So Ive got a 165 dollar gift card for Dicks sporting goods and since they dont have any pants to choose from really I was thinking of picking up a 60* wedge. They are able to order different brands and I asked them about mizuno and was told they can only order the brand new mp-t11 which has conforming grooves . Dont really want conforming grooves. I wanted a forged one but Im not so sure now, which do you guys recommend? I know I want one with like the c grind on the bottom

Theres been a lot of Cleveland CG12's on sale around where I live for like $69. I used to have a CG12 for my 52* until it got stolen but its a great great wedge.

For my 60* however, I use the Callaway X-tour that I bought for ridiculously cheap but its worked out for me very well. I have a lot of confidence in this little 60*, though i use it maybe once every other round.

yea, I kind of want a forged wedge though. do you think the mpt11 would be a bad idea because of the grooves?

I doubt that you'll even know the difference. The only club left in my bag with the old grooves is my SW. My 51° AP-2 has the new grooves and it's my go to club around the green. If the time comes for me to change out the SW, I'll be specifically looking for one with new grooves, just to prove that the grooves don't matter. I've been playing irons with 2010 grooves for 2 years now with no change in my handicap. The grooves have had no effect at all in how I score or in the type of shots I play. The only possible difference is that I play for a bit more roll on full approach shots from the rough, but even that isn't usually very significant.

I wouldnt worry about grooves so much. The weighting, balance and headshape are my top criteria in choosing a wedge. IMO....a lob wedge is a finess club. The weighting and balance has to feel good to you. I like Vokey's because they seem heavier than most wedges (not saying they are...just saying to me they feel like it).

What I Play:

Driver: R9 460
4 Wood: G15

Hy: Callaway FT 3Hy

Irons: AP1 4-PW

Wedges: Vokey 52* & 60*, Mizuno MP-T 10 58*

Putter: Newport Studio Select 2.7

Ball: Nike One Vapor

From the fairway there is no real difference between the old an new grooves, only from the rough there is a little more chance for a flyer.

yea I had the ap2's for awhile with the new grooves, v grooves. They were definitly alot easier to keep clean as the dirt comes right out of the grooves. I also didnt notice any difference with the new grooves when playing, just didnt know if it would be a little different with wedge shots. I might just get the mp-t 11, its not like I play shots that chuck back anyway and it might be nice to have a little roll on my shots around the greens.

I just dont know if I want the DG spinner shaft that comes stock or just go with the basic DG wedge shaft. The spinner shaft looks weird

... I was thinking of picking up a 60* wedge. ...

I have seen Callaway X-Forged wedges on sale here and there for about $70. Usually quite a few lob wedges with mix of C-grind and standard soles, all with MacDaddy grooves.

Will you really notice the difference between the two grooves? I have 2010 grooved irons and haven't noticed that big of a difference between the two grooves or the release on the green. Even when I hit the rough, I have experienced a flier twice so far, both times from very wet rough and both times playing for it.
It might be that with the wedges you'll notice it a little more but it shouldn't be a huge difference, definitely not from the fairway.

andef,

I was just listing the technical specs. A few weeks ago someone suggested the supergrooves don't do much good unless you have a driver clubhead speed of 100+ mph. So, you have support for your idea.

BTW, I've run into a couple of strong hitters who don't like the supergrooves, because the ball spins back too much for them. (I rarely have that problem)

well I ordered the Mizuno mp-t 11 60/05 degree wedge since I had a gift card at Dicks sporting goods. It looks like a pretty sweet wedge. Ive read good reviews and alot of pros are using the spinner shaft that comes stock on it so I went with it.

thanks for the info.yea I think golf galaxy may take it, Would have to call them to make sure but Ive already spent it on the mp-t 11. The mp-t 10 has the old grooves that is appealing, but the mp-t 11 looks pretty sweet so I would like to have it over the t 10.

    • Yea Club Rat said it. I really enjoyed the Senator and the Judge, then over to Grand National where there a couple good courses plus a fun par 3. The one I do play whenever I visit there is Ross Bridge; something about this course that is just good fun. I hope to play more of the courses in the future, but tomorrow is promised to no one, so hope is the key word. Have Fun, iSank

I couldn't find time to get to the range today.  I spent time on the indoor putting mat.  And I spent time in front of the mirror with my 7 iron. Then again later with the driver.  I also thoroughly cleaned all my clubs.
