Does Anybody Else Dislike Morgan Pressel?

Maybe it was her candor in ripping Michelle Wie for playing with the men, but for whatever reason, I find myself really rooting against Morgan Pressel. This weekend, she held the 36 hole lead and I enjoyed watching her melt down.

She still has yet to win, cries all the time, and those Callaway commercials that try to put her in the same class of golfer as Annika, Phil, and Arnie... blachhh.

Is it just me? Does this bother anybody else out there?

I think she just seems to have a horrible attitude and would be extremely unpleasant to be around. Spoiled little b!tch comes to mind, but not knowing her personally it wouldn't be fair for me to say that.

I do agree though, she just has something about her that comes off as not nice.

I have to disagree with you. One day during the summer, she was practicing at my club alone with her father/coach/other on the short game course and I approached her to sign a hat and she was nothing but kind and very nice. Now I understand that she was being allowed to use my club and it was probably in her best interest to be kind to the members, but she seemed very genuine to me.

I actually like her quite a bit. She is as cute as can be and has a great game.

OTH, I understand that she doesn't give off a warm vibe. She is just wound too tight. She seems very anxious about her performance and somewhat unsure of herself in interviews. That doesn't make her a bitch, however.

As for "ripping" Michelle, she really did nothing of the sort. She simply gave an honest answer (which an awful lot of other golfers seem to share) to a direct question. But no matter how she words it, it comes out as an attack on Michelle.

It would be great if Morgan had the competitive fire AND the happy-go-lucky, sparkling personality of Paula Creamer (my real favorite), but that's just not her.

She reminds me of a young Dottie Pepper. Womens biology seems wired to cry a little easier especially in response to anger. Many women cry when angry but few men do. In a few years as she becomes more comfortable and more polished we will miss her candor and unapologetic competiveneess.

I think she's had a lot to deal with at a young age. Losing her mother to cancer was certainly tough. Apparently her relationship to her father is suspect, as I believe she went to live with her grandfather after her mother's death. She's related to the tennis player Aaron Krickstein.

I think she's feisty and somewhat immature, but I'd cut her some slack.

She's got alot of fire in her belly. And she seems to have the same cry baby attitude as Tiger Woods (on the course) which I absolutely despise. She seems bitchy but she's just immature. As she matures she'll learn how to act and become a better person on and off the course.

I can see what you are saying, but. . . She is very young, wants it very bad, and has to watch Michelle being given everything she is working so hard to earn - then to top it off, the media reminds her about it.

Ask her about anything but Michelle and she probably will light up like a daisy!

couldn't agree with you more J.P. She is dealing with a lot of pressure. There was a recording a couple of months ago with Pressel and Leadbetter doing an instructional session for the golf channel. She was very shy but trusted her game to hit the shots. Its our viewings of situations like the one i am refering to that lets us see the real person. She has a little chip on her shoulder right now, but guess who else does TW. I feel that she has done the nice shy thing for too long and has seen minimal results. It's more or less just trying to trigger something within the body to reach or dig that little bit more to stay focused for 72 holes, not easy. She is a very good player, who is extremely fundamentally sound and once she wins her first, which will be sooner than later, she will express herself the way the positive statements in this thread discuss.

Odd. I feel the same way. She seems like a nice girl and a good player, but her ill advised comments about Wie cast her in a bad light. This is a good example of how these people with a "fan base" have to be careful what they say in public.

The same with Pat Perez. After his immature behavior when he first came on tour, I love little more than rooting for him to fail.

She is allowed to rip Wie. Morgan was won a major now. Wie hasn't won Butkis.

I wouldn't characterize Morgan's remarks about Wie as "ripping her"; to me Pressel was giving an objective answer to questions posed by reporters.

Her comments about Wie were understandable since she felt Wie had not earned her media attention and endorsements through her performance on the course. There is a difference between being a great player and a media darling. (Tiger just happens to be both. )

If Wie performs half as well as Morgan, Wie will probably always be more of a media darling. If Wie draws media attention, bigger crowds and more TV coverage for the LPGA, they will all get rich. Look what has happened to the PGA prize money since 1996!

Something about her grates on my nerves as well... I don't think I'll ever warm up to her.

    • Been a bit of delay in updates but I needed to come back east as my mom's health has taken a serious turn for the worse. In a 3 day span we learned she had a tumor to she has stage 4 cancer and stopped eating and drinking for the most part. She has had a rough 3 months but certainly didn't think we'd be at the point of setting up hospice for her. My mom was never into any sports really other than following the Red Sox because my dad was a big fan. She always cared about what we were involved in including asking about how golf went.  I have kept up with my 5 minutes of daily practice and will go to the gym here in NH tomorrow morning. Despite the somber nature of this trip my family has commented more than a few times about my weight loss so it's important to me to keep it up. I know my mom always wanted us happy in whatever we did so I'll continue with my fitness journey keeping that in mind.
    • Day 109- Putting drills on a putting green for 20 minutes.
    • Day 252: did a stack session. Did some slow rehearsal swings during breaks.
    • Day 82: 3/18/24 Tried a Stack session but could not certify my warmup. Finished with indoor chips and putting.
    • Day 96 (18 Mar 24) - Continued work with the Divot Board with the GW and hard foam balls.  Focused on small target/small miss…setup to hit target about 30yds out - success if it hit within 6’ circle of target, fail if outside.  Had decent success averaging about 3 out of 4 (hitting in groups of four).
