Have been saving for a Scotty Cameron, but having a change of heart......

I found out through a few searches that David Orr, a certified Edel Putter/Wedge/Aimpoint guy is about an hour drive from me, and comes highly recommended.  I have been pinching a few pennies and hiding some lunch money in order to get a Scotty Cameron Newport 2.6, but I've become increasingly interested in getting a custom fit putter, since I want to become a better putter and was researching taking an aimpoint course, which is where I ran across David Orr.

I have contacted him about getting fit for an Edel Putter instead of buying the 2.6.  I have been told that the price is similar, and I figure that you can't beat a custom built putter designed around the way you see straight instead of an off the shelf Cameron.  It'll probably be a couple weeks until I can break away to get up to see him, but I'm thinking that as someone who averages 34 putts per round, the right putter and the Aimpoint course could be another step (along with finally getting a driver fitting) to me breaking into the 70's.

I've enjoyed my Edel for three years now.

you know you can get a putting fitting, and get a custom made Scotty Cameron made. Just because its on a shelf doesn't mean you have to buy that one. To me those clubs are all base to were i can get a custom one made. Majority of the time there the same price.

I will say that Edel seems to have the best custom set up out there, but don't discount other putters, they are also very customizable, Edel are just the most..

I understand that I can get a custom fit Cameron, but #1:  There are no real Putter Fitters here except for Edel and #2:  The cost of the Edel with the custom fitting is very reasonable for what you're getting.

Edel makes absolutely beautiful items; the level to which they are willing to take their customization is absolutely phenomenal.

That said, I like to switch clubs around more often than I actually play it seems...anything custom fit is going to mean I take a much larger hit financially when it comes time to trade the custom weighted, belly style mallet for something else.

A Scotty Stitchback/Buttonback?  Keep them in good shape and they are suitable for commodity trading.

I'll concur with this; you are bound to eventually find something that sticks with you forever.  For me, it is the putter listed in my sig that was a gift from my grandfather.  No matter how many Buttonbacks and Redwoods I have owned, they have never gone more than two consecutive rounds in the bag.

David Orr is top shelf all the way and particularly known or his putting prowess. I spent a day with him and will see him again in the near future. I would go spend 2-3 hours with him improving your putting stance, routine, stroke, etc.. and then go back after a month of practice and ingraining the changes. Do you really want a custom fit putter for your current stroke? If you are a great putter, go for it. But if you are not, give some consideration to what stroke the Edel putter is being it to. I find some forward thinking goes a long way in these matters.

That's what I was told as well, it has nothing to do with your stroke, it's all about what you perceive as lined up at the hole, which will never change.  David has a putting and Aimpoint clinic this Saturday, but unfortunately I won't be able to make it.  I will catch one in the near future though.

I've had a few SC's.  I like them, but if I had to do over and had a good referrel for an Edel fitter close by (as you do) I'd probably go that route.  Scotty's resale value will likely be better but as Erik stated you shouldn't be looking to sell the Edel if it's customized to your style of putting.

I am considering a Edel putter.  I use a line on the ball to align my putts.  Would getting fit for a putter have any benefit?  I really want to take an aimpoint class but they are hard to come by in my neck of the woods.

Question about the whole process, what the way you percieve putting changes from round to round. some days i know i have a tendency to aim right, its somethign i battle on my full swing shots. But some days i don't feel that tendency. I am just wondering if an Edel putter would be just as good as another putter for me because my perception isn't constant.

Personally I'd go with the scotty or maybe a nice ping redwood....the edel putter I was fitted for just wasn't my thing when I actually gamed it. The face felt like it had some dead spots too it, good looking stick though.

Well, I finally called to setup the appointment for next week.  I think I will have enough change left over to get fit for wedges while I'm there.  I may only be able to afford one wedge after getting the putter, but I'm under the impression that once I'm fit, I can just place the order for any others I would want without going back.

My short game has been horrible lately, so I'm going to make sure I have the right equipment, attend the next AimPoint clinic, and get back out with my instructor to practice chipping and pitch shots.

I'm excited about getting my short game under control and then I can concentrate on my other nemesis, the Driver.......
