I think you should instead of doing a 3 and 5 wood do a 4 wood. Players with moderate swing speeds do not see the difference much between the 2 clubs. I have a Nike Sumo2 4 wood then go to 3 hybrid. as far as manufacturer. I would suggest the one I use because it a club I feel great and hit solid. A person. Adams makes great hybrids as well. I suggest going to Golfsmith and take a look at a bunch of them. good luck

Couldn't agree more.  Since acquiring my 17* Nickent 2H, my 3 wood and 5 wood have stayed in the garage.  The shorter shaft of the hybrids make them more versatile and easier to hit.  I might lose 20-30 yards using my 2H instead of the 3W, but it is way more forgiving.  I don't feel confident hitting a 3W except off the tee or a good level lie in the fairway.

I have the same 17* Nickent 3dx RC 2 hybrid that uttexas uses, and I also have an 18* Ping Rapture 2 hybrid, but I played my 17* Ping G15 4 Wood in my last (and only) round this season, and got on very well with the G15 4 wood.  Good distance, good trajectory, good forgiveness particularly off the deck.  The fairway wood/long hybrid decision is totally subjective, and you simply have to try out different options, ideally out on the course.  You need to consider your ability to hit a fairway wood vs hybrid, distance you need and want (and can get) from one over the other, etc.  Since I dropped my 3 wood, assuming my 4 wood hits farther than a comparable hybrid, if I can keep the 4 wood on or close to the fairway (which I seem to be able to do with the G15), that's going to get the nod for me.

As to the original question, I can vouch for how good the G15 4 wood is, and I've read recently that the K15 3 wood is even easier to hit than the G15 4 wood.  So that might be worth a look.

Golfsmith's Q4m hybrids are long and forgiving when matched with a shaft that suits your swing.  They can be built as woods or hybrids. Fantastic feel and easy to hit from tight lies.  Tom Wishon has several designs that also beat out the OEMs.  Alpha and sister component Silver Diamond have a lot to offer as well.  There's a world of golf outside the "major name brands" that most golfers are unaware of.

We need more clubfitters out here!

Go with a FW that is 17* loft or more(17* is a 4 wood) You will not have alot of choices, since a lot of manufacturers don't offer 4 woods in their line.

Adams is good, so are Ping's. An off the wall option that you may find easy to hit is the Nike SQ MachSpeed. I bought one when they first came out because it was the ONLY fairway wood that I could hit well, and consistently. I still have it (for sale) but I pull it out when my game starts going south. Try one out, you may be surprised.

In my Ogio bag.

Titleist 910D2 driver, Adams irons & hybrid, Callaway wedges & a Nike Method putter.

And a yellow ball.

I prefer the circa 2009 Adams hybrid-fairway wood A4 - it's easier to hit off the deck that a traditional FW & carries plenty far for me: http://cgi.ebay.com/ADAMS-A4-INSIGHT-TECH-FAIRWAY-GRAPHITE-3W-STIFF-RIGHT-/280662785912?pt=Golf_Clubs&hash;=item4158ce3f78
