What do you guys set your Handicap Benchmark at, or do you even worry about it? I'm currently sitting at a 14, so should I set a "goal" of comparing it to a 10? I had it left at Tour Player and that's discouraging of course.

(For reference if I read this in the future: as I type this, I'm a ~12 handicap)

Depends what I'm thinking about or looking at.  My default is to keep my comparison at a 10, although I'll look at 5 because I sometimes have rounds where my approach play is so much better than a 10 handicap and I want to see if I beat the 5 hcp benchmark.  On rare occasions, I even see driving at that level, although I'm usually between 10 and 5 for that one.

One of my goals -- if I had goals -- last summer was to get my chipping and putting to the 15 handicap level.  I wish ShotScope had 20 and 25 hcp available for comparisons, since my short game is typically in that region.

Mine has 20 and 25 hcp. I don't go -SG (overall) until I compare to a 5. 19.16 compared to a 25. I'm just going to leave it there. LOL

Maybe I missed it last time I logged in (this has been known to happen).  In any case, at a 14 handicap, if you're about at that level in all aspects, I'd suggest comparing to 10 or 15.   You can also compare to different levels when examining different aspects of your game.

I set up the strokes gained for a HC lower than mine but not scratch. That’s where is want to be.

I dont have a shot scope I use a different app/watch to track my game but it also had adjustable handicap ranges for comparing.

I usually compare myself to scratch, which is the next lowest benchmark relative to my current handicap level. But like others have mentioned, if I have a particularly good or bad round or couple of rounds I will occasionally look at my performance against a 5hcp or against a pro to see where I fit vs those skill levels too.

I don't carry an official HC but my goal the last couple of years has been to get to consistently shoot in the 90's so I leave it at 20 HC.

I set mine to 10 since I'm at 14 right now, trending downward. Meeting with the instructor tonight!!! Finally on to the driver.

I'm at 12 now and set it to 9 bc I want to get to single digits.

The way I'm using it is that I look at the SG to see what my biggest weakness is.  Then focus on that until I'm +1 SG compared to a 9HC (over 5 consecutive rounds -- roughly a month).  Then move on to my next biggest weakness.

Earlier this year it was driving.  Since I started this in April (and with the help of evolvr) I've gone from -3.5 (Jan-Mar) to -0.5 (last 5).  If I could exclude a bad round at Bethpage (I cannot cheat myself like that), I'd be at +0.7.  So hopefully I'll get there soon.

    • Day 38 (18 Dec 25) - got out in the backyard with grandson this afternoon.  We got into a little game of pitching the ball from about 25yds to a target point just off the asphalt lane behind the backyard.  Goal - just clear it with a quick hop and stop.  Focused on using the wedge swing motion I was talking with the course pro yesterday….smooth and thru just bruising the grass.  In addition to a concentrated focus on technique, it also called for a quiet mind locked in on target point.  Rehearsed this with both the 50° and 55° wedges.
    • I listened to the Shaun Webb one about the swing coach app. Sounds like a great thing and will (hopefully) be very useful for me. I do think the hosts are underestimating where AI could be in a few years. Right now it's just regurgitating stuff that it has been told or it has scrubbed from somewhere else and a human guiding things will be quite a lot more helpful than just the AI, but it's going to keep developing and it will reach the stage where it's figuring this stuff out on its own. Time will come when it will have you do a TPI style screen and take various height/arm length/leg length etc. measurements, have you tell it some history and your time constraints and goals and what not and it will watch a video of your swing face on and DTL and it will know exactly what you need to work on.
    • I found it entertaining, but the announcing was lousy.  How did the measuring on the final shot start with Rory being closer and being told he won, and then with no explanation it turns out Scottie won?  Weird.
    • Day 128 12-18 Worked on rotation and getting to lead side. Still working on the flow feeling while doing that. Recorded swings.
    • IMO-the only thing entertaining was the relay race. Everything else was excruciatingly boring...or just  stupid, like the 14-club thing. Watching guys blade wedges into the water over and over is not at all interesting.
