I guess you think that you are getting away with cheating, but you are not. When you hit your ball OB or in a hazard and you magically find it, we notice. You may notice that we are eager to help you find your lost ball, but you never know what you were playing, and of course you are the person who finds your ball – nowhere near where it went. Yet when we ask you “are you sure that is ball is yours?” you are always adamant that it is yours. Have you also noticed that people now make appoint of declaring the ball they are playing for the round and how it is marked? Did you know they do this so you will declare the ball you are playing?

Ever wonder why you have trouble getting a game? Or why you are never asked to represent the club in interclub matches?

I guess what you don’t know is we all know you cheat, and now you have a rather acidic reputation. Your cheating is often the topic in the club house. In tournaments it not unusual for member to call or email whoever you got paired with to warn them to watch you closely because you cheat. Of course it hard to play your own game and be a police man for a cheater like you, so no one wants to get stuck playing in your group. I hope that $6 or sleeve of balls you won is worth it.

You think the fact that people have questioned you would make you stop, but I guess we will have to find away to prove beyond a shadow of doubt that you are a cheater. We are working on this……

This is for not one guy, but for anyone who cheats and thinks they are "getting away" with it.

In my case i have three guys in mind, two I have never even played with.

Sounds like one of my regular partners, best one is we finish the hole and I know he shot a least a double or triple bogey if not worse and his score always seems to be 1 worse than mine Not to mention the 10 or so mulligans, the score he "deserves" aka well I shot a 6 but I played well enough to shoot a 5 so I am taking a 5 (not joking this happens every round!). I stopped caring but what I did do what start to mark mulligans then when I add the score in the end I add in the mulligans and give him his "score" and his real score to lay in the guilt.

A guy I played with would have a hole where he would hit trees, lose a ball in the rough, top one ect. anf then not count those strokes but would put an asteric by his score to "remind" him to count them later. He never did, but had no problem telling me he beat me by a stroke. God I hated that!

Yeah, but even that's not his *real* score. Let's say he shoots one in a bad spot and takes a mulligan. If you only count that as one stroke then you're assuming he could hit a decent shot from where his original shot landed. Usually mistakes compound mistakes so only counting the mulligans is still giving him a significant discount.

Even if you're not playing for anything, cheating at golf is lame. Why not just say "I got a 7 on that hole"? Or how about "Give me an X because I took some mulligans"? And cheating when you ARE playing to win (even just for bragging rights) is very low. I mean, how lame would your life have to be so you'd need to cheat at golf with your buddies? Maybe we should just feel sorry for the guy.

I am not that worried about him /them that much as I rarely have played with these guys. I guess I posted this as i don't think cheaters realize that they aren't getting away with it. People notice and word spreads fast. It just never worth cheating, particularly in small private club like ours.

One of our members did get caught and was suspended for 2 years. When you consider it was $25K for him to the join the club, not be able to play golf for two years and still being charged your monthly dues should be one hell of deterent.

    • this topic brought to mind one my favorite golf-spectator memories. Back when, living in Santa Barbara CA, parked in my yellow cab just behind the 10th tee  (c. 380 yard par 4) at SB Muni golf course while eating lunch. A twosome comes by, and first up is this fat little mexican guy who takes a kinda squirelly practice swing, then addresses the ball and bashes a long, high, perfectly straight drive up to w/in about 5 yards of the green. Other guy is dressed to the 9's, pulls out what looks like a $300 driver....and hits a maybe 150-yard pop fly. Slams clubhead to the ground and yells, "it's fat! It's fat! Everything is fat today!!"  And that's how I learned what a "fat" shot is.

    • It may not be surprising that in the previous 7,064 posts, this particular point has been discussed. To which I will counter: If we're talking about results, why only the majors? Unless you know something that I don't, neither of us are in any position to judge whether Woods or Nicklaus lived their overall life better, not that such a thing is even objectively measurable, nor is it relevant to the discussion.
