The USPTO has a weekly listing of new patents. It's interesting/entertaining to take a look at what people are doing. This week, a new patent was issued for a new golf training aid.

Quote

A golf aid used to train a golfer to keep the head of the golfer down to view a screen of a cellular phone placed on the ground a short distance away to wait for a signal from the cellular phone to turn the head of the golfer a split second after striking a golf ball with a golf club

It seems to me that a good visual cue that you can turn your head is that the golf ball is no longer there, but patents don't judge the efficacy of the invention, only its novelty.

The drawing looks like Jason from Halloween!

I might be missing the point, but I'm with you. I'm not sure how training me to look at my phone until it tells me not to is any more/less effective than training me to look at the ball until its gone?

I also agree that the drawing of the little guy is kind of creepy.

My bag is an ever-changing combination of clubs.

A mix I am forever tinkering with.

It looks like Jason and that he's using an axe as a golf club!

And all my patent applications have just had boring block diagrams; I didn't know I could have drawn a cartoon.

Mine were pretty basic too, but better than these.

It does look like Jason, but I see a yarmulke. Shrug.
