Have been thinking it might be fun to have a 3 clubs or less game with the "crew". At least for a quick 9 after work. Has anyone ever done this?

I'm thinking I'd go with my 6, GW and putter... Heck, I'd probably score better than I do with a full bag. :8)

Closest I got was a putter plus 3 irons. Took a driver, 5 hybrid and an 8 iron. Good fun but had a terrible round.

In my bag (Motocaddy Light)

Taylormade Burner driver, Taylormade 4 wood, 3 x Ping Karsten Hybrids, 6-SW Ping Karsten irons with reg flex graphite shafts. Odyssey putter, 20 Bridgestone e6 balls, 2 water balls for the 5th hole, loads of tees, 2 golf gloves, a couple of hand warmers, cleaning towel, 5 ball markers, 2 pitch mark repairers, some aspirin, 3 hats, set of waterproofs, an umbrella, a pair of gaiters, 2 pairs of glasses. Christ, it's amazing I can pick the bloody thing up !!

Played 9 holes from lady´s tee against my mom with my 7 iron. I think i made 4..5 over par and won (really bad son).

1st i learn that I´m really bad on half shots, 160 carry it´s my 7iron and from 100-140 yards didn´t hit any GIR. 2nd it is really important to miss green on the side where you can chip easily with that 7 iron. If not every GIR miss on the wrong side it´s a really easy double bogey.

Never a three club tournament, but have played four club several times It is fun to be able to adjust to a distance that you would usually use say a PW but you only have an 8 iron to do it. The last time I played I used a 4 wood 5 iron, 8 iron and a gap wedge. Used the 4 wood and the gap wedge to putt with. Most everyone else used a putter.

I have never done it, but I would use a 5w (or maybe a 4h depending on the course), a 6 or 7 iron and a wedge (maybe even a sand wedge if there are lots of greenside bunkers). No need for a putter: use the wood or hybrid or blade the wedge.

Yes, it's fun.  We have a 3 club night during league.

I like carrying a 3i, 8i, and a AW, based on the host course length.  The loft of the 3i also makes a nice putter substitution for me.

We also do a 3 club night in our 9 hole league. 4hi, 7i & putter for me. It's a lot of fun and makes you think more about your shots.
