Yeah, of all clubs, the 3-Wood seems to be the most likely to stop working for me.

When it fails on me, I go to the range after a game and practice hitting it on a tee. First I tee it up as though it were a small driver, ball equator at the top of the club. I hit a few tee shots this way. After a few good shots, I lower the tee. I repeat this until I'm practically hitting it off the deck. Seems to work for me the last few times my 3-Wood failed me. Needless to say, if I have 3 bad shots with it during a round, I put it away for the rest of the round. If I'm going to have to take two shots to achieve something, I might as well make them two shots of my choosing. Let me know if this works for you. For what it's worth, I do this with my Cobra 3-Wood.

you can always do what I did...... get rid of it. I took the 3 wood out and put in a 15 degree hybrid in its place.

Britboy is definitely on to something. I took my Sasquatch 3 wood out of the bag because it was infuriating to hit. I only recently put a 3-wood back in my bag but I only hit it when I'm extremely confident I can hit it where I want to, and if I screw up it won't leave me hung out to dry

I wrestled with the thought of getting a 15* hybrid but decided to replace my 19* hybrid with a 17* hybrid and got a 3-wood as well. At this point in my game I can't run from clubs because they're hard to hit and expect to have my H.I drop.

Sounds like overswinging to me. Are you only reaching for it when you want to bust a second shot into a par 5? Or hit a tee shot over the trees when you can't get your driver high enough? Misshit a few of these and your conficence is shot. Focus on making swings as close as you can to your longest hybrid.

Wish I could help... I had the same problem for a long time. I didn't carry a 3W for the last 15+ years for the same reason... just couldn't seem to hit it. Couldn't get it more than 5 feet off the ground, and I tried a few different ones. Then, I got a gift card for Dick's from some friends at my retirement party this summer, and I've been hanging on to it trying to find something that I needed. This week I decided to go try out some 3W's. I ended up buying an Adam's Ovation 3W (stock stiff shaft) for $79.... and I love it. I can actually hit the darn thing.

It has nice classic look to it, with a fairly small head, which I really like. It's never going to be the club to pop the ball over any intervening trees, but I get a fairly high ball flight, straight or just a slight fade, and good distance. The price was right and the club seems to work for me.

I would personally try to just think of swinging with an EXTREMELY smooth tempo when you are having trouble topping shots with a wood.

My tendency with woods is always to want to overswing and if I can just slow down and keep it under control my 5-Wood is a CANNON.

Well a 3 wood is pretty hard 2 hit, i think. You need to be hitting the ball quite well to hit it off the deck, but off the tee i find it to be great for accuracy. Maybe try sweeping the ball a bit more with a lower, wider takeaway??

Yeah, having a ton of money would suck

Seriously, I believe there are touring pros who don't use a 3-Wood. Don't feel bad if you don't.

When I want to hit my 3 wood high I pick it right up in my back swing and make a nice turn immediately.

You may want to try this and see if it works for you.

If you are topping the ball, you have to check ball position, and make sure you are not swaying on your back swing and not returning to the ball to make solid contact. If you are hitting your other clubs well and its only your 3 wood it could be psychological.

good luck, I am sure you will figure it out.
