whenever i play during the week, i usually play by myself. usually go out at 7-730 and see how many holes I can get in.

one thing you have to watch about playing alone is that often you will get to playing too fast, especially around the greens and not stick to your preshot routine.

I probably play solo 10-20%, mostly foursome weekend golf. During the week I can usually find 1 or 2 friends to get in an afternoon round. When playing solo I either treat it as a practice or scoring round. Meaning I will either hit extra shots, putts, chips, ect..., or I will work on my mental approach and play the ball down. The later heps me think a little better when playing. For example if I am "practicing" and hitting extra balls I may try to reach par 5's in two or hit the driver on a super tight driving hole when a long iron or 4 wood would be fine. But this kind of "practice" usually doesn't help my game, as a 12 handicap the risk most times isn't worth the reward. If the pace of play is slow I will usually just hit extra shots or just slow my pace down, rarely in a hurry to get off the course.

I got the pleasure of walking the first four holes solo three days ago, and I went bogey-par-par-par. And I'm a 31.5 h'cap. Finished with a 97, which is still a personal best.

Wish I could play solo all the time.

The majority of the time I go to the course, solo. The beauty about fall and early spring NYC golf is that no one is on the course. During the summer, it's a different story. So, if I can't play during the week, I try and not play on weekends. (I've played two rounds on the weekends, this year)

I end up playing a lot by myself. I do not know that many people in my area that play golf. I grew up playing by myself a lot and it does not bother me that much. Now, I would like to have some people to play with every now and again. I think it is fun to play with a group. I like to play by myself some to and that makes it easier to work on my game a little.

I play with myself a good 3 to 4 times per week, just working on my game at my local course. If I have a good round going through 3 or 4 holes, I'll take it seriously...if not I'll just use it as a "practice" round and hit different shots off the tee, try working the ball (draws, fades, etc.) and just mess around with flop shots.

Usually I have to wait 5 minutes on every shot so I am always thinking of new stuff I can practice.

I used to HATE playing by myself but I find it quite relaxing at times now

I love playing alone, I try to get in 9 holes alone at least once a week before work and play twlight once or twice a week after work.

That being said, twosomes are probably my favorite way to play. I have a fairly flexible work schedule so I'll often try to pressure one friend or another into skipping work and coming out with me to play. Does that make me a bad person?

I hate to golf alone for the simple fact that I'm sure the first time I'll do I'll hit an ace....twice, and no one will see it.

The exact reason I will only play alone as a last resort. Luckily my club isnt big on letting singles go out alone so I will always try to pair up with someone. It was bad enough getting my first birdie when I played alone - I dont want it to happen for a bigger event. (first time I break 100, blah blah blah)

Call it what you will, but playing with others is a competition and it won't be fun until I am within striking distance of my playing partners.

Four years learning mechanics and now tempo appears to be the last barrier to consistency. Or is it just the next layer of the onion ?

Stay tuned. Hope is the last to die.

The best thing about golf is the solitary nature of it. Yes you can play with others but you don't need 10 other "players" to make a game. Just book your tee time, grab your clubs and off you go.

I haven't played a round solo before. Most of that is that I was so bad and didn't want to be paired with a bunch of low handicap guys and make a fool of myself. Now that my game is at least respectable I wouldn't mind being paired with strangers and meeting new people. I'll definitely try and play solo now.

Absolutely! Its a great way to work on your game. Its also a great way to relax. I play once a week with some friends, 3 or 4 times a week solo. I really like both.

I really wish I could play that often. How do you guys afford to play that much?

Well, I have a course across the street, not one I consider great though. Costs me 32 to play nine on weeknights after work, 20 to walk it. That would add up real fast. An individual membership there is about 1250. But it's jnot nice enough for me to want to play there every time.

Golf is actually cheaper for me then my main hobby, pool. I drink more when I play pool, I usually eat something at the bar also. Then there is the cab ride home if someone starts ordering rounds of shots, getting my truck the next day, table time, league fees.......

I have 3 courses nearby that I can play twilight on for $18 with a cart, that's a cheap few hours even if I do it several times a week.

    • Are free fittings a common thing? I was kind of under the assumption that there was usually a cost associated with them, unless you actually purchased their clubs or something.  What's the best way to find free ones?
    • I'd find a free fitting, take your clubs, and see what you can see. For example, we have a PXG fitter come to our academy every Tuesday, and he's great about sharing info about why he's having you hit a certain shaft or clubhead or something. And… if you don't see much of a change, skip it.
    • Day 1 (3 Apr 25) - Restarting the routine after a 4 day quick trip.  Got back in the groove today for some swings of the 6i and driver into the net -‘to just warm the muscles a little.  Wrapped up the day with grandson hitting 20-25 yd pitches in the backyard.  Love watching his swing and also his concept of course management, to hear him say he left himself in a good position to finish (good words from a soon to be 9 yr old)….
    • Day 185 - 2025-04-03 Had a good 2.5 hour session at Golf Evolution. Kinda glad it was still wet and windy out today as I wouldn't have gotten such a good session in if I played. Got up to 93 MPH (with a pause) on my 6I and 130 MPH ball speed (on a different slightly slower hit, a bit more de-lofted than I'll want eventually).
    • I'm highly probable for the entire weekend, thanks for doing the hard work to set it up.  I can't wait for more details.
