The Worst habit one of your regular golf buddies has

we don't play for money but there is on in our group who doesn't keep an honest score, picking up putts, etc. he tends to shoot in the 80's but my guess is he would typically shoot in the 90's if he was honest. unfortunately, he is proud of his score at the end of the round, somehow he must rationalize his cheating during the round or forgets it by the 18th.

I have a friend like this. He always seems to brag abou how good he is when in reality hes around an 11 handicap. Sometimes he will then get pissed off at other people who we are playing with when they hit a bad shot. He will also get jealous after i hit a good shot. It pisses me off sometimes.

lol my normal golf buddy played with some guys who he knew were going to be better than him on a higher end course, than he is used to. I couldn't make it, but he was nervous, he was going to embarass himself. he's never broken 100, so if his partners shoot 75 then it might be a bit embarrassing. Anyway he calls me on the way home all excited he shot a 94, and that next week he want to shoot in the 80's. I couldn't believe he shot a 94, but had no reason not to trust him. maybe everything just clicked for him, and he had a helluva round. So he brought me the score card a minute agao and I was checking out the holes, yardages, doglegs etc. Then I added his first 9 in my head and thought well he must have had a really good back 9 to hit a 94. yeah well I had to be the bearer of bad news. I told him he needs to check his addition again. more like 103, he said someone else added the scores that day. You should have seen the look on his face, he was pretty bummed. So as far as shooting in the 80's next week. I told him to shoot 1-2 strokes better than his last game would be just fine.

I can't think of any bad habits my golf buddies have. They are a great lot of folks who are immensely considerate. Ahh....that may be it....they are too considerate. I'd like to hear them let fly with a few expletives on occasion and stew for a hole or two....maybe drop a club in frustration once in a while....yes, it annoys me they don't. They simply keep making pars and birdies and politely say, "I believe it's your turn...you are away".

And I just thought that this was a great thread. It actually taught someone something. A friend I used to play with would talk to me non-stop during the round. Even while I was putting he would talk. The first few times I would say something, then I stopped when I realised he couldn't stop. His bad habit actually helped me in the long run. I am not as distracted by little noises or other people talking, because of him.

I have a good buddy.....plays off of about a 15 hcp. If he happens to hit 2 or 3 good shots in a row, he'll begin giving unsolicited swing advice to anyone within earshot.

This is the absolute worst. I have a family member who will shave probably 6-10 strokes in 18 holes off their score. I have called him many many times on it. Some times I let it go because his round is rough. But when he puts a descent 9 together and I am struggling, he becomes a know all tell all and won't quit until I crush him again.

Funny stuff.....the worst is a cheater.....a guy i know with 10yrs golf experience and 10 hc sees I am closing the talent gap fast...i outdrive him80 yds -130 on 12 holes a round and have begun to beat him in match play....BUT i blow a couple holes and 99 here we come.

recently I have caught him clearly hitting a pond or rolling into a hazard,,, and he says I swear its right here 90 yds away fromm hazard .....and wont take a lost ball penalty either...blames it on course conditions....now i watch him on every stroke....gee last round we were only 8 strokes apart....i still had a 25 over but he was 17 over...LOL beat him in match play tooo...

My playing partner in the Winter League always has 2 or 3 practice swings, and has an official handicap of 47 but he can shoot 30 easily (our club only lets people to hand in handicap cards if played in a competition so he is having a tough time gettin it lowered.) However, when he takes his shot after his practice swings, it's nothing like his practice swings! i tell him what he is doing often but he says they are the same...

my buddy is not that good of a golfer, really at all..... so, chasing his balls all over the course in the cart gets to be old after a little bit....

I try to get him to either get his swing looked at by a professional or just to start trying different things w/ his swing on his own..... to which he ignores, and continues to struggle....

He still insists on being in Best ball tourney's w/ me and he emberasses himself every time.... to the point where I have to fight myself from laughing w/ my other partners when he mis-hits a drive 25 yards and it doesn't get 10 feet off the ground....

I just think to myself - Why would you willingly want to be in a tournament w/ a bunch of strangers watching, and your terrible? I mean, it can't be any fun....

a buddy of mine i play with CONSTANTLY tells people who are hooked up with us to "hit another one" if they mess up. it drives me nuts. not everybody likes to hit another shot if they hit one fat (especially me), but he has no problem telling them to hit another ball.... he also likes to give TERRIBLE advice to players who are even worse than he is. i just keep my mouth shut most of the time
