Can I ask why you would try a word with a repeating letter as your second guess? Just trying to learn strategery

My start word in this case was Irate. Since A wasn’t in the middle, I looked at words with o and u in the to go with the a. I couldn’t see one that fit without an r or e or t at the end. So I then assumed a was used twice. It has risk because there could be only one vowel, but sometimes the second guess can eliminate a lot of words. Also, I think about if there is a Y in the word, but couldn’t fit one.
