Hey guy's,

I golfed about 14-18 times over the summer last year. This year I would like to get out there and golf a bit more and improve on my game. I only have one golf buddy to go but due to his family he can't go as often as I would like to. I am 24 and no kids or girlfriend right now and he also doesn't always like playing the courses where you spend $50+ or more for 18 holes. I enjoy playing the hard courses they are more professional and you get more of a challenge from them. I am off by 4pm so getting in 9 or or just about 18 wouldn't be a problem.

I never have really gone to the course and golfed alone If I want to golf more this is what I will have to do. Is it very common to go to the course as a single? Don't want to be the course loner lol.

Cheers

Of course, playing as a single is very common. I go to the course as a single almost exclusively due to last minute rounds. You're not able to make a tee time but they'll get you out paired up with others. Depending on the course you could get out alone but most of the time you'll end up with some playing partners.

Its a good way to meet more golf partners, especially ringers for scrambles.

I think you haven't really played the game until you walk out on to a tee at a strange course with people you don't know and put your skills to the test.
I never visit a new course with anyone I know. As a walk on single, golf is so interesting.

It ain't bragging if you can do it.

I go alone about 90% of the time. hate getting paired up with people when im tryin to work on my game. when you ride you can get back and play more than 9 holes due to hitting two balls off the tee pick the worst drive then hitting three irons into the green only putt the farthest away tho it will make you better. no worst feeling being a single and having a foursome waive you around and hit 2 balls ob trying to rush.

Going solo is great, and one of the best ways to improve your game because you can learn different things just by playing with different people each time and it's a good way to make friends at your local course

I'll never forget playing in this foursome with 3 guys all over the age of 75+, each of them could drive the ball about 20 to 30 yards farther than I could, by the 8th hole I finally figured out what I was doing wrong, I noticed they had the swing speed of an infant which kept them in the fairway and straight as an arrow, so from that 8th hole on I slowed my swing speed down and gained more distance and hit more fairways, still works to this day for me =)

Hey guy's,

To be very honest with you I do not understand your problem at all. I mean, pairing up is what golf as a social sport is all about! Sometimes one gets to play with a person not much to one's liking but most of the time people are just great. If you're afraid to be alone on the course juts point this out to the caddiemaster and you will surely be paired up with someone.

Wanting to play alone is another story. If I want to do that I choose the time appropriately, i.e. start 5.30 or 6 am or 7.30 or 8 pm. Especially those morning rounds are most enjoyable with sun rising, morning dew on the greens and fairways, small birds chirping and ducks wandering aroung the ruffs and fairways looking for food.

For me it is! 99% of the time, I play solo... and am usually bitched at by ••••••• four-balls who want to play through, simply because the slow and selfish foursome in front of me never invite me to play through. Playing solo can be tough, because even though Golf is the ideal single persons' sport, it's pretty much a clique-hive at most clubs.

I dont know... if you are going to go play single, obviously you are going to be much faster than a group. But you are the exception and are not entitled to play through every group that is ahead of you. Granted if there is no one ahead of my group, play through. But if you are just going to get stuck behind the next foursome, you can wait behind me.

Awards, Achievements, and Accolades

I go to the course by myself 3 - 4 times a week. My weekend rounds are the casual rounds with friends. it's definitely not uncommon to walk on as a single. Over here if you're at the course around 2/3...you can get out by yourself...and on scorching hot days...like 100+, the courses are straight empty.

I never mind going out as a single. Our munis get so much traffic that you're guaranteed to get paired up with two or three others if you tee off before 1:00 any day of the week. Met some really great people and have expanded my golf network to the point that I can always find a match/round when I want one.

I love to go as a single. When you play alone it gives you some good peace and quiet and you get to meet new people. I played yesterday, walked on as a single and joined a group from out of town. We had a great round and a few beers after in the clubhouse. I find I challenge myself a bit more when I play with strangers as well.

My only problem with golf is that I am usually standing too close to the ball............ after I hit it.

I enjoy going to the course alone and usually you get pair with very nice guys and the experience is fine. What you have to be perpared for is players you are not too familiar with who may begin to move while your putting or talking while you are hitting, other then that the experience has always been pretty good, beside you appreciate your friends when you play with them the next time.

As previously pointed out, it's not uncommon to head up to the course alone.

I acutally think it helps to play alone. It lets you focus on your game. I played solo for the first time on Friday and got a new low 18 hole score beating my previous one by five strokes. 85 --> 80

Career Bests:

9 Holes--37 @ The Fairways at Arrowhead-Front(+2)

18 Holes--80 @ Carroll Meadows Golf Course(+9)

Home Course:

1) The Fairways at Arrowhead

2) Mayfair Country Club

I often go alone, but many times I end up playing with others getting ready to tee off. I've made some of my favourite golf buddies by showing up at the course alone, and now have a nice list of friends who love to play, so im seldom alone, and I know most of the people from both clubs I play from mens night/clubhouse functions/etc.

So, get out there alone, meet people, and enjoy yourself.

I absolutly hate when that happens! On a few occasions I had caught up with a foursome while playing by myself, and on every occasion they asked me are you SURE you don't want to play thru. I wasn't hitting up on them either, I actually like sometimes just playing by myself and concentrating on every shot.....taking my time.....if i have to play thru them then I do feel rushed and out of sync for the rest of the round....

Maybe they don't enjoy playing ahead of you - it's unnerving playing in front of a single. Maybe they also like to concentrate on every shot and not feel rushed. Some may even consider it rude to turn down an offer to play through, when you could obviously lose them in 1 hole. As a single, you should be able to blast past a foursome - even while taking your time.
