Well Bobby Jones is really the only one to achieve a Calendar Grand Slam in his era. And in my opinion I do think someone could pull off a "modern slam".

Tiger already did. He held all four major titles at one time, having won them within one year's time.

And Bobby's "slam" was much, much easier to win. Particularly the match play events.

Same reason as in my first post: strength and depth of field.

" Tiger Woods won all four major events consecutively within a 365-day period, but his victories were spread over two calendar years (winning three events in 2000 and the Masters in 2001)." So he didnt, but he came close to a "same calendar year slam" like Bobby Jones did.

I'm aware of the facts. Tiger won a slam, and it was a "modern slam" because it comprised the four modern majors.

Heck, it included the Players Championship, too.

Tiger's accomplishment is many times more impressive than Jones's.

I suppose you are a big Tiger Fan? I have nothing against him by the way I just like seeing what others say.

Not in the way you're implying, no.

I am quite capable of using logic and reason and not letting "fandom" cloud my judgment of things.

You're new, which is fine, but I've made my case a hundred times if I've made it once.

Alright, I will just leave your case as is so I do not further annoy.

Well if we’re going to be technical Tiger has many more wins than Snead. But just straight up comparison considering the strength and depth of fields Tigers modern slam is considerably more impressive than Jones’s. Just like Serena’s career is far superior to Margaret Court’s. Margaret got to count her slams when she was beating local country club and bridge club opponents.

That is very true the Tiger Slam, Ben Hogans 3 Same Year Majors, Jack Nicklaus three out of four majors 1971-1972 all very much more impressive than Bobby Jones Grand Slam.

Hence, why I said calendar year. Not taking away what Tiger did holding all four at one time. Just talking same calendar year.

Yes, you could say Tiger was closest in terms of wins. Spieth was closest in that if three or four more putts go down, he has all four. Depends how you look at it.

How can you even logically conclude Spieth is closer "only IF" some putts fall.  He hasn't even won all four period.

There's really only one way to look at it.

There are just too many great golfers in the world now for me to believe that anyone will ever win 6 Open's (either "The Open" or "The U.S. Open.")  But who would have thought that anyone after Jack would have won over 80 tournaments and also held all 4 majors at the same time?  That didn't look too likely just before Tiger entered our lives.  So, while I don't believe it will happen, at the same time, I do think that it is within the realm of possibility.

Never.  Some records are so old they are unassailable.  No one is ever going to win more games than Cy Young did, or more NASCAR races than Richard Petty.  It just isn't possible anymore.

    • Probably since the golfer has to swing the club back and up. The hands have to move back and up. You can feel them go back and up just by turning the shoulders and bending the right arm, because it brings your hands towards your right shoulder.  The difference is if you maintain width or not. Less width means a shorter feeling swing path so the more you need to lift the arms. Being as someone who gets the right arm bend at 110+ degrees, it's 100% a timing issue. I am use to like a 1.5+ second backswing. It probably should be like 1 second at most. Half a second or more will feel like an eternity. I have had swings where I keep my right arm straighter and I am still trying to time the downswing based on the old tempo.  Ideally, for me, it is probably going to be a much quicker and shorter (in duration) backswing, while keeping the right elbow straighter. Which also means more hinging to get swing length without over swinging.

    • I'm currently recuperating from surgery, so no golf, but have been thinking about this quite a bit. This and the don't overbend the right arm thing. It's hard for me to even pose the position, so I'm not 100% sure, but I feel like it's impossible to have the right humerus along the shirt seam and not overbend your right arm, unless your hands are down near your hips. If the left arm is up at or above the shoulder plane and your right arm is bent less than 90 degrees, then your right humerus has to raise or your hands will get pulled apart. Your left hand can't reach your right hand unless either the right upper arm is up or the right arm is overbent. Is that right? If it is, then focusing on not overbending the right arm would force you to raise the humerus. And actually thinking further on it, if you do overbend your right arm, then you're basically forcing your upper arm down or forcing your left arm to bend. Since (for me at least) bending the left arm too much is not something I think I need to worry about, it means that the bend in the trail arm is really the driving force behind what happens to the right humerus.
    • I managed to knock off a 3, a 13, and a 15 a couple of weeks ago. The 3 was a 185 yard par 3 with a 6 iron to 12 feet. 13 was a 350 yard par 4, which was a 2 iron and a 9 iron to about a foot. 15 was a 560 yard par 5 with a driver in a bunker, 4 iron into the semi, gap wedge to 8 feet and a putt.
