Just completely gave up after winning the Masters. It's a shame because it was such an electrifying win with the crazy hook shot into the last playoff hole.

But since that moment, he gave excuses about family, moving his family, all the media hype, took was too much time off (45 days?).

I used to like the guy, but now he just acts weird. Him and little buddy Ricky, playing 12 year old tricks in the pool, doing stupid crap behind the cameras at the Golf Channel interviews.

He's just not into it the entire season now. What has his best finish since April?

Couldn't the same be said about Trevor Immelman and Charl Schwartzel? Bubba achieved a very highly regarded accomplishment and joins a select circle of Masters Champions. I can't blame the guy for taking some time off because most of us would probably do the same thing if we were doing well with cash and wanted to spend a little time with our families.

I can't roll with you here and agree that he's given up or that he "doesn't have it" and I definitely do not think he's rusty. Bubba will be just fine.

My overall point is that there are a few winners of The Masters who "drifted off" from the top of the leaderboards in tournaments that followed. Hell, maybe they just had that one good week of golf during the right event? It's too soon to assume.

If you're gonna bring up Bubba then the same can be said about Webb. Very comparable seasons. But at the end of the day, who gives a shit? They both won majors! And for someone who just won their first, the rest of the season shouldnt be that pressure filled and stressful. Good for them.

I'm not implying that "Bubba" had one good week either (even though he obviously did have a good week because he won). He came off of the what most consider to be the biggest major victory of the year and he's still on cloud 9. Can't blame the guy at all...

I watched a recent interview with Bubba, well about a month ago, where he mentions the adoption isn't final until Sep. or Oct. due to some state law. Because they had previously been denied they have concerns. He has more on his mind than golf.

Bubba has different priorities than many on tour do, but I agree with you that he essentially took the year off after The Masters and who could blame him right? Won a major, adopted a kid, moved his family, and he's a millionaire.  But at some point he's going to have to prove he's still worthy by winning something.

I can agree that it certainly would weight on one's mind, but he's out there competing so at some point he's got to shoot some scores and get some more wins.

I will say I have a hunch that will be his only major ever. Surely not much to base that on, but its a hunch. Like we have said, he has much greater priorities than golf. His heart doesnt seem quite as in it and he seems miserable out there sometimes kinda like Tiger, but Tiger is a whole other situation. Also, Bubba really is gonna have to learn to putt an chip if he wants to seriously contend again. Not saying he was undeserving of that win and surely all winners have a bit of luck at the end of the day, but I just feel like that is gonna be it for majors.

Agree. He doesn't have the all around game, or the temperment, right now anyway, to win something like a U.S. Open, or Open Championship. Perhaps a PGA Championship on the right golf course but other than that, I think this is his one. Not even sure he could get another Masters, but of all the majors that would be the one I'd say he could get for a 2nd time.

Yeah about the PGA, the thing is Kiawah is the perfect setup for his game. He kinda missed his shot.

Bubba has recently said that he feels his career is now complete (because he has made a career on tour, won a PGA Tour event and won a major) and plans to play 10 more years and then retire from competitive golf.  Clearly his mind isnt in the game like it needs to be.

All of these guys travel and play exhibitions after their first majors and make boatloads of money. It takes away from their game (except for Tiger). And then add in the fact that we all have personality quirks...

I think I like that about him.  That golf is part of his life, but not his life.

He's played well enough in 2012 to be ranked 7th in the world and 5th in FedEx Cup points. He's doing something right. If you look at his 2012 stats his finishes before and after the Masters are about the same.

Lets not mention that he added a new member to his family. That is a big thing, and it looks like his family really stabalizes him, and is very improtant to him. I can see him being very distracted right now. I don't think he will contend for the rest of the year, but watch out in next years masters. He's a lefty, and he hits it a mile. He could end up with 3-4 green jackets by the time he's done, maybe no other majors, but his game is really suited for that course. He hits a ton of greens.

I would agree and you could add several other players to that list.  I think it's more of the fact that fields are so deep, that winning a major and following up with more wins is just extremely difficult.  Also, we've become accustom to Tiger, he is not the norm, he is the exception, winning a major and several tournaments in one year is not what we should expect from any player.

Not trying to pile on to Bubba, I think he is a great story and brings a lot of energy to the game, but IMHO, he is not going to have a career like Phil or Ernie or even Padraig.  I don't see Bubba getting 20+ career wins and 3+ majors.

I find it HIGHLY interesting that people are willing to give Bubba a pass because he, "has a family".  They all have families, folks...

I dont think he sees himself having a career like those guys either.  After winning the masters he said:

Quote:

“As of less than two years ago, it seems like I didn’t have a win,” Watson said. “Now I’ve got four. My goal, my dream, has always been to have 10 wins. And you know, this is a step in that right direction."

“The ceiling? Major champion. I think I’m done, right?” Watson said. “I mean, I can’t do any better than this.

Give him a pass on what?  Not giving his job every ounce of energy for 25 straight years?

Why is he obligated to try to beat Jack's record or something?
