Hi to you all I don't have too many golf buddies anymore and wanted to share how excited I am to be back!    I was on the high school golf team from 1996-1999   I made a HUGE mistake after high school.... I sold my set of clubs to Roger Dunn for a ridiculous LOW amount of money...  $120 dollars.    Since then I have had no clubs.... and 20 years later here I am...   I am BACK!!!    I went out golfing for the first time and shot bogey golf for the 9 holes we played...  (i hit balls a few different times before going out.    After shooting bogey golf I went in the pro shop and hit 1 shot with a used set of   RSI 1 irons....  after 1 hit I bought them  $300 dollars  5-pw  with a wedge       WOW!!!  these clubs are amazing!  I played another 9 holes a few days after getting the club and almost got 2 hole in ones!   both turned out to be birdies since they were within 3 feet.   I don't know if it's welcome back beginners luck or what but I was most improved one year on the HS golf team.   I am an example that if you stop golfing for long term, you CAN get it back!!    oh and it's so exciting as if I were a high school kid again golfing.   WOW I was such an idiot to let this disappear from my life for so long!    Thanks guys for listening to my excitement!     p.s.   my second round back I was 3 over   (executive par 3 course with  a couple par 4's  )           P.P.S.   One of the best parts about coming back is the amazing technology implemented into this game!!!!       I already got the Garmin S60 and this kind of stuff was NEVER thought of 20 years ago when I played last at the age of 18

Welcome!

Thanks Scott!  I'm excited to be here in a Golf forum as in 1999 I didn't know of ANY forums aside from dialing up to America Online to connect to the internet  😉    Stoked to have so much more information compared to before, I almost feel like I've traveled through time

Great read.

I used to play up until the age of 16 (12 handicap) and only started playing again last year at the age of 43.

Wasn't going to play but the father-in-law is an avid golfer and wanted to play while on holiday in Marbella so I agreed to go along. Well, that was it. After not hitting a ball since 16 I fell straight back into it. After 9 months of playing I ma already back to a 12 handicap and have posted a few sub 80 rounds too.

As you say, it just goes to show that you can get back into it and pick it back up pretty quickly.

Similar to you I bought some used clubs but now I have the 'bug' again I have been fitted for a full new bag as I intend to keep this up now and hopefully progress to a single digit handicap.

Good luck and enjoy your re-found love of the game.
