I keep thinking of the amount of prep work he'd have to do, too, just to get his arm and shoulder ready for the strain. It'd take months before he was ready to even try without hurting himself. Throwing a ball 80 times in one day is a lot of times, especially when you're trying to max out distance on almost every single throw

Well 30+ of them are just going to be putts, and some greenside distance shots, etc. Probably "only" 30-35 "full" throws.

I feel like he's picturing a "par 71" that's like 5000 yards, but he also supposedly took the bet of the guy with a 6100 yard course, so…

I don't know what his angle is here.

So, this was nine years ago, and he threw it about 110 yards (and missed the green, of course).

Plus, he can't do the math very well:

That's such a specific length it sounds like he's expecting to keep his foot on the spot of the ball, lay down toward the hole to reach out and just drop it in

I just said the same thing to a friend.

I'd call foul on that.

As would I, but even giving him that stretch he's not breaking 80.

I'm curious what the course is but I'd wager he doesn't even have a par "putt" on over half the holes

My home course has two holes that border the range, and balls leak out into the course sometimes.  I periodically embarrass myself by throwing one back.  You can see why I was the first one cut from baseball in tenth grade.

Unless he isn't counting putts and is claiming he can use 79 or fewer throws to go tee-to-green on 18 holes... and even then I doubt.

@iacas, are you planning to be there (wherever 'there' is) in person?

And on that note, will a gallery be entertained? (Hint, hint)

Ha, pretty unlikely, but if that course "Sully" has in mind is nearby, maybe?

I clicked through and looked at his twitter, man he's being pretty cocky about this.

He must be pretty bored.

That or the $20k he might lose is "worth it" in some way.

Maybe a sponsor is putting up the cash, and he gets the publicity, or it goes to charity, or… something.

My first thought was a throwing aid but the Rules Committee has nixed that.  There are some courses that have very firm conditions which would aid a throw with bounce and roll.  At the same time, stopping a thrown ball under those conditions would be so hard that the firmness might be a negative.  Other than resorting to a yet unknown strategy, it is hard to see Breed winning this bet.

I wonder if he has been practicing?  A hustler doesn't offer a bet unless he already knows the outcome.  Selecting a "Par 71" seems suspicious.  Why not a "Par 72" or a "Par 70"?  He must have a specific course in mind.

But the guy gave him a 6100-yard par-70, will fly Breed there, and bet him $20,000.

I mean, there are some 7000-yard par 71s out there, and probably some 5400 yard par-71s.
