The season is well underway and thought it would be interesting to discuss some of the teams. Notable things to me:

Geez the Bengals just really suck. (my team) What a disappointment. You should hear all the excuses coming from pro-Bengals media. They first talked about how TO was just learning the system and this and that. Palmer isn't getting it done consistantly, Ochostinco is one of the worst receivers in league. How do you run the wrong routes and unwilling to take a hit. TO is by far the best player and he probably will not return. The fact is the problems are the coaches and lack of GM. If people aren't performing, cut em. Send a message. There play calling on D is predictable, they just look really bad at critical times in the game.

Vick looks great. I watched that game and just came away impressed. I'd trade for a dog killin winner anyday. I love dogs but I love having a winning team to cheer for. The defense is great too, just fast attacking, really strong.

I like Indy alot. They have been killed by people being hurt but plug in people and they perform. Manning is a true leader and makes the throws and right calls.

Saints are really good, Steelers are super strong (Sh*t)

Overall the peridy in the NFL is great. It is fun to watch.

Please chime in with thoughts or comments.

Brian

Patriots?

I mean their loss to Cleveland almost made me throw a 9 iron through my TV but with only two losses they are still tied for the best record in the NFL (albeit with 5 other teams). Their biggest weakness is inconsistency. They'll go a game or two where the defense looks like it could be the best in the NFL, then the next game they give up 34 to Colt McCoy. Their offense will be pretty good as long as #12 is under center and, as bad as they have looked at times, they are 2nd in the league in points scored.

I'm not saying they'll win it all hands down conversation over, but they have to at least be in the discussion.

Oh, and what is up with ESPN's love affair with the Cowboys? Did anyone outside of Texas and Bristol, CT, really think they were a top team?

I am pleasantly surprised with my Buccaneers this season. They are 5-3. Two of those losses came to teams that are 6-2 (Steelers and Falcons) and the other loss was to the defending Super Bowl champion Saints... who happen to be 6-3. Not bad for a team that looked destined to go 0-16 for the second time in the team's history just a season ago. I have to admit, I was not on the Raheem Morris bandwagon when he was hired. I thought that they should have tried to get Shanahan - which I am thankful they didn't because it looks like the game has passed him by - or some other "big name" coach, but I'm starting to see the wisdom of the hire. They look like they are playing with much more composure as of late. I admit, I was a little disappointed that they didn't let Josh Freeman throw the ball at the end of the game on Sunday. If he had, we might be sitting at 6-2.

The Cowboys? ROTFLMAO! I didn't think they were an elite team, but I sure as hell didn't have them pegged at 1-7. I blame Jerry Jones. First off, the whole "playing in the Super Bowl we're hosting" thing put an additional amount of pressure on the team that certainly didn't help matters. Second, his ego in general simply will not allow coaches - be they NFL retreads like Phillips or Hall of Famers like Parcells - do their job. T.O. and Moss may be cancers in the locker room, but this guy is a cancer in the front office - sort of like brain cancer - and it affects how the entire organization is run from the top down.

That was a flat out Brutal game. Gronk had 2 Huge mistakes that sucked the life out of the pats each time. Although I head Felger saying that on the dropped fair catch Gronk was called off teh ball at the last second by Sammy Morris. Thats why he got out of the way of it. The drop near endzone wasnt as bad at least he was making a good effort and hes young but you just have to hold on to that ball for dear life when near the goal line like that Chalk it up as a rookie mistake. Hopefully the D can play up to the steelers level this week, they seem to get up for certain games and lay down for others.

Lots of good but not great teams this year....hope the Saints can keep playing like they have the past 2 weeks, since some key parts are getting healthy (i.e. Sharper, Porter, Reggie). Since I live here, I'll speak on the Cowgirls. Don't think they'll hire a big name like a Cowher or Gruden, but here's an interesting resume they maybe could look at:

-nat'l title winner w/ current top 10 team
-4 & 1 bowl record with current team
-former Cowgirl assistant
-known risktaker

I'll let you guys guess the name.....

Does he eat grass? That could be a problem with the artificial surface in the new Cowboys Stadium.

Steelers are perhaps one of the most over-rated teams in the NFL this year.

How do you figure they are over-rated? They were 3-1 while playing with 3rd string qb's to start the season. The teams they have played have a combined 37-28 record. They have played 3 teams that are currently division leaders, winning 2 of them. They are #4 in overall D and #1 in rushing D by a wide margin. And they have mostly played rush first teams.

The Lions are a good team despite their record.

How do you figure they are over-rated?

