I also never took a lesson, but can't hit the ball like Bubba. Amazing natural athlete, great golfer, and great person. It's entertaining to watch him murder the ball off the tee as well. =)

I was watching some of his videos on YouTube and an earlier poster suggested. He shot a 62 when he was 12....A 62 WHEN HE WAS 12!!!!

Driver: VRS 9.5 degrees

Fairway Wood: 13 degrees
Hybrid: A3 19 degrees

Irons: i20's  Yellow dot

Wedges: Vokey's 52, 56 & 60

Putter: 2 ball

Ball: Penta; ProV

He played my home course in college and won. He was awarded the trophy and said something very negative and tossed the trophy in a trash can and said he'd never be back. Can't pull for him because of that!!!

well, if we don't know what he said or why, then we can't exactly pass judgement. so until you've demonstrated otherwise, my view of young mr. watson will remain untarnished.

in all fairness, i grew up playing this quasi-links course from time to time where if you shot over 75 that was a crappy day. it was all hard ground bump and run. never did manage to shoot a 62, though.

tiger showed us at the open championship that distance doesnt matter at all. your driver is not a scoring weapon.

Really? I was under the seemingly misguided impression that your drive = 1 shot....just like a putt or an iron shot.

The litmus test for me: I would MUCH rather play my ball 30 yards further forward in semi rough, than back on the fairway.

No. Distance means very little.

I guess his distance got him pretty far in the golf world eh? lol as well his natural ability of course, but you were very skeptical and the years have proven you wrong haha, is maverick still around to gloat?

Bug,

What course, and event was that? As someone who knows Bubba personally, went to college with him, and has played countless rounds with him.....I find this 100% UNBELIEVABLE!!! Bubba, is one the finest individuals I have ever met. I am unsure where you have gotten your information from??? Bubba is as good as they come, we dad's would do good to have our sons grow up to be as good as Bubba. ...and before any of you bring up the "outburst" at Elk, that was said to his caddy and picked up with a ultra-sensitive mic. That was much different that doing it in a trophy presentation.

It would be hard to root against a guy like Bubba. I hope he gets it done.

But the dude's short game is severly underestimated.. He hit some amazing short game shots out there.

How the hell does he hit the ball and have his right foot move back in the finish? Thats nuts.. This guys a monster..

It's too bad he couldn't pull it off today. I was definitely rooting for him after DJ was out of the picture.

It would have been really important for Bubba for that one that went into the drink.

I just wish they could tone them down a bit at times. I think that is where you need a long standing caddie to tell you to lay it up to 350 yards off the tee so it isn't in the rough stuff. lol

Just wondering what you guys think, bubba,s drive was only 278 yards on 18, and he ended up 40 yards shot for his second, anyone think he may have got the wrong yardage? because after he hit the drive he knew he hit it poor but after his approach he was eyeing it up and down, I just thought he was probably never that far back the 6 or so rounds he played during the week, what do you think? it didnt look like he hit it fat either

    • Imma throw a dart in the dark as no one can tell what is happening once every fourth iron shot per your OP. This might sound counterintuitive but if ball position is too far back in the stance folks are known to throw down clubhead steeply. Could be happening. And yes, @billchaois not wrong; clubhead tends to bottom out wherever your pressure is. So slide forward (not sway), then hit.
    • Day 300 (!): did a stack session.
    • Day 24: Missed my weekly round due to a last minute little league makeup game this morning. Managed to get in some backswing rehearsals while grilling sausages for dinner, and then putted around the office/laundry room after dinner.
    • but I don't understand how that's possible you still want your head to stay back you don't want the upper body coming forward and plus I've tried feeling that and it made my fat shots worse and I then tend to pull and sky all my shots especially with driver because I get in front of it dont need force plates to see i finish on my left side
