Recently torn intercostal muscles on left hand side. Was wondering if there's is anything wrong with my swing that has caused this or whether it's just overuse as I've been going to the range a fair bit. I'm very new to the game so have no idea really how to analyse the video. I know I could swing a bit further back on my back-swing but other than that, not much idea.

Any feedback or advice would be greatly appreciated,  thanks

Sorry for the blocked area was the best I could do..

And normal speed..

Is there a way you can film in slow motion for face on? I helps a lot for reviewing. I did notice your backswing is pretty flat. Getting your hand higher at the top may help.  Check out the posture at address and the positions that the pros have in their swing versus yours.

Did you check out posture? You stand pretty upright and that makes your backswing pretty flat.

Any other opinions?

My opinion is you should participate in other discussions on the website. Become part of the community and people might be more willing to help you, otherwise you're just here looking for free swing advice.

Your backswing is too flat. At the top of your backswing your left arm is amost perpendicular to the ground, or completely horizontal. It should be on an angle. With your hands higher, a line from your hand through your shoulders should basically point towards the golf ball.

Thanks guys,

Yeah was aware of this problem as previously mentioned i kind of developed it in order to combat a slice which it does.. But obvioisly not in the correct way haha.

So do you think that this is the reason for the injury or just a general fault? And what are the drawbacks or negative effects of this motion?

Thanks again for the feedback it is much appreciated. 🙂

Honestly, the drawbacks and negative effects are probably too numerous to truly go over.

This video should be a good starting point for you.

Anyone?:)

The angle is off. It should be along your toe line. But you are coming over the top (outside in swing).

  1. What he said.
  2. You don't turn your hips in the backswing.
  3. You should post elsewhere in the forum so people want to help out a friend.
