  1. 1. Standing on the tee, what do you (I) do?

In this scenario, the architect has taken the decision out of the hands of the definition "scratch" male golfer who hits his driver 250 yards.

I agree with both of those. There are multiple holes on this course like that. I'm not a fan of the layout but the course is affordable and usually has open tee times so we play it a few times per year.

Well, technically, I think the wash was there first.

But I get your point.

I will tell you that I am a fan of risk/reward, when you actually have a potential reward. In this scenario, the architect has taken the decision out of the hands of the definition "scratch" male golfer who hits his driver 250 yards.

This is very true. Could have put the tee a bit farther up and just made it a long par 4 with a demanding, but reasonable carry, tee shot.

Pretty much agree with all of the above. Some very quirky holes on the course.

Most of the time I am probably hitting 3-hybrid twice and then approaching green with a partial LW.

If my 2-way miss happened to be under control, which seems to be about once a month, I'd give driver a go.

I'll hit driver. The creek isn't in play for me off the tee. Then depending upon which side of the fairway I'm on will choose the next shot. If I'm on the right side, I'll hit a couple of 9 irons onto the green. If I'm left, I'll go with a 4H + 50.
