Online golf handicap

What's the best place to keep an online handicap?  Prefer as quick and easy as possible, and free, but willing to pay a small fee if it means I get a better result with less effort.

Not free, but the USGA districts service has advantages I think are well worth money ($35 a year with Chicago District Golf Association). Fees are included in my "membership" at my public home course. Sites differ by region. I'd bet Hawaii has a good site and services.

 

1. Peer review means others can view and confirm your handicap. Great for both keeping people honest and for getting scorecards ready before a round.

 

2. Shows that you have a real handicap. Needed for some events and most tournaments. "Needed" in my 4-some to play our fifty cents a point game.

 

3. Most all courses are linked in so that you can enter scores or print cards almost anywhere. I post almost all my scores on line. All district courses are in database with the correct and latest slope and course rating (by tee box) so input errors are less common.

 

4. Clearly states what scores are posted and which ones are not. May not be an issue for a guy in Hawaii but in areas with seasonal golf, it matters.

 

5. Keeps you records for years in a place you know will be around for years to come.

 

6. Supports the USGA.

That sounds like something worth paying for.  I'll check it out.  I was a USGA member for several years, but after many, many moves I have finally managed to beat the postal system.  (Kosmo would be proud.)

I need to sign up for the same thing. I moved to Socal in the summer of 2010 and haven't signed up with the local district. I've been keeping my handicap with Golfshot, but it's not a USGA recognized handicap. Although they use the same algorithm.

I use keepmygolfscore.com, which is very simple, free, and gives me a handicap.  Its not that good though.  I'm looking for a program that can track up and downs - number per round and percentage.  I looked at the website but didnt' see the feature at myscorecard.  Would happily pay for a program that can track up and down success.

I just paid $75 for a membership on click4teetimes.com which covers the Southern California Golf Association (SCGA) membership and gives me a few other discounts on golf/gear.  Now I can keep a legit USGA recognized handicap and try and play in some tournaments later this year.

Stracka.com is what I use, and I've been very happy with it. 30 bucks a year I believe.

I'd recommend www.ushandicap.com (formerly known as straka).  I think it costs $20.  The advantage is that you can get an official USGA handicap.

+1 for MyScorecard.  Have been using it for 2 or so years now and I love it!  I love the look of the website, very user friendly.  And also like knowing what I need to shoot in my next round to lower my handicap.  Tons of stats to choose from and like being able to compare how my game stacks up against the average golfer with my handicap, as well as a low (5) handicapper.

I used to use MyScorecard.....back when it was free.  Does that date me?  I had an official HC at the time.......I just used it for recording stats.  ....a nice feature.

I just signed up for MyScorecard and input my last 7 scores.  I need to tool around and figure out how to join a group.

MyScorecard gives a great service. The interface is neat and clean. No Ads - Loads of statistics - deep analysis of my game. For someone like me who is striving to improve the game, trust me this is the BEST. Its worth the money you pay and it isn't expensive either. Just give a try - YOU WILL LOVE IT!!!!

Okay, so I posted my first 10 scores, and it says that my average score is 76.7, but my HCP is 1.  I'm not really sure how that works, because I'm typically playing courses that are rated 1-2 shots over par, with one of the 10 scores being at a course rated at +3.

 

I still consider myself to be a 4ish handicapper, because my average score is around 77.  We'll see how it looks when I've posted 20 scores (which hopefully will be by 1 April).

 

Does anyone know how the "peer review" and "club" thing works?  What do I have to do to turn the scores I enter online into an official USGA HCP that I could use to play in a tournament--say registration for the Hawaii State Amateur?  I've never done the HCP thing, so please forgive my ignorance.
