this all depends on a few factors...
how much money are you willing to drop for a round...
how far are you willing to drive...

what do you consider qualities on "best" courses?
difficulty of play...
ammenities...
course conditions...
staff...

if money were no object... time were not a factor... travel not an inconvenience... then cali... specifically so cal is jam packed with tons of courses from low rent to high end... so it all depends on what you are looking for

this all depends on a few factors...

Well Those things are not really a big factor im mostly intrested in a course were i could go out and have fun and relax

ummm not to be insulting or anything... but since you arent willing to get into specifics... you can have fun and relax at pretty much any golf course you go to

Why would that be insulting isnt that what why most people play the sport at least thats why i do and i do have fun and every golf course i play at but i have not been to a great deal of courses and i was wondering which ones people on this fourm like in the area

well... have you scoped out the local courses in your area? if you dont mind the travel... san diego has a great muni called torrey pines... there are tons in LA... palm springs... north of LA... thats why i was asking what you are looking for... cuz there are endless amounts of courses in socal... i was just trying to narrow it down a bit by asking questions

Flopdarock is right...it's very difficult to recommend a course if you don't list any criteria.
However, greenskeeper.org is a great site that has thousands of reviews of SoCal courses so check that out and see if anything looks interesting to you.

Hey TubbyRob,
They are right that there are a lot of great courses in SoCal. I play mostly in the Northern L.A. County area. My favorite public courses are:
Simi Hills - good price and well kept
Olivas Links - just redone and now is a links type course
Soule Park - in Ojai is quite a drive though
Knollwood - $37.50 with a cart - tough track with tough greens but fun - cute cart girls too!
Elkins Ranch - it is a tight course but I really have fun there - best burgers in town
Not too familiar with Huntington area though

There's cute cart girls at Knollwood now? I gotta get over there.

The girls are only there on weekends. I can't remember the last time I was there on a weekend. Back when I played there Mondays, I would barely run into anyone.

If anyone is in northern california, for public courses, try hiddenbrooke they play lpga here( http://www.hiddenbrookegolf.com/layo...=176&page;=3434 ) or stonetree ( http://www.stonetreegolf.com/sites/c...550&page;=28280 ) for a real nice course, or for a great value try blue rock springs ( http://www.bluerockspringsgolf.com/c...3420&RN;=655361 ), great priced and very nice condition, also has 36 holes.

If you get a chance ( i have been lucky enough),try either of these courses. http://www.sonomagolfclub.com/

And the most beautiful course in northern california...period.

I've got to agree with Kingofcars08,Hiddenbrooke is a class course for $55 during the week,if this course was closer to San Francisco it would cost at least $140 a round. Its a great challenge and in pristine condition.Stonetree is
another top class course, its a challenge and I've got bitten once or twice there but runs about $85 during the week while $120 weekends, always in pristine condition.Another course i play close to stonetree is Eagle vines, great course and a great challenge. It runs at $45 weekdays and $85 weekends. These courses are similar to what pro's would play.

Beaumont, CA - Oak Valley Golf Club and across the street East Valley Golf Club (36 holes).

That's right next door to me but I haven't played there yet because I usually play during the week which means close to the office.

I just got back from playing Steele Canyon outside of San Diego - a great course - challenging for great players and fun for hackers too. I did a full 18 hole video review of the course. Check it out and let me know what you think.
