How Many Courses Have You Played?

Recommended Posts

One of my stupid goals in life is to play golf in all 50 states. I am unlikely to reach that goal, but iI have kept a list of states where I have played. Some states I have played multiple courses, other states I played just a single round on one course. I don't remember all of them, so it's tough to count how many courses I have played.

195 courses

Arizona, California, Hawaii, Louisiana, Mississippi, Nevada, Nevada, New Mexico, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas (vast majority), Utah, West Virginia, Turks & Caicos, Paradise Island (Bahamas), & Puerto Rico

I usually buy a logo ball and display it. Maybe a hat or shirt, just kind of depends what they have in the pro shop.

I have 11 cases which hold 100 balls each. My wife insists they have glass doors so she does not have to dust them. The balls are in the order I played the course for the first time. Shown are cases #9, 10 & 11.

Wow! And I have only played 200 rounds in my 46 year old life so far. I guess we'll see what the future brings 🙂

So far for me:

  • Norway: 23
  • Sweden: 3
  • Denmark: 2
  • Spain: 5
  • Scotland: 1
  • Ireland: 1
  • Egypt: 1

Going to England next weekend and will add 2 courses to my CV there 🙂

In the bag: Callaway Mavrik SZ 10,5 driver (X stiff), Cobra King 4 wood (Stiff, 2006 model), Callaway Mavrik irons 4 - P+A (stiff), Cobra King Pur wedges 52, 56 and 60 (stiff) and Odessey white steel putter.  Very happy with the set and the gapping.

Some amazing numbers here - now I need to think!  I've only ever played in England, but let's see:

  • Alton (first ever round)
  • Meon Valley (valley)
  • Meon Valley (championship)
  • Corhampton (my club)
  • Portsmouth Great Salterns
  • Portsmouth
  • Rowlands Castle
  • Hayling Island (9 hole)
  • South Winchester
  • Ampfield
  • Fingle Glen
  • Waterbridge
  • Kington (highest golf course in England!)
  • The Vale
  • Paultons
  • Wellow
  • Swanmore

So 17 so far!  I might add increasing that number to my yearly goals!

I have played 646 courses.  My father played 2101 all documented with all scorecards.

You must travel a lot... what is the end prize?  I have played about 150 courses and I feel that is too many.  I have finally settled down and play about 6 different nearby courses, and the occasional resort course.

JPT, what are some of the "Bucket List" courses in your collection?

End prize?  I never looked at it that way...just enjoyed the ride.

I've traveled a lot over the years. Many courses played were when I attended work meetings out of state.  The last several years I go on a guy's golf trip. And I play in a league that plays in several cities. There's also a ton of courses within an hour of where I live, and most are very reasonably priced.

No end prize, just enjoying all golf has to offer.  Something my dad and I enjoyed together!

TPC Sawgrass, Ballybunion, Lahinch, European Club, Old Head, PGA West, Old Tabby Golf Links, Bellerive CC, Warwick Hills, Tobacco Road, Caledonia, Pinehurst #2, SentryWorld, St Louis CC...

Are you a St. Louis boy?  I grew up there and played those courses.  Well, only played the first hole at Bellerive until they threw me off the course.

I will be in Norway next month but  I will not have a chance to play golf.  We are driving from Bergen to Alesund with stops along the way at Flam and Briksdalsbre.  Any suggestions for "must see" sites?  and restaurants?

I'm afraid you can't miss some must see sites on that trip 😉. I would take the detour around "Trollstigen" on my way to Ålesund and make sure to see a bit of Jostedalsbreen though. You will see plenty of fjords and beautifull landscapes along the road. In Flåm you should try out Ægir brewery and pub with great local food and fantastic local bears, should be a very nice experience (might want to book a table here though). Ålesund is also a very nice town, with a lot of nice places to eat and drink on both sides of "Ålesundet"

Update. I now have logo balls from 1108 courses I have played in all 50 states, and 26 countries. The last one was in June when I played in Iceland. Absolutely beautiful. I would like to go back and play other courses.

    • I honestly believe if they play longer tees by 300-400 yards, closer to or over 7,000 yards, more rough, tougher greens, women's golf will become much more gripping.  BTW, if it weren't for Scottie killing it right now, men's golf isn't exactly compelling.
    • Day 542, April 26, 2024 A lesson no-show, no-called (he had the wrong time even though the last text was confirming the time… 😛), so I used 45 minutes or so of that time to get some good work in.
    • Yeah, that. It stands out… because it's so rare. And interest in Caitlin Clark will likely result in a very small bump to the WNBA or something… and then it will go back down to very low viewership numbers. Like it's always had. A small portion, yep. It doesn't help that she lost, either. Girls often don't even want to watch women playing sports. My daughter golfs… I watch more LPGA Tour golf than she does, and it's not even close. I watch more LPGA Tour golf than PGA Tour golf, even. She watches very little of either. It's just the way it is. Yes, it's a bit of a vicious cycle, but… how do you break it? If you invest a ton of money into broadcasting an LPGA Tour event, the same coverage you'd spend on a men's event… you'll lose a ton of money. It'd take decades to build up the interest. Even with interest in the PGA Tour declining.
    • Oh yea, now I remember reading about you on TMZ!
