Well guys, I am thinking about purchasing a few dozen balls for this coming season now but I am really not too sure what to get. I love soft balls that spin but I do not want them to fall apart on every shot. Changing the ball a couple of times per round is no problem, but not every hole. I know the ProV1 is kind of the "best ball" in the tour category but are there any other balls that will spin just as much and last as long for cheaper?

I think this is the question that 90% of all golfers want to know.

You could probable try and purchase a sleeve of each ball you want to try out at your local golf shop or if you really like the Pro V1 but it's a little too expensive, try online websites that have refurbished balls.

I don't know about the cheaper part, but I got my hands of a few sleeves of the new Callaway TOURix. Pretty great ball. I also got the new CGrind wedge and it was eating balls like nothing I'd ever seen, until I put the TOURix into play. There was some bite wear, but nothing like what I got on the HXtour or ProVs.

give the taylormade tp red a shot, i found it to play a bit softer than the tp black and i think its supposed to spin more if that's what you're after. I've loved both of them for the distance off the tee and find them to play straighter and more durable that the pro v's.

Also seeing as you're in alberta take a run down to a Golftown store. With the new TP lines out I picked up a few packs of the old line for quite a bit cheaper.

I recommend the Srixon SoftFeel Ball. It is a soft ball that will spin around the greens and as well as being a cheaper alternative to the Pro V1 they come with an alignment line to help with your putting alignment.

Kris, the Pro V1 feels much softer then the NXT. There is a very noticeable difference.

I think that that new e5 might be the best way to go in the long run though.

Wilson Zips received good reviews in 2008 Golf Digest. I like Wilson's Fifty and think Wilson balls are running under the radar. Good price and good product.

You're right the Pro-V1 scuffs soo much. Theyre really good balls but they are too soft to play with-every full wedge shot i hit with them-i have to replace-so i stopped using them...I went to the Bridgestone B330 and let me tell you it is just as soft and somewhat durable. Try the B330 out

"People think the size of the head is most important. Wrong. It's getting a quality shaft. test different shafts to see which goes the straightest. Also, more degrees of loft on the head is better than less. Eleven degrees is about right."

I play Nike One Platinums. They get good spin, albeit not as good as the V1, but still above average. Feel is excellent. I love the new Power Transfer layer they put in it. What I like most is that it's one of the more durable premium balls out there. Takes wedge shots well and I find myself replacing them about every 6 holes or so.

Retail is $43, but look on ebay. You can find some great deals there. I just got 4 dozen brand new 2008 Platinum Ones in the mail for $117 shipped. For those of you who do not enjoy math, that's less than $30/box. Saved $55.

If Nike isn't your cup of tea, I've heard really good things about the B330. They get overlooked but they can hang in there with the best of em.

How does the e5 stand up to the B330 thanks

If you're truly a 2, the e5 is probably not your ball.

It's the Titleist DT (and the B330 is their upper-tier ball).
