Started golfing 2 months ago and I finally got my first birdie! Been wondering when I was going to get it.. I've come close before but just couldn't putt it in! What a great feeling! Now I just have to do that 3-4 times per round and par the rest of the holes and i'm good!

Mine was a par 4 as well.. First shot with the driver wasn't so good it went to the rough, 2nd shot was with my 5 iron about 150 yards out and go it about 6 foot from the hole, from there 1 putted.. Seems so simple.. Why can't I just do that every dang hole!

Mine was on a dogleg left par 5 over that went around a pond. Almost a 90* turn dogleg. My buddy looks at me and said, I bet you can't hit it over the water. So I lined up and tried it. I did carry the water (barely) and ended up in the rough near the green. Chipped onto the green and then 2 putted.

I think I had been playing 5 months at that time.

Congratulations! Not sure exactly how long I had been playing......prob less than a year, but it was over 40 years ago and I still remember it. Little muni course in Racine Wisconsin. Number 9....a short par 3. Prob 120 yds or so. Rolled it onto the front of the green and sunk a 40 ft + putt. That thing went in like a rabbit going down a hole! Fun stuff!

It took me about 6 months (not including pitch and putt haha), so that is pretty impressive.  My brother just started and golf about 120 ... so you wouldn't expect him to have one under his belt, but on a par 4, he had a tap-in  birdie on maybe his 10th round ever.

Congrats again.

Mine was in my first year of golf (not exactly sure on the time, maybe 3 months)  I chipped one in from about 25 yards out.  I then proceeded to run around the green screaming haha.

I played off and on for a couple years and then seriously for maybe a year before I got one. I had no natural golf talent, so I had very few chances at birdie to begin with, let alone ability to capitalize on it. It was a short par 4. Hit a good, long drive, then a PW to about 12 feet, then made the put.

Got my first one quite luckily about 2 months into playing my first year.     It was on "Hagen's Folly" at DWG - a par 3 hole with dramatically elevated green - if you miss the green might as well be in water - can't hack your way up the side of the mountain in the deep fescue grass.     Story goes, Hagen was winning the annual PA state tournament as usual & pulled an 8 on this very hole and lost.     So, my first time on this course, I hit the tee shot thin & ran it about 25 ft past the hole (at least made the green so I was elated).     Actually made the putt ... so it was a memorable first birdie ... fondly remember it as the day I beat Hagen (btw - he still holds the course record - pro has tied it several times, but never beat it ... it truly amazes me what the legends were able to accomplish with the old hickory shafted rudimentary clubs).

Practice makes perfect! When I first started 2 months ago I was so obsessed in hitting the "long ball" all I did was hit drivers and nothing else.. Then I played my first round of golf and noticed I only used my driver like 20% of the time and the rest were my irons and short game.. That's when I started putting in work on the practice greens putting and chipping.. Helped my game improve a lot..

It took me longer than I thought.   It was probably the 5th or 6th round that I played.  I was at Rammler Golf Club in Sterling Heights MI.  It was on the 11th hole, a 161 yard par 3.  I Hit the green and had probably a 15 foot put that wasn't flat.  I was shocked that I made it.

In my bag:

Fairway Wood - Diablo Octane 15*
Hybrid -  Edge 21*
Irons - X20's 4I - 9I

    • Day 132: 5/7/24 Full Speed Spectrum Training session 8/24. 7th training program overall.    Another slow session but 4 mph faster than my last session, which was my slowest ever. Going to the doctor on Friday to check on pulled neck muscle.
    • Day 26: Did full swing practice after work. First 15 balls were working on top of the backswing feel, and then tried to incorporate transition feel into the next 15 balls. A's, although this will be my last season of being a fan as they leave for Las Vegas (by way of Sacramento for a few seasons). Hard to see myself rooting for the Giants, but if that's the only MLB in the Bay Area, I guess I might get on board.
    • My two cents? Don't. As a beginner that's interested in learning about the golf swing, you'll find yourself consuming a lot of information, most of which isn't even relevant to your own swing. You need to learn you can't think your way to a good golf swing. Focus on the one thing that you're working on and doing that on every swing, come what may. And remember, mishits happen.
    • Day 6 (7 May 24) - More work in the backyard focused on tempo in addition to setup.  Worked with 6 and 7 irons hitting hard foam balls - used the old MacGregor irons to mix it up a little.
    • No! lol. But they have to be in the right sequence to play mid-handicap golf or little better. Mostly. And even in that there is range/margin for error in the motions and positions that most normal humans can handle. It helps if you have a decent idea of how a golf club moves around the body like you would any other equipment sports (baseball and hockey might be the closest) After all, fairways are 40 yards wide. Don't overthink it. Be diligent in getting basics right. I will concede that it is harder than it sounds but it certainly is not exact angle/exact position/exact degree of bend/exact speed/exact facial expression, etc, every.... single.... time or the result is horrible death.
