would have. We ALL clearly watched him address the ball and then, as he swung the club, he closed his eyes and simply whiffed. The other three of us told him what we saw and he IMMEDIATELY flipped out. Told us we were all a******s and that we were full of s**t.

When we told him he was going to have to take the eight, he yanked his clubs from the cart and SLAMMED them against the cart path repeatedly. By this point, we were all wondering what the hell the guys deal was... but he just WOULDN'T calm down. After about 90 seconds of him cursing us out... he took his clubs and left. When we reached the turn a hole later, we had to explain why we were minus a player... but the tournament director said the guy had melted down in the past too, so he wasn't surprised.

In 18+ years or playing golf... it was pretty much the worst meltdown I'd seen. Luckily it didn't affect me because I sucked just as bad afterwards as I had prior, but... it WAS interesting.

Ahhh... the swearing, club throwing, and tearing up the course... the good old days! Ha! I remember regretting it every time after the round and how I would never do it again. Not sure what happened, but it was a couple of years ago that I just stopped caring so much and just decided to enjoy the round.... probably just lowered my expectations. Not that I don't get... "disappointed"... in myself from time to time, but it's usually just a little grumbling.

My worst blowup ever left me smiling more than anything. I was out playing with a friend, and he's damn good too. He had just bought a new set of clubs, and was having a bad day anyway. Still, this guy is good enough to go +2 through 9 on his bad days (we only played 9.)

Anyway, we get to this big par 5, and I said, "Man, I hate this drive." I proceeded to top 4 drivers in a row into the water right in front of us. I was just laughing by the time I hit the 4th. I ended up shooting 48 for the 9 with that little blowup. I doubt getting mad enough to yell or throw a club.

I haven't done THAT before, but when I have two or three bad shots in a row I don't get angry. I just don't care anymore for that hole. It is usually the next shot that is my best of the round...like a round I played in December.

Hooked my tee shot into a housing addition. Topped my next to the next tee box 15 yards up. Proceeded to putt 3 wood and not care. 297 yards later (downhill) my ball was left of the green. Knocked it into the sand trap. A sand shot and two putts later I made my 8.