Because Bruce Arians is a dumbass. Because Dick Lebeau is over-rated. Their offensive line is beat up, and Aaron Smith is out

again on defense. Here's a sad stat: of the 123 points the Steelers have allowed this year, 63 have come in the fourth quarter. That's not winning football - that's prevent defense and the other teams figuring out how easy it is to beat the Steelers, but it's too little, too late. They're 6-2, but they were picked apart by the Saints and Brees didn't even have to do much. Records don't mean everything. They're vastly over-rated. Tom Brady may very well throw for more yards than your home course's longest par four this week against the Steelers. They barely beat Cinci - a badly underthrown ball by Randle-El that should have been INTed went instead for a TD, and they gifted the Steelers a TD on the first drive of the game by fumbling the opening kickoff. Even with those the Bengals were a held catch away from winning it at the end of regulation.

If it was that easy to beat the Steelers, everybody would be doing it. I agree the loss of Smith will hurt. Dick Lebeaua over-rated? You aren't a top D coordinator for as long as he has while being over-rated. Brees picks apart everybody. He is very good and has to be since they don't have a run game. Records are important. Good teams win football games and close ones at that. All games are tough in the NFL. It isn't everyday that someone gets blown up like Dallas did. Brady won't top 350 this week.

I didn't say beating them was easy - I said they're over-rated. People are talking about them as a top-two team in the league. They're on the fringe of top five or six in the NFL and aren't in the top two in the AFC.

Dick Lebeaua over-rated? You aren't a top D coordinator for as long as he has while being over-rated.

So your response is to just throw out cliches. Great.

Records are important.

And I never said otherwise. I simply said they don't tell the whole story.

Good teams win football games and close ones at that.

Great teams close teams out and don't let them come storming back in the fourth quarter. Great teams don't NEED to rely on the poor play or poor luck of other teams like the lowly Bungles to barely beat them.

Brady won't top 350 this week.

Wow, the longest par four at your home course is pretty short!

P.S. Their run defense is really quite good. Their pass defense is terrible.

The bengals really should have won that game yesterday. To fumble the opening kick off and then have a punt block on the next possession is just bad football on the bungals. The saints really ate them up a few weeks ago. They were more physical and I thought just the better team.

The NFL is great this year. I love the sunday night game (well except this week). I can't stand the new rules about hitting players. That is what makes the NFL great. It is a dangerous game and without that danger it should be called the LNFL.

I'm happy the Rams are relavent again. At 4-4, they're got a real chance of winning a weak division and making the playoffs for the first time since 2004.

Great teams find ways to win close games. And the Steelers do that well and did that well in thier 2 recent superbowl seasons. You think the Bungles are lowly, but even the lowly teams can compete. As they say, "any given sunday".

Wow, the longest par four at your home course is pretty short!

That is what happens when you play from the ladies tees! No need for going with the longest par 4 when he won't even exceed the shortest.

I guess we will agree to disagree on the Steelers. I wouldn't mind seeing an all Pennsylvania superbowl though.

New England and Indianapolis to start. Again, I didn't say they were bad or even average, just over-rated.

If you don't think records are important, Pittsburgh started 6-2 last year, too. How'd they do in the playoffs? Oh, right, they didn't make 'em.
Great teams find ways to win close games.

Oh come on. The Steelers are making close games out of games that should be blowouts. Big difference between a closely contested game that they win and a game that they should have had in hand at the half that they manage to make close at the end. 63 of their 123 points allowed have come in the fourth quarter. That directly speaks to what I'm talking about - they're making close games out of games they should win easily.

You think the Bungles are lowly, but even the lowly teams can compete. As they say, "any given sunday".

You're just throwing out cliches. The Bengals did not have their "A" game and the Steelers played their typical game, not their D game, so "any given Sunday" doesn't apply. To the past two Browns games, yes, it probably applies. That was a combination of a poor team playing well and a good team playing really poorly.

I guess we will agree to disagree on the Steelers.

Fine by me.

I'm not buying that New England is better at this point after the drubbing they took at Cleveland. The loss of Moss will be big down the stretch for them. And they are one dimensional. Indy is too banged up at the current moment to be considered better at this time. Talk about the injury bug.

    • The dreaded 6 o'clock shadow. 🤣
    • 47+49 for a 96. Just lost it today. Two way miss off the tee. Could not hit a decent iron. Three putted like at least 8 holes. Not good when the short game is the best part of the day 😭😭
    • Phillyk is very close by. Ok, I understand how the watch and tags are meant to be used, but I was just curious how it actually works. I can't really think of any other way than what I mentioned above. No worries. If it works it works. I'll probably pick one up. My co-worker mentioned a free app called 18 Birdies which offers similar services. However I personally do not like keeping my phone in my pocket while golfing, nor do I want to be clicking around on the phone while out on the course. I toss my phone in my bag and leave it there until I am done golfing. Tapping a club head to a watch seems wat more convenient.
    • Yes, but not always the case. IMHO, green speeds are a huge variable and can effect score variation from week to week or month to month significantly. Our own course that is running at about 8-9 depending on the week/day, can run up to 12 (no kidding) in peak months around certain event, and most like me score 3-4 shots higher on an average, missing a lot of 3-4 footers. There are any PCC adjustments that I am aware of. Have you every played their course? I am betting $20 you will find some answers if you haven't already.
