I have shot even for 9 holes, or even one over for 9 holes, but I want to see who all has shot -1 or better for 18 holes? What was your handicap when you did it? How hard was it?

I shot a 2 under 34 on the front nine once in high school. Then a 42 on the back. I know you said for 18 holes, but you may have few responses!

So my best 9 was 2 under. I was about the same HC as I am now.

I shot my best 9 when I shot my 77 2 weeks ago. 41 on the front, 36 on the back. I would be weak in the knees on the 18t hole if I knew my putt was for a -1.

I've done it twice this year. Once on 18 holes and once for 9 holes. They were both 1 under. I did shoot 2 under for 9 holes once last year.

Ive done it four or five times over 18 holes. Best being -2 at Colts Neck golf course in Jersey. The first two times i did it i did not have an official handicap, but the others i shot under par I was probably under 4. Ive shot under par for 9 holes numerous times.

Shot a -7, 65 a couple years ago for my only round sub 70 at Kearney Hill Golf Links. They've held Champions Tour, US Public Links (mens and womens) and a handful of other events there so it's no par 3 course.

Had more 70 and 71's than I can count. It wasn't very hard, but "hard" is different for different people. If I'm hitting the ball well, I'm upset if I'm not under par.

My goal is to get that good one day. Its taken me 10 months to go from a 19 to a 9, but I think it is going to take me a little longer to get to a 3.

I have shot level par for 9 holes on a medium difficulty course. This was when I felt I had a 14 handicap.

In any low rounds I've accomplised I often find that not bogeying holes has been far more relevant than birdies. I've never had an eagle and never had more than two birdies in a round.

So under par even for 9 holes would be very unlikely in my case.

shot a 34 (-1) a few weeks back on a easier course IMO... Now when I go out there I attack the course and if im not around even par im upset with the round. My highest round there the past few weeks was my 38(3+) today and that was because I got frustrated at the group in front of me not letting me play through and mentally lost focus... Was even after 5, Bogeyed 6 and doubled 7.

Best score on a championship style course from longest tees was a 79.... 43 on back which I played first and a 36 on the front. Ive scored under 80 a few more times but at easier courses...

I wont talk about my bad rounds however I have yet to have one bad blow up round this season

Shot -2, 70 last Friday at Harding Park for my first time ever breaking par for 18. Even though it was from the white tees, bout 6400 yrds, Shot 37 on the front and 33 on the back. Best nine hole score before that was in a junior tournament that was probably 8 years ago, went 42 on the front, -4, 32 on the back.

    • Welcome to TST @Camjr.   We're glad you've joined.
    • Angle is not a factor. I hit the ball 100’ high. Par is net birdie. My CH is 16. The rough between the bunkers is like 10’ wide though. That’s not something you’re going to try to hit on purpose. Most of the area to the left of that is fescue/native vegetation and I’m pretty sure there isn’t a flat lie in any of it. It’s the second hole.
    • Hello all.  I'm about to be 57 yrs old, started playing when I was 16, and have quit and restarted the game more times than I can count.  I had started playing a weekly round with a friend, and finally made the jump to Senior A shafted Tour Edge clubs.  Instantly gained 10 yds with an easier swing (why didn't I make that jump sooner???).  Glad to be a part of the group. Cheers all,
    • I think I like this hole.  It is a clear "Risk-Reward" choice.  Since most of the shots in your cone cleared the bunkers I would say they are a minor risk and not a big issue.  Playing the aggressive line may give you 70ish yards in from what looks to be playable rough while conservative play is 120ish from fairway.  I know you said 70 vs 120 is minor for you but how does the approach angle in impact your results?  I figure both strategies are playing for Birdie since holing out from either is mostly luck. Looking at your proximity hole I think it says @ 50 feet when hitting from the fairway from 100-150 and 40 feet if hitting 50-100 from the rough.  Neither of those is an easy birdie putt.   I like the approach angle from the rough between the bunkers & the adjacent tees over the angle from @ 120 in the fairway but I really do not like the idea of hitting onto the adjacent tee boxes and that may impact my confidence with making the shot.  Also, too far left may be a worse approach angle then from the fairway short of the bunkers. For me this may come down to how confident do I feel when I reach that tee box.  If I am stroking it well off the tee leading up to the hole I would try for over the bunkers and the better angle in but if I am struggling that day I would likely opt for the fairway to take more bad stuff out of play.
