Ours is $350 per month for unlimited golf for me and the wife. We get great value from it, played this morning and are playing again tomorrow morning which will cover our monthly fees, after tomorrow everything else we play in August is effectively free. We don't pay any additional fees for cart or range balls and lessons from the pro are $15 per half hour.

Never joined a club, never will. I work part time at the course I play most often, but I get out about once or twice a month to play other courses. No clubs in this area that are as cheap as what many of you guys seem to pay. I don't think I could find a private club for under $2000 a year, and most are much higher. And I don't tend to care much for most of the country club types I've met anyway, so I'm happier and more at home just sticking to public courses.

I'm at about 60 rounds played this year, and the season is just past half over. I'll easily top 100 rounds.

I thought it may be interesting to see the differences between location and membership cost.

Here's some basic info:

Private clubs
Club 1.
8000 initiation
250 - 450 a month depending on age - about 700 a year in other costs

Club 2
1000 - 12000 initiation (depending on age and if you want equity)
250 - 450 a month depending on age and equity/non equity - about 300 a year in other costs

Both clubs have monthly spending minimums of at least 50, plus range fees, cart fees, and other fees.

Both are private and have less than 400 golf members. Neither are ever too busy (except maybe saturday morning) to walk on.

So how does this compare? Do the clubs near you cost more/less? Do they have a public website with pricing posted?

"take a couple weeks off - then quit for good"

- X-460 Tour 10.5 Fujikura Stiff
- War Bird 15deg 3 Wood
- MX-23 Irons
- Vokey 52 + 55deg wedges
- 900 60deg Low Bounce - Studio Design 1.5 - Pro V1x - SG4Sun Mountain Carry and Great Divider Cart Bags.

My course costs $575 a year. As much as you can golf. It's a public course, but it's pretty awesome. I would never pay thousands a year for a membership somewhere when I can play a course like this for such a reasonable price.

www.venangovalley.com

850$/yr membership
67$/yr Club storage
120$/yr Unlimited balls for the range.
245$ for 20 rounds with a cart. (For the second round of 2 round days)

In the Ogio Kingpin bag:

Titleist 913 D2 9.5* w/ UST Mamiya ATTAS 3 80 w/ Harrison Shotmaker & Billy Bobs afternarket Hosel Adaptor (get this if you don't have it for your 913)
Wilson Staff Ci-11 4-GW (4I is out of the bag for a hybrid, PW and up were replaced by Edel Wedges)
TaylorMade RBZ 5 & 3 Fairway Woods

Cobra Baffler T-Rail 3 & 4 Hybrids

Edel Forged 48, 52, 56, 60, and 64* wedges (different wedges for different courses)

Seemore Si-4 Black Nickel Putter

I pay £125 which is $189 but i am 16 so i fall into the 16-18 catagory. what's better still is that last year, i paid £47 for a half year ($71)
What I Play:
Wilson Mini Stand Bag | PING G10, 10.5°, Proforce V2 HL S | PING G5, 15°, 18°, Aldila NV 75 S | PING G5, 19°, Aldila VS Proto By You 80 S
Mizuno MX200 4-PW S | Ping Tour W 50/12 X | Ping Tour W 58/TS X | A selection of putters, all 35.5 inches.

For some reason I've never viewed membership as being a fee payed to a public course. That's more like a "pass". Membership to me is a family membership to a club that has dining, golf, possibly tennis and a pool.

I can get a pass at my local course for about 1000. It's a great deal, but it's not the same as a membership.

$900 initiation (paid $100 as I live out there)
$120/mo for golf
$20/mo for range plan

There's a pool and other things, but I don't use it.

$2100 for Whispering Woods, or $2850 for a household. I do a little work for them and when the range is built I'll get free balls.

Lake View is around $3000/year (intermediate membership) for just me, including the $600 you have to pay in dining. Range is included here.

Right now ours is 1000/yr including cart. Don't know what it will be after new owners take over.

Other choice is 1680/yr including cart. It is a country club and a little more upscale, but the course is no where near the course we play on now.

I'm 31, so I get a Jr. membership. $500 initiation (special)

$250/month full access to club (pool/workout/lockers/tennis) [$350 non jr.]
$240/year range
$17.50/round single w/ cart (free walking)

This is about average for any of the 5 or so clubs in our area...

Wow the clubs near us are expense. The local public coars near me is $2400 for a resident and you can only golf six months out of the year.

Too many good options down here to even consider a private club.

As a comparison though, the costs to which you refer are towards the lower end of what I'd pay down here for a club with a decent, not great course and facilities. Good course and facilities will start at $20k initiation and $500/month dues and go up from there. It wouldn't surprise me to see some discounting in the near term though.....

We have one CC here locally that has a 12k initiation and something like 500/month dues as well. The course is nothing special but the clubhouse is HUGE!!! They have all the normal CC stuff as well.
