I'd have to say Srixon. They are never acknowledged but have great irons.

I think Srixon is getting a good following in the Asian markets nowadays

I'd go with either Snake Eyes or Wilson

both great companies

Geek. Some of the best drivers I've ever played. The Geek Dot Com This driver kicked a custom fit tour issue driver out of my bag.

indeed... heard nothing but good things

what about Yonex- they make great clubs. Anyone remember Tanaka, Pro Kennex, or Kunnan?

back in the mid 90's when I started golfing Yonex was pretty big... I guess they lost some of their market share.

How bout Tour Edge?

another good one

There are so many good component companies... I don't know if they are underrated or just lesser known though... or if there is a difference? I think Adams is underrated as far as players clubs go (I AM biased)... but the Idea Pro Forged Iron is a sweet forged iron. Also, the hybrids are some of the best around and the new driver line is very solid. Too many people see than as an old man's company. They do need to step up and make a blade though.
My Clubs: Callaway FT-i Tour LCG 9.5° w/ Matrix Ozik Xcon 6 stiff; Sonartec GS Tour 14° w/ Graphite Design Red Ice 70 stiff; Adams Idea Pro 2h(18°) & 3h(20°) w/ Aldila VS Proto 80 stiff; Adams Idea Pro Forged 4-PW w/ TT Black Gold stiff; Cleveland CG12 DSG RTG 52°-10° & 58°-10°; Odyssey...

Component Clubs never get the respect they deserve. Wilson also are percieved as junk, thats just because they make junk like the Harmonized or ProStaff Clubs. But Wilson Staff is quality equipment.

Don't forget about Nicklaus Golf....The Air Max driver was a great great club.

"People think the size of the head is most important. Wrong. It's getting a quality shaft. test different shafts to see which goes the straightest. Also, more degrees of loft on the head is better than less. Eleven degrees is about right."

BenRoss . After reading a lot of good things about this company I bought a VX Combo OS set (they have been replaced by the VeloCT irons this year) and I really like them. The VX OS set is made for beginners and high-handicappers, they have a lot of forgiveness and a high ball launch. Benross uses high-quality components (Graffaloy, True Temper, Aldila shafts and Golf Pride grips) at a price that is lower than other brands. They say they can make it happen because they don't spend millions of $$ on advertising and endorsement.

HOGAN! Ever since Callaway bought them out, production has been stagnant. Very good quality clubs though.

Hit an Apex and a Mizuno MP33 back to back, and while the Mizuno was very nice and I understand why so many people love their irons, I just smashed the lights out with the Hogans. So consistant, smooth and very classic and elegent design.

Also some of the custom build clubmaking products are very nice but often overlooked.

Miura doesn't post prices on the web... about how much would a set run with some DG S300 or comparable shafts? Does anyone have a ballpark number?

Depends on which iron you want. I've seen the heads 4-PW for about $600. That's the cheapest. You can find more information, here:

Typical Miura 5 iron through PW is $1200, plus about $200 each for additional clubs like a 4 iron or a 3 iron.

I borrowed my friends Dunlop "Loco" which is a 460cc 9.5* budget driver, and my did that baby launch a ball! I am 6' 5" and 260lbs....the club cost $40.00 and and was 20 yards longer than my Nike. Just goes to show that Dunlop make a decent budget club

How bout Tour Edge?

Yeah, what about

Tour Edge ???? I love my Lynx black cat irons - they are over like 15 or 20 years old, not sure exactly - my brother gave them to me: I have a MacTec NVG 10.5 degree driver, but I can't hit it at all and it's obnoxiously loud. I do love my MacGregor BG FLS putter though...

What's in my bag:
Cleveland Hibore XLS Monster Driver
TourEdge Exotics 2,3,4 hybrid irons
Tommy Armour 845cs Silverbacks 5-PW
Assorted wedges, Ping Scottsdale Anser

Lynx used to make some great clubs, what with the Boom Boom drivers and the Parallax irons that Freddie Couples and Ernie used to use with great success...happy days!

never tried the wedges but I loved thier putters. Lately I tried the one i used to play, but since using a scotty I don't like it as much... the face is too mushy for me.

    • Is it? I bought the Stack radar to replace my PRGR based on what Stack told me! When I am swinging for speed, the PRGR would miss 50%-80% of my backswings due to a higher speed. The stack seldom misses those- at least for me.
    • As an analyst by nature, I would like to compare the scores under both systems. It is something we can easily do if we have the data. I actually thought the new system was less fair to those whose game was on the decline - like mine! Old: Best 10 of last 20 scores with the .96 multiplier. Course handicap excluded course rating and overall par. New: Best 8/20. Course handicap includes course rating -par. My understanding is Stableford caps scores at Net double bogey like stroke play. If so, handicap should be slower to rise because you are only using 8 versus 10 scores. If I am missing something, I am curious enough to  want to understand what that may be. My home course tees that I play are 72.1/154 now. My best score out here is 82. When my game started to decline, my handicap didn’t budge for 13 rounds because of good scores in my first 8! I know I am an anomaly but my handicap has increased almost 80% in the past few years (with only a few rounds this year). For a few months I knew I was losing every bet because my game was nowhere near my handicap. I suspect I have steamrolled a few nuances but that shouldn’t matter much. When I have modeled this with someone playing the same tees and course, one good round, or return to form, will immediately reduce the handicap by some amount.
