Hello all,

I have some chronic pain in my lower back lumbar area and left Side. Does anyone know if  a Back support will help While playing golf? Or is it just too cumbersome.

thank you!

Really hard to give a yes or no with such limited information. Knowing the actual cause of your pain would be a start. That being said, you could certainly try the back support on the range. The neoprene slide on would be a start. The rigid style with lumbar support bars may a be bit much and even cause further injury so I’d take that very slowly with simple chip shots/ pitches.

Most of my back pain went away when I did the following.

1. Stretch
2. Ice
3. Be more mobile on a daily basis
4. Get some muscle release from my chiropractor.

My back can still flair up, but I manage it much better than I use to.

If it gets bad where it is painful, I do not golf till I have a few days of being pain free. Muscle tightness for me isn't the same thing as pain.

I’ve played with both an SI joint compression wrap and a a lower lumbar compression wrap with no issues. Both were the kind that you put the wrap on, then tightened with a second set of elastics. I used the lumbar one for a muscle pull in my lower back. Neither restricted breathing.

This is correct. Answer to OP is "Yes". Get the one that is wide in the back side. Best, -Marv

I know I am not answering your question but I would go see a good neurosurgeon, (I don't recommend orthopedic doctors, my personal opinion),have a complete exam including an MRI and see what he or she says. Lower back pain is nothing to fool around with. I have had three lower back surgeries, (L5S1). Now I am able to play without pain although I cannot walk 18, I have to use a cart.

About 6 years ago I was sweeping my patio (which, in the Summer, I do about every two days) and from out of nowhere my lower back gave out... I couldn't even straighten up, much less imagine playing golf.  Saw the doc the next day and was prescribed a 6 day regimen of prednisone.  For me it was a miracle drug.  Before I even finished the dosage I was comfortably back to playing golf.  I know your case is chronic, not a one off.  But you might ask your doctor about it.  They always love it when you quote the internet or a friend about a particular drug.  😀
