To some of you out-of-towners who are going to stay overnight, I would be willing to get there ~8am to begin working with you, particularly as I haven't really worked with you before and so we don't have a short-hand, we don't have familiarity. If I say "Matt (@saevel25), do that umbrella thing, pause, and give me 100 yards" he'll know what I'm talking about.

I'll need to check schedule more but my interest is peaked.  I have @ 4 1/2 hour drive and would not spend the night in my SUV.  @Chris Brooks you can share a room with me if I do come.  I would only come with the anticipation of playing a round in the afternoon.  Just too long a drive for only a lesson (although I am sure it would be a great lesson).   As for golfing after a lesson, at least we would be with others in the same boat.

Normally this would work but my wife will likely come along for the ride. We often use chance trips like this to do some exploring / hiking so if she comes along I’ll stick to the van.

What I'd recommend…

  • 8am to 9am - I get started with @StuM and @dennyjones.
  • 9am to 10am - I help out @Chris Brooks and @Carl3.
  • 10am to 10:45am - I help out @saevel25 and @ChetlovesMer.
  • 10:45 to 11:30am - Everyone practices, I cycle around helping out everyone, people take breaks.
  • 11:30 to 1:00pm - Short Game + Putting work, small break in the middle maybe. All together as a group, then separately a bit.

I think Chet and Matt will be okay with this as they'll will know what they're working on, and I'll still be able to supervise them, and keep them on their tracks. Cost will probably be a little more than the normal hourly rate since you'll all be getting a decent amount more than what you get in a normal lesson.

Input welcome.  @dennyjonesand I will need a hotel.  We were initially thinking of the Stay-&-Play at Whispering Woods and try to do a round there Saturday.  Whispering Woods looks to be @ 20 minutes from Golf Evolution but not sure what hotels.  My questions are,

1) For those that hope to golf Saturday after the lessons, what course(s) are you thinking.  Naturally, weather will pay a roll in this.

2) Any suggestions on hotels.

3) For any spending a night is there interest in grabbing dinner/drinks?

Any suggestions on hotels.

I stayed at the Cobblestone Hotel and Suites in Harborcreek the last two times I was in Erie. It was ok, nothing to write home about. I think it’s about 10-15 minutes from Golf Evolution and 20 minutes or so from WW.

I stayed at the Ramada by Wyndham Bel Aire in Erie once. I swear it was a Clarion or another name when I was there, but they may have sold the place. The place was undergoing renovations when I was there and a bit of a mess. I’m sure they’re done by now. They were fine, too. Location is much closer to stuff in and around town, and about 10 minutes away from both Golf Evolution and WW. Pre-COVID times, their breakfast was pretty good, because they had an actual restaurant in the hotel.

There are a few hotels on upper Peach street by the "Millcreek Mall." You could also stay across the street at the Avalon Hotel on 10th Street in downtown Erie, PA.

I’m open to suggestions and will go with the crowd on course selection. Have never played in the area - proximity to lessons probably important as days are getting shorter around this time of year.

Very up for a dinner / cocktail hookup the night before.

    • Thanks but honestly… I don't know any other way. I don't mind being wrong so long as I know where to go from there. I don't like being wrong — I'd love to get things right (which is different than "being right"). I recommend grabbing a furniture slider or a paper plate or something, and doing something like this: First, make a swing where you let your trail foot swing out as you turn, then twist that foot back in. From DL and FO, it'll look like this: Then, during a regular backswing, try to twist your foot in slightly (demonstrated in the left image): You'll notice a crease along the trail side of your hip, your pelvis will "fold" into that thigh (internal rotation of the hip joint), and your "bits" will be squished a little between your pelvis and your thigh. Ben Hogan said once: "At the top of the back swing the groin muscle on the inside of your rt [sic] leg near your right nut will tighten," Hogan wrote. "This subtle feeling of tightness there tells you that you have made the correct move back from the ball." I don't know about that, but you will probably feel something down around that area.
    • Yep. I think it will start to feel even more athletic when we start on the downswing stuff later.  I know, it's just I want to be younger so I have more time to enjoy the changes. 🙂
    • I need to drop a couple of stone. 🙂 😛    Yep. Yeah, but in the end, it feels more athletic, like you're actually using your legs, yeah? As you know… we use the best available info we have. Like others, I was fooled a little by 2D images for awhile (moving or still). Unlike others, I've learned and grown and moved on since then, while they're still looking at their images (often from lousy camera angles).
