So shot a 39 on the front today, had a swing epiphany last week and well i'm striking the ball great right now and always getting my weight forward.
But say around the 13th hole i lose interest and start going OB off the Tee, then making stupid club decisions, stopped my pre shot routine, stopped walking my reads etc etc
i just get bored and stop paying attention
anyone got a remedy? besides adderall

Nobody concentrates at the same intensity for 4.5 hours straight, it would just sap the strength out of you well before the round would be done. Watch the pros, as soon as they step up to address their ball or begin their setup routine, they switch their their mind to fully concentrate on that task at hand and maintain it till their golf shot is complete. Then they shut it down till the next shot giving their gray matter a rest.

As far as getting bored, I can't help you there. When my kids were younger (20s now) they would lose interest and get bored. So I figured they weren't old enough (ready enough) to appreciate the activity so I would shelve it for a later time. I didn't appreciate golf until I was in my 30s and didn't start playing until I was in my mid 40s.

Try a different sport?

That is the way to do it, enjoy the walk the rest of the time.

Your choice of words is very interesting. If golf becomes "boring" to you in the middle of a round, perhaps this really isn't the game for you?

As the other posters have said you don't! The trick is to be able to "turn it on" when you need to.

What works for me is a trigger at the start of my pre shot routine that "turns it on". Bascially I tap the groud twice with the club head.... from then on its max concerntraition until the ball is in the air..... then relax... smell the roses... crack some jokes... enjoy the round until the double tap again...

I dont know about this. Are you playing with other people because the game is much better when you are not alone all the time.

Just don't think about golf between shots. Think about other stuff, then turn it on as you near the ball.

Definitely helps when you are playing with good friends. I took the day off yesterday and played with two of my uncles and one of their son-in-laws that is my age and it's always a blast. The competition and joking around and everything is so much fun that if there weren't numbers on the holes we would just keep playing til it was dark.

I don't concentrate for 4.5 hours, you just have to learn how to shut it off and on at will. It takes a bit of training to do so. Alot of it comes from a routine on each shot.

A few little things i try to do, indicate when i need to start concentrating. I take my glove off in between shots, because it makes the glove last longer, but i have found this tactic to serve 2 purposes.
I stand behind my ball, and put my glove on whilst looking at the target.
As soon as the glove is on, i won't say a word, and won't think about anything else.
I take a few breaths, and hit my shot.
I take a look at the result, then take my glove off.
I can then go back to relax mode.

It does get harder to focus the longer you play. But in between shots just relax and talk about something else maybe, then when you address the ball, imagine where you want it to go and focus solely on what you're doing.

I think about my lovely wife who is home cooking, cleaning and taking care of my children while preparing to wait on me hand and foot.

...so in other words, I fantasize unrealistically.

I dunno, how do you concentrate for 6 hours?

Yeah i was golfing with good friends last night it just got boring cause it was so late. Maybe i was just tired i dunno
Could have been we had a late tee time and the round was dragging, we had no chance of losing the match
Maybe i'll just learn to turn it off and on and rely on my pre shot routine a little more.

This isn't surprising. By the time you've reached the 13th or 14th hole, you've been on the course for about three hours, in the heat, thinking, walking, swinging, and you're not at your mental or physical peak. A letdown at this point in the round is quite understandable. But since you know it's coming, you can prevent it.

Check your hydration and nutrition. Take a sip of an electrolyte drink on each tee. Have a small snack every three or four holes to keep your blood sugar up. What is your overall level of physical conditioning? Is 13 holes all it takes to do you in? Keep your concentration fresh by letting go of the shots you have hit and not thinking of any shot coming up except the next one. When you get to the point in the round where you normally give up, be extra alert and concentrate through it.

    • Day 133 (25 Apr 24) - Worked with the Divot Board today added a piece of cardboad behind the ball to help reinforce ball first contact. Contact improved through the round.   Added grandson's football goal posts about 10yds out to add a good start line visual Good session today.
    • Day 120: 4/25/24 Full Speed Spectrum training session. Low energy today and my speed was lower than normal. Will see what I can do on Saturday.
    • Day 541, April 25, 2024 Ten minutes after lessons. Still not caught up, but should be by tomorrow evening.
    • Playing irons only may lead to some short-term gains, but you'll want to at least practice with the driver if you ultimately have some decently good goals.
    • He plays from 68.3 / 124.  A combo tee setup of normal mens and seniors.   I play from 69.7/127.   He left after taking a triple on 14 and then leaving.  Which plays to what I think his plan is,   He doesn’t stroke on 14 but would have to take bogey for non completed holes on the way in.   Maybe that’s giving him too much credit, but he found a way to add 4 shots to his score over three holes so….     I looked up his last 20 rounds in GHIN and he has a lot of rounds at easier courses (rating and slope) that are higher than his normal rounds at home.   Since I mostly have his front nine score during the match (36) to go on, he has three nine hole scores at our course posted that are 41-43. I wrote the whole thing up to the head of our golf association who runs all the tournaments.  Our pro is not involved officially in the tournaments because the golf associations are separate from the club.   He’s pretty well known for this, however I was pretty shocked at how well he played carrying a 15.   I think eventually they will do something, a lot of people have complained.  The golf association threw someone out a couple of years ago and it was a three month situation where the guy retaliated.  They probably are hesitant to go thru anything like that again.  That is a rather crazy story I might post about later.
