I wouldn't interpret Bubba's support of Chris as anti anything. He's been supportive of gay people as well, he's buddies with Ellen D.

If that's the case (Ellen's buddy), he'd have been better off just keeping his tweets on the subject to himself because, according to the USA Today linked article and other news sourses, he's being labeled as supporting the analyst who condemned Jason Collins.

Much ado about nothing if you ask me. We get way to caught up in who supports who and what (see TM CEO thread . I see nothing wrong with Chris Broussard voicing his beliefs, Jason Collins voicing his, and Bubba voicing his. None of them has said or done anything illegal.  And no, it doesn't bother me when people thank God after a win

But he made no comments about Collins, just tweeted more faith based stuff, very common for Bubba. I'll take it as more of the usual faith based stuff until Bubba says otherwise. He isn't shy. If he had something to say about Collins he would have said it. I've heard Bubba's take on this matter and he's not anti gay anything. He's super religious but his beliefs are personal and somewhat loose.

I don't get it, so what? Was he supposed to tweet something about Collins?

The point is he didn't and the OP seems convinced there's more to it than what Bubba tweeted. Enough so that he went beyond Jason Collins and veered into adultery. Another issue Bubba made no mention of. My post was a reply to Rick not you.

Wonder how Bubba feels about Tiger's adultery as well as Lucas Glover's infidelity?

Does he not like gay athletes in his midst?

Right on, gotcha. No quote confused me, sorry. Goes to my initial point though - big deal. Chris Broussard's beliefs apparently line up with Bubba's. It's not like that's a surprise or anything.

Weird thing is I'm showing my post #6 has a time stamp earlier than yours at #5, by a minute. Yours wasn't there when I started my response. My typing skills are real bad, I think you beat me to the submit button.

Anyway I agree big deal. I don't tweet or follow Bubba but I know enough about him that I doubt a day passes where he doesn't blast some faith based comment into cyberspace. But I haven't seen anything where it's ever been at the expense of someone else. He's not the judge and jury type.

CBS Sports reporting that Bubba supports the comments made:

Bubba Watson supports Broussard's comments on Jason Collins

http://www.cbssports.com/golf/blog/eye-on-golf/22170377/bubba-watson-supports-broussards-comments-on-jason-collins

In my opinion, Bubba needs to do what he does best: hit the golf ball. He has no special insight to get involved in this controversy  - otherwise he's likely to come out looking as stupid as Mike Wallace did over this.

Hes a hardcore Bible thumper - of course he supports anything anti gay. He has to live by the bibles opinion, not his own regardless of what he really thinks

I think it's interesting how much stock people place in Bronze Age and Iron Age mythology.  As long as someone's personal preferences don't hurt other people, why should anyone care?  Whiskey makes me gag (had a bad experience long ago that never wore off).  So when someone offers me a Scotch, do I condemn them for being "sinful?"   No, I politely decline - the fact that our tastes differ does not make either of us a bad person.  If the idea of kissing a person of your own gender does not appeal to you, then don't do it.  Problem solved.  No need to go about condemning other people or praising and supporting those who are doing the condemning just because someone else is different from you.

I clicked on the USA Today link to find out what Chris Broussard wrote.  He writes that he would not characterize Collins has a Christian, because the bible would not characterize those people he describes as "Christians."

That's really an empty statement, because by many interpretations, the Bible would not characterize a very large segment of self-proclaimed Christians as "Christians."  The amount of hypocrisy among religious zealots knows no bounds.

Interesting indeed.  And well said.

I will say though, that if they truly believe in that mythology, I have no problem with them explaining their beliefs as matters of beliefs.  For example, Broussard states that he believes, as a matter of principle, that Collins is "openly living in sin."  According to his belief construct, that is true and a simple concept to grasp.  What I do have a problem with, is using that belief construct to deny those people particular civil rights or using them to discriminate against them in any way.

Bible says a lot of stuff that if we took it literally, we'd have massive bloodshed.  Wonder if Bubba is aware of this one when he's working on Sundays.

Exodus 35:2

Six days work shall be done, but on the seventh day you shall have a Sabbath of solemn rest, holy to the Lord . Whoever does any work on it shall be put to death.

This season he's following that passage pretty well I'd say.

Here's a story on yahoo with a bunch of twittereactions (is that a word yet?  I just coined it!!) including Broussards. http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/nba-ball-dont-lie/kobe-bryant-bill-clinton-david-stern-others-support-163319934.html

And here is what Broussard wrote:

Quote:

" Personally, I don't believe that you can live an openly homosexual lifestyle or an openly premarital sex between heterosexuals, if you're openly living that type of lifestyle, then the Bible says you know them by their fruits, it says that's a sin. If you're openly living in unrepentant sin, whatever it may be, not just homosexuality, adultery, fornication, premarital sex between heterosexuals, whatever it may be, I believe that's walking in open rebellion to God and to Jesus Christ. I would not characterize that person as a Christian because I do not think the Bible would characterize them as a Christian."

I think that's BS that he threw all of the non-gay bashing stuff in there (pre-marital sex, adultery, etc) to try and disguise the fact that this is solely about homosexuality for him.  I've heard him talk about basketball a lot (and I like listening to him, I like his voice) but I've never heard him condemning anybody else for off-the-court sex related stuff prior to now.

I guess it's a safe bet, though, that if everything he said is true that A.C. Green is his all time favorite player.

But he doesn't. Before the election when gay marriage was in the news everyday and before his Masters attention faded he was asked about it on camera. I remember it because I was surprised by his response. I can't remember exactly what he said but it was along the lines of he's okay with whatever if two people love each other. It's probably on youtube, if not there's a shit-ton of clips of him wooing Ellen. I'd wager before the end of day tomorrow he'll say something about it. Even what Chris said is somewhat vague. The media is twisting this and people are taking the bait.

    • Day 82: 3/18/24 Tried a Stack session but could not certify my warmup. Finished with indoor chips and putting.
    • Day 96 (18 Mar 24) - Continued work with the Divot Board with the GW and hard foam balls.  Focused on small target/small miss…setup to hit target about 30yds out - success if it hit within 6’ circle of target, fail if outside.  Had decent success averaging about 3 out of 4 (hitting in groups of four).
    • Wordle 1,003 3/6 🟩🟩🟩⬜⬜ 🟩🟩🟩⬜🟩 🟩🟩🟩🟩🟩   felt a little like Wyndham when the first three green and I began the fist pump…
    • I'm relieved someone finally defined hiking. I was giddy when I saw these new TPI videos a day or so after they dropped. Very easy to understand the problem and solution the way they have presented it. Been working on fixing this for about a year and a half now. It's nice to be able to call it something so communication becomes easy.  I was working on more lateral and up too, but just having someone define it clearly in video form was so helpful for me to continue confidently with what I thought was wrong and how I had to fix it.  My conceptual error here was just trying to rotate like a tour pro but without including the necessary forward pressure/weight shift associated with enough lateral and upward motion of the pelvis.  This video is great too, as is Greg Rose.
    • Day 2.    couple mins of rolling putts end over end.    10 mins of Slow, mirror work, working on starting the downswing and impact wrist positions. Hit a couple balls into the net after.    Then finished with a couple chips to see if I could repeat what I worked on yesterday.
