Let's all do this test and post what our results are.

It'll be a few days before I can do it, and I don't know that it will be all that revealing (particularly as some may have range of motion limitations with their foot pretty far behind them), but… it may be illuminating. Or not. Anyway, it won't take very long. 😄

I’ll fire up the Mevo+ this weekend and see. If I had to guess, I’d say I lean towards right dominant based on how I post up on my right side in my swing.

Yep, going to have to break out the Mevo for this one. I will make note to give this a try tomorrow when I practice.

If I had to predict, I am going to be centered to right side dominant. I just have better balance on my right side and have always been pretty strongly right side dominant. From weightlifting, doing things like split squats. My right side is stronger.

I think everyone will be center to right for right hand swings. I have a few students with hip mobility/restrictions from hip replacements and weakness. So that would affect their ability to swing fast on one side or another. But both being healthy, idk, I feel like it’d be odd if people were not somewhat center leaning in this experiment. Both feet on ground, balance, comfort create more relaxed environment which should give higher speeds.

I’ll do the test this morning.

Yeah, I'm not entirely sure of this test. But it's worth trying.

Won't take very long at all.

I only measured clubhead speed using a 6iron. I didn’t fully warm up so I may check again later today. Not surprisingly to me, center was fastest averaging 93mph. Left foot swings were 86mph and right foot swings were 82mph. I definitely felt limited in my ability to rotate the chest on my right foot suggesting some mobility restriction.

I did it with a 6 iron and my swing radar. 75-77 with feet together. 73-75 left leg back and 70-73 right leg back.

Isn't how solidly you strike the ball part of the test?

I think so yes. You aren't supposed to just swing a club.

I have performed this test several times over the past year.  I am longest with all clubs with my left forward. Not far behind were shots with my feet together. I hit my shortest shots with my right forward. I will try and do this test Saturday to check my speed.

The video sort of said otherwise. He rated clubhead speed higher than anything else.

Hitting a ball.

He also talked about his ball speed.

I don't have a launch monitor so will not be able to do the test but my curiosity is around how much value a golfer gets from knowing this information.  I understand I am a High HCP so better golfers may be more capable of fine tuning thier swing but over years of golfing & lessons, etc. would a golfer not have already subconciosuly tweaked their set-up to get an optimum balance of club speed & consisten ball contact?  My thought is any change from knowing the result of this test would be only a very minor change, if any, in set-up and little change in outcomes.

Am I off base on that thinking?

I think that may have been to what @iacas was referring when he wrote "and I don't know that it will be all that revealing?"

Anyway, I've been wondering that, too.  I imagine I'll eventually get around to trying it, but, for the life of me I've no idea what the results will mean.  The guy in the video goes on to explain about "dialing-in ones pressure system, their ground reaction forces, to match the results of the testing."  But, what does that mean?

Ok my prediction was wrong.

Right Leg

Left Leg

For me, way easier to hit the ball with left leg only. I could push and turn using my left leg. With the right leg I couldn’t turn open and lost lots of speed.

    • I can't say that I remember a lot of individual putts, but I do have one specific memory.  The first time I played the Old Course, I had hit a pretty good drive on the 6th hole.  I had about 60 yards left, and due to the swale in front of the green, there was no chance of flying a wedge on or near the green and having it stop on the green.  My caddie recommended either a running 7-iron chip or a putt, and I took the putter and a pretty hard swing.  The ball rolled over humps and through hollows, disappeared into the swale in front of the green, and re-appeared heading right at the hole.  I ended up maybe 12 feet away.  The caddie turned and held out his hand to shake mine, and said "Now THAT was a golf shot!"
    • For the first time since 2021, I made a 3 on the 12th at Stoneleigh.    395 yards, something like 80 feet uphill, I hit a solid drive and a 7-wood to inside a foot.  Even I couldn't miss that one.  I feel like I haven't played a lot of golf this year, but I'm making decent progress.
