Hey all, I'm in the market for a new putter since my old White Hot has been through too much over the past 8 years. I have a chance to get a mint condition Scotty Cameron Futura putter for only $50. I don't like the look of the club at all, but $50 for a Scotty in mint condition seems hard to pass up. I could spend more and get a Studio Select Newport 2 that's only been used a few times for $115, but I'm on a pretty tight budget at the moment.

Anyone out there have any experiences with the futura?

There are more than 1 model of the futura, but they all are too weird looking for me, and I own a kombi. Id pass on it, and get that newport, but it is by all preference, just make sure they are authentic. Ill be buying a Circa 62 #2/3 soon, hopefully Ill be patient enough to wait for a good price.lol

IMHO the ugliest putter ever made. If you liked it it would be a good buy. But you don't like it.

Just because it's a "Scotty" means nothing. It's no better or worse quality wise than any other well known make. Get one that suits your eye. There is nothing special about a mass produced putter like tyhe Futura. There is something seriously amiss when someone considers buying a club they don't like because of the brand name.

In the race of life, always back self-interest. At least you know it's trying.

I'm a Cameron Guy... But would not encourage anyone to buy a putter they do not like the look of at address. Period.

The Futura is probably cheap because nobody like it.

Seriously though, I would buy a putter I like, both in looks and performance. Being the owner of a Newport 2, I would of course get the Newport for $115. Shouldn't take too much work to gather up $65.

Awards, Achievements, and Accolades

i had a futura, (the silver one wiht the red lines on it and the semi circle on the back) and putted lights out for a solid 4 months with it. then one day i picked up a normal putter and realized, "Wow, this thing is ugly." i proceeded to shoot a 43 that day and bought a circa 62 #1 the next day.

Forget the Futura, unless you like the looks of it. I once owned a Newport 2 oilcan that I wish I'd never sold, so I'd have no problem buying a studio select Newport for $115. That's a pretty reasonably price for one provided you like the looks and can putt well with it.

Thanks for the help guys, looks like I'll spend a bit more and get the Newport. Pretty excited to get a new putter, I loved my Odyssey White Hot #1 for a long time..but it's pretty beaten up.

Guess im the only one that will sing praises for the futura but I have one, have had one for years, and absolutely love it. Mine is the one with the three small holes going back and the semi-circular detached weight. It came out right before the phantoms did I believe. It is by far my favorite putter and I have no problem looking at it at address. Do I like the look of a traditional putter better? Yes, the studio series I think is one of the best ive ever seen! Does the added stuff on the back help my putts? Yes!! Am I more consistent with the futura? Double yes, so there it is, Ill take the club that might not look QUITE as good, but helps me to shoot better!

Why not try it out. For that price, it's a steal. SandTrapper is proof that you don't have to like the look of it to putt well with it. I'm sure if you didn't like it, you could sell it yourself (and probably come out ahead).

I actually did just that, I called the man the other day and he said it was still available and people have been offering him $30 for it. I took it for $50 since they are going on eBay for around $100, the man put a really wide winn grip on it..which feels strange to me. I'm going to try it out and if it stinks then I'll just list it on eBay. I tried it out on the putting green and didn't think much of it, definitely like my Newport better but not going to sell the futura just yet. The guy straight up told me "I used this putter for two rounds and hated it, give it a go and if you don't like it then just sell it."

Anyone use those large sized grips for putters? I could see possibly liking it, but not used to it at all.

i use a fiarly large grip on my putters... teh equivalent of an "oversize" grip on an iron..none of the superstroke crap... i always thought the slightly larger grip feelds better.

Dont ditch the futura yet.. they are great putters, once i went left hand low with mine i was lights out for a while. Just experiment with it. And if your only going to make 70 or so bucks off selling it, hang on to it, it never hurts to have another scotty in the closet when your gamer acts up!

My good friend has one and he's a great putter. I tried it a few times and it has one the softest feeling putting faces that I can remember, softer than my Newport 2. $50 is a good to fair price on the futura. Below is a link to sold futuras on ebay.

I just put the Futura Mid (41.5) in the bag.  I like how it looks and how easy it is to line up. Definitely off the beaten path for a SC, but way ahead of its time for 2003-4 compared to some of the mallets out recently from Odyssey and TM. Very Jetson's.

If for some reason you want to sell it I will buy it as mine broke and am looking for another.  I can put a new grip on it. send me a photo or contact me. Let me know what you would want for it.

    • Day 56: 4/19/2024 Okay, even though I'll be teeing it up in a tournament in less than a week. I couldn't find time to get to the range today.  I spent time on the indoor putting mat.  And I spent time in front of the mirror with my 7 iron. Then again later with the driver.  I also thoroughly cleaned all my clubs.
