Statements like that let everyone else know they can safely ignore your opinions on this. When you demonstrate that you're this type of "always" or "everything" or "100%" types, it's too hyperbolic. It's not real, it's not the truth. It's not factual.

Ok. But...

So Tiger and Jack don't have to return theirs, but it's poor form for anyone to accept a new one? That doesn't feel inconsistent to you?

Aren't you a 100% kind of guy, at least as it relates to these four. The circumstances between the first 2 and the last 2 are vastly different, as Bill Belichik  demonstrated (I'm sure he'd have had no problem accepting that honor just a few months ago).

You.

Did you click the link? No? Didn’t think so. You fell to Godwin’s Law. “You lose” was a reference to the idea, shared by many, that whomever first invokes Hitler/Nazis “loses” the debate.

100% how? Don’t know what you’re after here.

I’m not 100% on much of anything.

Certainly not much of anything that’s a matter of opinion.

Maybe I'm reading something that's not there, but I advocated for Jack and Tiger getting (and keeping) their medals while questioning the idea of Player and Sorenstam getting theirs on January 7th, hidden from the press, after everyone saw what happened on January 6th.

You, the not 100% guy (which I agree with, in general), expressing that my views are a bit a double-standard, that I am not consistent, etc..  I just find that ironic, that's all.

You’re right: you’re reading something that’s not there.

I do think it’s a bit of a double standard. Trump didn’t decide to give Annika and Player the medals after the insurrection/whatever you want to call it. They traveled to DC and were there because he decided to give them the award before.

So if Tiger and Jack get to keep their medals, why shouldn’t Gary and Annika?

Asking that question of you does not make me a “100% guy.” I’ve said people should do what’s right, and that I’m not going to blame them or feel badly about them whatever they decide.

Look, I am not dead set against these 2 getting a medal, although I think their accomplishments on (less so for Annika) and off the course are significantly less than those of Jack and Tiger, and thus devalue the medal in question (but after Rush Limbaugh and David Nunes, that value has probably hit rock bottom now, after once being given to Mother Teresa...)

Anyway, Gary and Annika get to keep their medals: no-one is asking that they give them back, but they should have refused to participate in a charade after what had transpired just the day before. If it was all good and fine, why was the press not invited then? IMHO, this ceremony should have been postponed or even just canceled, if all involved, included Trump of course, had any decency, but then of course we wouldn't be discussing this now, would we?

Perhaps Biden would have given them a medal later, or not. It does not really matter.

I can see how, if you think they should have refused the medals, you think it would have been okay to cancel the ceremony.

But surely you can see how, if it’s okay to accept the medals, canceling the ceremony would have been stupid. First of all, presumably they traveled up to DC the day before, so now they flew in for nothing. And again, neither Gary nor Annika did anything “wrong.” So why should they cancel the ceremony. That’d be like Lucy pulling the football away from Charlie Brown.

Also, why no media? Because I’m pretty sure most of them were busy covering things down the street.

Let’s avoid the political commentary, too, please. Obama gave out over a hundred of these things. I’m sure you could find some stinkers in there, too. Bill Cosby has one, after all (from Clinton I believe).

P.S. Again, I just don’t buy the idea that two people, neither of which (to our knowledge) have done anything “bad” really, should willingly give up an award that is not exactly handed out lightly. Had they beers given the award a week prior, should they have had to give them back? If so, how about everyone else who got this award from Trump at any point in his presidency. Should Tiger have to give his back? And isn’t it possibly true that they could have used the time they had with Trump to speak their mind to him, and that perhaps they did so?

I’m fine with what Coach Hoodie did, just as I’m fine with what Annika/Gary did. But, I can separate the “I earned this award,” and “That guy is terrible.” They’re different things to me.

I know what I would have done... bailed out.  With Annika's and/or Gary's bank accounts I don't think their flight to D.C. was a major expense.  I would have called it a day and gone over to play Congressional.  The actual case may be that those two folks are apolitical.  Send me to Sri Lanka to pick up a medal and I have little clue as to their political climate.  And if it was in the middle of a coup I would have been rich fodder for their regional golf forum...

    • That is a great golf course.  Played it, along with its sister course, true blue this past summer.
    • Shot 79, 14 GIR/nGIR, 26 putts, 2 penalty strokes. Both penalty strokes came on the back 9, and were just bad swings. In both cases, I stood over the ball too long, and should have backed off and reset, instead of making an uncomfortable swing. Didn't have my A game with full swing today, but except for the two penalty strokes from hitting into red-staked penalty area, I was keeping the ball in play, and advancing the ball decently. Short game was pretty good except one hole where it took 3 pitches to get on the green. The first two were out of awful lies, so I have a little pre-baked excuse for that one at least. Putting was really solid today, especially considering the greens were aerated, sanded, and unmown. Strokes gained vs. 5 HCP: Tee: -2.05 Approach: -2.80 Short Game: -1.64 Putting: +1.03
    • Day 50: Played 18 this morning. Overnight rain made the course a little sloppy. Fairways were wet and hadn't been mowed, and greens were punched, sanded, and also unmowed. Didn't have my best swing, but made it work for the round, and scored pretty well.
    • Yup, this was the move. I was striping the ball today. Hit 8/14 fairways at Neshanic, which isn't easy. Unfortunately I didn't score well, because my short game decided not to show up to the course for the first 12 holes and I kept lipping out 5-10 footers. Thinned/chunked a handful of shots inside 100. Ended up with 7 GIR, should have been 10. Did almost drive a 315 yard par 4, though. Made two birdies and missed two 8' birdie putts - one on a 200 yard par 3. It was an interesting day.
    • That really seems to be a rational approach to this. We aren’t going back to the old school names; (I don’t think…) ? And iron numbers have been rendered meaningless. So you approach creating a club set by saying,” well, I need a driver, a fairway club around 18 degrees, and a …..”   I think this says it pretty well!
