Mizuno T-Zoid Pro II Irons With Mizuno Exsar Graphite Regular Shafts - Superb!

Recommended Posts

I drift anywhere between a 3 and 5 handicap.  I've tested and played many an iron and I'd argue that I'm one of the most astute testers out there.  I play at a well-established country club 3x per week and my iron game is arguably the best at the club.  This would explain why I've won the club championship several times.  Allow me to digress.  On a whim, I saw these irons on Ebay as I'd been looking for my old go-to irons of the past, the Mizuno Tzoid Pro II irons.  Previously, I had gamed this set with Dynamic Gold R300 shafts but this time I thought I'd throw the baby out with the bath water and try something new.  To my astonishment, these irons are pure bliss!  Solid shots feel wonderful and have that sublime forged feel that only a Mizuno can produce.  I was throwing darts all day.  Other club members were looking on with astonishment as ever iron was like a guided laser at the hole.  Birdie, birdie, par, birdie, etc.  It just kept happening.

If you can procure a set, I strongly recommend.

Do you think they feel better than the MP series irons? Being lefty I’m somewhat limited in choices with Mizuno. I had a set of MP54’s that I really liked.

My issue is that although i love the feel of irons like these, I'm not talented enough to play my best with them. I have a set of Titleist 620MBs…amazing feel but just cant compare to the height and distance i get with my PXG DC or my Ping i525.

I had a one off T Zoid Pro 6i 20 plus years ago.  It was a good club, but not any better than any other Mizuno irons I’ve had (MP33, MP32, MP52, MP5, MP25, MP20).

Not sure if the T Zoid Pros are even conforming anymore?

I probably wouldn't even try a set of blades.  Did have some clubs as a kid but most of my playing life have been using some sort of cavity back irons.  Am happy it works for you but unless my ball striking improves dramatically, it would be a bad set for me at present

What's in the bag

  • Taylor Made r5 dual Draw 9.5* (stiff)
  • Cobra Baffler 4H (stiff)
  • Taylor Made RAC OS 6-9,P,S (regular)

Are you using this phrase right? ... I'm confused what you mean here. 😜

But in answer to your post. With just a very few exceptions, Mizuno pretty much always makes great irons. The T-Zoids, however, are special. If I recall correctly that was the last iron that Mizuno put a thin layer of copper under the skin of the iron. My understanding is that this was done to enhance the feel of the irons and supposedly it works. Many better players claimed that they could feel the difference. (I can't.) Mizuno stopped doing it for a while, because I guess the process is expensive.

I think Mizuno went back to doing this extra process a couple years ago by putting the layer of copper under the skin of the MP-20's.

My bag is an ever-changing combination of clubs.

A mix I am forever tinkering with.

Wouldn’t the copper be there to help the chrome adhere? It’s common in plating to have a copper strike to get chrome over steel.

In this case there's a slightly thicker layer used to create a softer feel.

I read a really interesting article about it way back during Covid. I couldn't find it. But here's something similar.

I've read through all of the comments and shall reply here.  I have played the Mizuno MP-60, MP-30, MP-32 and MP-33.   The problem I have found with the MP line of irons from Mizuno is that the ball flight is too high.  I have found this especially true with the MP-60 and MP-30.  This was both with S300 and Project X 6.0.   I don't find the high ball flight to be true with the Tzoid Pro II irons at all.  What I've experienced is a nice, penetrating ball flight that has the perfect trajectory and a very pleasing feel.   For some reason the MP-60 faces feel almost too soft and a bit mushy for my taste.

That is all.

    • Couple things to update First on the clubs/ball. I switched golf balls to the Left Dash ProV1x. It seems like a great fit for me. I always need lower spin off the tee, it's about a half club longer into greens, and still gives me enough spin with chips and pitches to hit whatever shot I need. The durability is insane too, played 35 holes with one over my last two rounds and it still looked brand new until I lost it. Hybrid is no longer. Couldn’t quite get a consistent strike and the random snap hook left was always lurking as soon as the strike drifted out towards the toe. I know it was me not the club but I couldn’t stand the lefts anymore. Titliest fitting guy came to our club a few days ago and I had been curious about the T200 3iron. I hit a few with it and the stock HZRDUS graphite shaft, it wasn’t bad at all but I could definitely tell when I mishit it. Then the fitter had me try the U505 3iron. When he asked if I was open to trying it I said something like “Isn’t that the game improvement one?” and he said “Just trust me and hit a few with it”. Within 5 swings I was sold. Suddenly it didn’t look as big and chunky when I started hitting rocket after rocket. It did every single thing I want a 3 iron to do. It flies very high, forgiving, can hit it off the tee and ground, can flight it low when needed, and best of all, it doesn’t go left. He had me try to snap hook one left and it resulted in a nice tight draw, nowhere close to a hook. Tried it with the stock shaft and their upgraded one, ended up hitting it the best with the Graphite Design Tour AD IZ-95. Ended up getting a great deal on a used one that arrived yesterday so going to go measure my numbers with it today at the range. I expect to be using this a lot for 2nd shots into par 5s, being that 230-250 club. Hit some on the Mevo+ yesterday and the distance is exactly what I needed.     From a playing perspective, been playing pretty solid so far this season, driving and putting have been solid overall, approach shots have been good for the most part and short game wasn't great to start the year but it's been getting better lately with some more dedicated practice. Compared to scratch over 7 rounds:
    • so with the driver. Feel more arm  width at A4. keep an in the eye on the ball. The first move from the top is lowering the hands down. Don’t mix that up with looking up at the target as the club comes down from A4 with the body. Feel like I get width with the arms from the chest in the Downswing.

    • Went back and reviewed my rounds this year at my home course to fill out the spreadsheet. Realized I have made at least par on each hole but two that I have bogied. At my skill level, it gives me a new confidence that I can play each hole decently well and strong together a lower score. Great mental boost.
    • I'm at 330 I think. I have a spreadsheet with all of them in it. It helps having lived in two countries. 159 in the US and 136 in the UK. Then a handful in Europe and a few in other countries (Canada, Australia, Mexico).
