What Online Tips Have Actually Worked for You?

We all need to be careful of relying on the internet to help us improve our game. Especially with swing tips. Having said that there are a few things I have read that have helped my game a lot.  I mostly concentrate on strategy tips. The best have been:

1) Do not aim for the pin unless you are close to the green. Aim for the center of the green or away from trouble. This seems like common sense now, but for a long time I was trying for the low percentage "hero" shots and losing strokes because of it. 

2) take an extra club.  Most shots from mid to high handicappers are short.  I didn't even realize this until I started paying attention.  Now I mostly hit for the back of the green and have gained a couple strokes because of it. 

There are a few more that have really helped me.  There could be a whole other thread about what tips to stay away from but I would love to hear some other peoples online tips that have really helped their game.

@Arizona this year I focused on aim and distance to the center of the green as well. I think this strategy goes back to at least Jack Nicklaus or Harvey Pennick. But it really  increased my success on approach shots and putting.

On a similar note, when I’m putting before playing I’m only focused on pace and distance. I don’t try to out the ball into holes. I’m just trying to get a sense of the speed of the greens.

The types of tips that I'm typically looking out for online are where in working with my coach he wants me to change something and if the drill or thought that he has given me isn't working then I'll see if I can find other tips/drills etc. that will help fix that specific thing. I'm not typically looking for tips out of the blue. Just alternatives for how to handle a known fault. AMG videos are pretty good for that sort of thing.

“Feel ain’t real” is something @iacas has taught a lot of us. Without video or something like GEARS to look at your swing, you don’t really know what your swing issues really are. Identifying the most important piece to correct is critical in improving your swing. Then learning how to practice and what to focus on is next. 

Here’s and excellent thread on how to practice.

And lastly, be patient. Some changes take a long time.

This is an excellent read.  I used to have a slice I could not get rid of.  I spent a whole season playing with a slow half swing worrying about hitting it straight instead of far and after that never had a bad problem with a slice again. I'm a believer. Thanks for posting this.

If you are interested in video lessons, check out Evolvr. It inexpensive compared to in person lessons and you go at your own pace. You can send in videos of anything from putting, sand shot, chips etc to full swing.

The one thing I have learnt online is that you can actually use modern day phones because of their good cameras to film your golf game.  I have yet to do it, but have procured a tripod and have decent older iPhones that I can get more than one angle of my swing

Is not about your best shots, is about how bad are your bad shots. 
Instead of working in a swing that make you hit the ball flush and straight from time to time, work on a swing that when you miss, the miss is totally acceptable and in play.

Changed from my wild, long, good looking draw to my boring predictable short fade. 
Less beautiful shots but also less bogeys. I play for score so is a no brainier.
